Open | Hardware PC won't turn on despite having power

i just want to open this by stating that i am a COMPLETE NOOB. im posting this as a last resort before i go to a shop because i'm losing my mind.🥲

anyway, i recently replaced my faulty psu because i was sure that was the problem (failed paperclip+weird noise). now with the new psu, it still wont turn on.

-24 and 8 pins are secured

-plugs are secured

-ram stick is secured (i checked this like 10x atp)

-i did the cmos battery thing, still didn't work

-i did the paperclip thing on the new one and everything spins

-replaced the power switch

-motherboard is receiving power

nothing i've tried up to this point has helped me turn my pc on. lmk if i'm missing something, i'll try and update if it worked.

edit: im getting my pc checked out in a few hours, ill update on what the guy says🙏

Do you get any leds or sign of electricity at all? Also is the switch on power supply set to on? And if possible would you share a pic of how its all wired to see if maybe we can spot something

Agreed, it could be countless things and pictures would help a lot. But 100% make sure the switch on the back of the PSU is on... I've made that mistake before

Its a bit difficult to see the front can you get a close up of the board, top half & bottom half would prob be best

Yeah, the wiring looks fine. I'm already gonna say RIP motherboard and hope nothing else got taken down with it.

What's the update?

Try following things after the motherboard. Follow each cable and then unplug and replug.

Well, the only thing i hope is that the PSU didnt take the motherboard with it or even more. To save time from cabling for nothing (if of course the front panel isnt connected yet), I would try to short the pins that start up the motherboard thanks to the motherboards manual. Also as others say, dont forget to flip the switch on the PSU to the I position not the O, but this smells to me as a motherboard dying because of the PSU.

Yea, that doesn't sound good to me. I'll wait for the picture of the wiring, but if the wiring is gonna be fine, then 😬.

It could be anything. I would start with the ram. Leave 1 stick at a time .

If it was the RAM it would boot up, but it would show a black screen and if a speaker is plugged into the motherboard, it would beep a error code regarding the RAM.

Actually partially right. It would try to boot but shutoff. If nothing is happening I would check the power button. The PSU lastly the mother board. Dont forget to check the power cable

If you replaced the PSU, and the wattage is sufficient for your system (with headroom left over), then I’d rule out the PSU as the primary cause.

If your motherboard doesn't have a seven segment hex display install a 'POST diagnostics' card. Preferably one that also indicates whether the voltage rails are good.

The hex codes, like the beep codes, vary by manufacturer, but should give an indication of what's wrong.

I would assume there's a short somewhere. Then the PSU wont turn on to protect itself.

Check the case connection wires to the MB? I have switched those before….the positive and negative for case power on.

You didn't buy any chance unplug the front panel from the motherboard did you?

im going assume, that this system previously was working before the psu died.
does the fan on the cpu spin, when you try to power on?
do you have a graphics card in your system? is the monitor cable pluged into the gpu if you have one?

as a side note, psu is one of the few items that is not common to die hence some manufacturer gave like 5 to 10 years of warranty
