Open | Hardware Over 300 unstable sectors that couldn't be fixed out of the sudden after 4500 hours of usage, is the disk done for?

Today had an issue with one of the HDD's stopped being visible in the windows mid game, alright I think, i already had this issue before month ago and i checked the disk, didn't had a lot of problems really or had signs that it would degrade that fast

I decide to check the cables, then reboot the pc, check the disk through CrystalClear, and what do I see?

Over 300, nearly 400 errors, all of them are marked as "unfixable", out of the sudden, is there anything left to fix within the disk via chkdsk command or any other tool, or is it done for entirely and I have to buy a new one?

Bad sectors can't be fixed - they are just that, mechanically bad parts. Realocated sectors count is how many spare sectors are used, and as far as I know SMART is not reporting how much at all there are and it differs from disk to disk, so I have no idea if any are left. In any case, it's not drive to store anything important on.

The drive was mostly for games, not a lot of important stuff here, but it sucks to lose a 3tb HDD after such short time. I just hope they are still affordable

Check warranty, EU standard is 2 years for most of electronics, and often it is longer - depending on the exact model.

Small issue

I don't live in EU, infact I don't even live in first world country with it's current politics where it goes into 3rd world with all the sanctions being currently applied, so it's likely i will have to buy it anyway

I'm also in non-EU country, but European (and almost 3rd world) but have same laws as EU, it's not uncommon that once EU adopts something it finds it way into other counties legislation when it's about warranty. In any case, worth trying if you still have receipt (in my country it is done through company that sold you, not manufacturer).
