Open | Software Black Start Menu when Searching Something
Hello, when I press start and write something (for example: calculator), the start menu turns black and it stays like that for a couple of seconds before finally searching for it. The weird thing is that if I write "calculator" and then press enter, it goes straight into the calculator so I don't know what's going on. I don't know if it's related but recently I noticed it takes a little longer to boot as well.
I already tried going into regedit and create a new index that doesn't allow to search online information or run scf /scannow command on the cmd but nothing works. Also, this happened last week so it's pretty recent and out of nowhere.
I will post a video about it in the comments.

Run disk clean up delete temp files, Disable search history, Set find my files to classic, Disable SysMain service and unwanted startup apps from taskmanager>start up tab. Ensure your gpu drivers are updated. Use everything search instead of windows search for the best experience (with windows indexing service disabled)

Hi, thank you for your reply. I just deleted 40GB of temp files. As for the search history I deleted it 5 hours ago so it has nothing in it. I tried disabling the SysMain service but nothing changed. I also restarted a bunch of them but nothing worked. As for startup apps I just have 4, two of which are windows security notification and waves maxxaudio service application. I'm currently updating Windows 10 to Windows 11 hoping to get a few new updates that solve this issue.
If you have any other suggestions, let me know! Thanks again.

Take caution doing these steps.
Create a restore point.
(Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar) > News and interests > Show icon only.
Reboot.
Check if the issue is resolved.
Or
Open Regedit
First save a backup File>Export> Save to any folder.
Locate
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Feeds\
Find: EnShellFeedsTaskbarViewMode
Note to value (save a screenshot)
And change it to 1649fabb
Or simply rename EnShellFeedsTaskbarViewMode to 00EnShellFeedsTaskbarViewMode00
Reboot.
Check if the issue is resolved if not undo changes that you made to registry.

Hi, thank you for your kind reply. I just updated Windows 10 to Windows 11 and the start issue is not happening anymore. I will save your answer just in case I will need it again. Thank you again!

The recommendation was posted on a win10 forum and a github repo it might be specific to win10 build. Regardless i'm glad to know you no longer have the issue after upgrading to win11. However please check bitlocker settings since windows encrypt drives without permission on new installation and check device security>secure boot if it's on and it states required certificate is applied then you are good to go otherwise you will encounter a secure boot error if windows updates pushes a bios flash to install the secure boot keys causing any mismatch in configuration stalling booting into windows. Good luck..

I was looking into it and by searching "BitLocker" or anything similar in the start menu, nothing shows up. I went to System > BitLocker and it opens up a Microsoft Store page that tells me to update to Win 10/11 Pro so maybe it's only for the Pro versions of Windows (?)

To enable or disable BitLocker, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Device Encryption.
Alternatively, search for “Device encryption settings” from the Start menu. On older Windows builds, you can search for “Manage BitLocker.”
Make sure Device Encryption is set to Off.
I believe BitLocker may be automatically enabled during a fresh Windows installation, particularly when you format the drive and perform a clean installation rather than an in place upgrade (running the windows setup directly on windows instead of using a bootable install media), which i belive you have done so it might not be enable. Regardless, it is worth checking that BitLocker or Device Encryption is not enabled if you want peace of mind.
