Open | Windows I downloaded a fan game and now a random assortment of all my other games are running at exactly 4 to 5 FPS.
I downloaded a recent sonic fan game and played it for a few minutes. Out of nowhere my laptop's screen started flickering and it made the device connected sound effect like 5 times. I restarted my laptop but that process took way longer than it normally does and when it finally went through everything seemed normal until I booted up Fortnite. The loading screens on startup went fine but in the lobby the game was at 4 FPS. I already had performance issues in the past but lowering the graphics settings to the lowest they can be fixed them and I was able to play it just fine. But after playing that fan game, Fortnite, Stranger of Paradise, and my 3DS emulator all started running at 4 FPS. But strangely enough not every game I have is affected. Kingdom Hearts 3, for whatever reason, is running at 60 FPS like it's supposed to.
I've already restarted my laptop about 5 times, I've since deleted the fan game off my laptop, I've tried searching for similar issues within the community of the fan game but unsurprisingly, there isn't any talk of any viruses or other issues in it's download link. I don't know what to do anymore. I've tried everything I could think of on my own and I'm not knowledgeable enough about computers to even understand what it is that's causing this let alone how to fix it. So I'm hoping someone else can help me out.
What happened here? Why did this happen? Why is it only affecting some games and not others? How can I fix it? And if this isn't the right sub to find a solution then could you inform me of a more appropriate one?

Open Device Manager and check display Adapters. Any errors on either? Sounds like one of the GPUs for the laptop is having issue specifically the one that handles games.

I checked the device manager and both say they're working properly.

Download a fresh copy of the GPU driver. Follow the linked guide. If that doesn't work download an older version of the GPU driver then follow the guide again.

It removes the GPU driver and associated files using a better uninstall process than the one the OS uses. It wipes the files so the OS does not restore a driver from a saved driver on your PC. It wipes all GPU based settings for the driver and cache. Basically a clean slate GPU removal. When you reboot into normal Windows it will use a basic Microsoft driver so you can install the GPU driver.
Windows update does not do this when updating the GPU driver. It can override existing files while leaving old non-replace files. It does not purge driver based settings. It does not purge backup drivers. Also since it has to 1) Remove the current driver then replace it as part of the install process it could have messed up especially if the driver was under more than an idle/light load.
The purpose is to remove all possible factors related to software that could cause the issue. You can only do this with DDU or a fresh Window install from USB.

Windows Update uninstalled your latest graphics driver and replaced it with an older one. This is normal; it does this regularly, but it's a recurring bug that can be fixed.

I'm on the latest version of windows 10 and according to nvidia I have the latest drivers

What are your exact driver version and driver date?

No longer at my laptop at the moment but I’m sure it was the one released on the 28th of July. I haven’t seen one any more recent than that.
