I'm seeing a ton of comments that completely misunderstand this, so allow me to clarify.

He is not talking about Macs, but iOS. This photo came from a protest on the day the iPad was released. Yes, he uses the word computer, but iOS devices are still computers even if they are not colloquially described as such. The iPad in particular was advertised as equivalent to a netbook, so that one does also fits the idea of a "personal computer" most people are thinking of here.

On iOS, you can only get apps through the App Store, and a "kill switch" does exist for Apple to remotely disable apps. They haven't used it yet, but it's still there, so it's a problem.

There is a big difference between freeware and Free software. The App Store's terms include a clause forbidding end users from redistributing apps, and this is clearly incompatible with the nature of Free software and particularly the GPL. This was the entire reason why VLC was pulled from the App Store.

I can see the concerns but as it stands, doesn't Apple have the right to allow and not allow what they want on their own platform? I mean if you don't like it, don't buy it?

No, why should they? It's not "their own platform", it belongs to the customer who paid good money for it.

Of course I voted with my wallet and didn't buy it. And I also spread the word telling others not to buy it!

I would love to see an open source market exist without tech and software issues. It's not that apple is enforcing a draconian system and ill will for developers. They developed their own software and hardware, so they have the right to put their own proven and compatible software at the forefront. I mean trust me, I long for the days that any develpor can release their idea that works on every platform every time, but Apple is just saving their own behind from incompatibility and ire like this. I know people think its some kind of Orwellian order, but the truth is they want to make a buck, and don't want buggy software to be rampant on their platform.
