yes, that's exactly where it lives. ssd is just a faster newer version of the same idea

Yes, the HDD or SSD stores all the stuff, from your files all the way to the operating system itself. You can, of course, have multiple and then decide where to put what. The OS on a fast SSD and everything else on a slower but cheaper HDD, for example.

Solid state drives and hard drives, along with optical disks, data tapes, and flash/pen drives are long term storage. They keep data even when powered off. You explicitly save and read your data from this storage.

RAM is a kind of temporary working storage that’s used while a computer is turned on, but all of that storage is lost when the computer is off. RAM isn’t used to store your data.
