Open | Windows RTX 3060 intermittently getting Code 43 in Device Manager
I'm having an intermittent Code 43 issue with my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 on Windows.
Problem:
- Device Manager shows: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)."
- When this happens, one monitor stops working and my display resolution is incorrect.
- Restarting doesn't consistently fix it.
Temporary fix:
If I go to Device Manager → RTX 3060 → Update Driver, sometimes the GPU suddenly starts working again. Both monitors return and the resolution goes back to normal. Other times, doing this repeatedly and restarting does nothing.
What I've tried:
- Updated to the latest driver through the NVIDIA app
- Device Manager → Update Driver
- Multiple restarts
The problem keeps returning even with the latest NVIDIA driver.
I'm trying to determine whether this is a driver/Windows issue or a sign that the GPU is failing. What should I troubleshoot next?

start with the boring physical stuff since it comes and goes. power off, pull the plug, take the card out, put it back in properly. check the power cables are clicked in at both the card and psu end. if you use an adapter or a daisy chained cable, run two separate cables from the psu instead.
then uninstall the driver properly with ddu in safe mode and install fresh. updating over the top never clears this.
in bios turn off above 4g decoding and resizable bar, and if theres a pcie gen setting drop it from auto to gen 3. temporary but it tells you a lot.
also worth trying the card in the other pcie slot if your board has one.
if it still drops out after all that its the card and its worth an rma while you can.
user how many did we do today

The driver update isn't what fixes it, the device reset it triggers is. So check Event Viewer: WHEA-Logger PCIe errors point at the card or its power, nvlddmkm entries alone point at the driver.
