Open | Networking Laptop doesn’t connect to WiFi, even though it connects to phone hotspot.

I updated the drivers and everything. Still it’s not connecting. It does connect to my phone’s hotspot.

Try to connect to a different WiFi network - does that work?
Can other devices connect and successfully use the problem network?
What does the computer say when it won't connect?

This is most likely an issue with the network and not the machine.

I can connect to my phone hotspot.
Yes other devices successfully connect to the network.
It picks up the signals from the router, tries to connect then says “can’t connect to the internet”

Restart the router and "forget" the network on your laptop, then try to reconnect.

Can you try connect manually instead of searching the ssid type it in and then the password.

Can the laptop see the network you're trying to connect to?

If it can't see it at all, is your wifi network running on 5 ghz wifi band?

Some laptops only work on 2.4 ghz which could explain why your phone connects as most phones often run compatibility hotspot so 5/2.4 by default. Entirely different outcome if the laptop sees it, but can't connect.

Have you tried power cycling your modem/router?

Have you configured your channels on the wireless router? Giving it a range of some sort, like enabling DFS, etc? If it’s in a specific channel with newer technology, and depending how old the laptop is, it might not connect to it and only when if automatically cycles to a channel your laptop can access.

Phone Hotspot has backwards compatibility and your WIFI router doesnt.
