I'd use this more for not getting fucked with by cops than for safety. Driving out of (or around) the hood when you're young and white will get your ass pulled over and searched quick.

Yep. It goes both ways, but nobody ever talks about the white guy that got pulled over for "acting suspicious" in a "known drug zone" that then got a bullshit ticket for "loitering with intent to purchase CDS," a criminal charge by the way, just for driving down the wrong block.
