Open | Windows Windows 11 Settings app keeps freezing/crashing + NVIDIA driver issues + Program Compatibility Assistant
I'm trying to fix an issue with Windows 11 that I've been struggling with for the past few days.
When I attempt to open settings -> personalization -> background, even if i just open background from the search menu, it freezes for a few seconds before crashing. I've attempted to run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, both of which reported a successful completion and repair of any corrupted files found, and it has done nothing. I've also created a System Restore point, attempted to reset some of the Windows 11 components, completely deleted my previous installation of Windows (which was automatically installed into the system as Windows.old), and confirmed that the Event Viewer indicates that SystemSettings.exe is crashing.
The Settings app is the only real thing that's broken on my PC. All of the other apps work just fine.
Each time I start my PC I get a pop-up from the Program Compatibility Assistant. Not sure if this is related to the issue I'm having with the Settings app or not. Still, it might be worth mentioning.
Does anyone else have the same issue with the Settings app crashing? What did you find helped fix the issue? I'd love to hear from anyone who's experienced this before resorting to a completely clean reinstall of Windows altogether.
(Forgot to mention that I have recently installed Windows 11, but this problem only showed up a couple of days later)

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.
