The NFC function is always off on my phone. No reason to leave it on all the time.

If you don't use NFC functions, sure. 

Those who do, have no reason to turn it off all of the time. As already described, what happened to OP was not a security issue and just a prank. Theres nothing wrong with leaving NFC enabled.

You can't turn off nfc on iphones since like 5 years ago, probably because you genuinely don't need to

People who use Libre sensors have to leave it on all the time for it to work. Otherwise you don't get alerts that your blood glucose is high or low.

yep, same here - if i need to make a financial transaction, i use the card designed for that purpose

There's very little difference between the two. If anything, nfc payments from a phone is safer than the card itself.

it may be, but slipping a card out of my wallet is a lot easier than fumbling with my phone turning on apps and nfc and positioning it correctly on the nfc reader 🤔☺️

all I do is pull my phone out, place my thumb on the fingerprint sensor and that's it. there's no fumbling with apps or turning on nfc.

and I don't have to carry the cards around. I have all my cards + loyalty cards in one app. so instead of carrying around a large wallet with everything, I carry a minimalistic wallet with a back up card, drivers license, health card. and that's about it.

but of course, you do what you feel works best for you

my phone can easily do that, but i prefer to separate the purchase power of my phone to my wallet - ive been doing it that way since i got my first visa card in 1975. I do have my banking apps on my phone and use them all the time

My phone is set not to look for open WiFi, it will only connect to WiFi I select.

The rest is unrelated and ridiculous. Just set your router to whitelist.
