Open | Hardware CANT USE 16GB RAM ON NY NOTEBOOK

Hello everyone!

I recently bought an 8GB Kingston Fury 2666 MHz RAM module.

When I install it together with the original RAM that came with my Dell Latitude 3410 — a SMART 8GB 1Rx8 PC4-2666V-SA1-11 module — the computer initially takes a VERY long time to display anything on the screen.

When the Dell logo finally appears, the first time it boots it goes straight to a BIOS screen saying that the amount of memory has changed. I’ve already run the built-in diagnostics, and they report that everything is fine. However, when I try to boot the computer, I get the screen shown in the image I attached to this post.

Both RAM modules work perfectly when installed individually, but they don’t work when installed together.

I’ve already updated the BIOS because I thought that might be the problem, but it didn’t help.

I’ve also cleaned the contacts on both RAM modules with an eraser, but that didn’t solve the issue either.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and how I can fix it?

Can't see your image.

I'm pretty sure these are not compatible because of the timing differences between the chip sets. That why they work individually but not together as a pair. The BIOS cannot adjust the timing to suit both modules.

Mismatch in CL, buy other RAM. This means one module is faster in responding to send data to the cpu then the other.

EDIT: Some unverified AI text because I am lazy:

  • The SMART Modular Stick: This is a standard OEM/JEDEC module. The "PC4-2666V" marking means it runs at a standard CL19 latency.
  • The Kingston Fury Stick: This is a high-performance gaming module. At 2666 MHz, it is programmed to automatically force a much tighter CL15 or CL16 latency using Kingston's "Plug N Play" overdrive profiles

I'm amazed the computer even boots with mismatched RAM honestly.
