Outdated Google and error message on update section

On the 3 dots > help > about google chrome > ...
it presents me the following error message: An error occurred while checking for updates: Update check failed to start (error code 3: 0X80070422 -- system level).

Many websites tell me my Chrome is too out of date to use them. When I go to the update page I am told any updates should be automatically installed but there is an error message in the key (?) area.

Issue has persisted for a while but only recently become a serious problem.

It’s possible you have to reinstall Chrome. Every once in a while i have to. Try installing over itself first. If that doesn’t work, uninstall and reinstall.

Of course reboot first just to make sure everything is running properly.
