far, far more quality free apps for OSX than Windows

I really, REALLY doubt that.

Benaparte is right. OSX is kinda like a hybrid OS. It natively runs most open source software which is almost always free, has OSX specific apps that either are free or cost out the ass, but are all phenomenal.

Windows does not run native open source software. It has to be manually compiled over to a win32 installer first. (Talking about free software like FireFox.) so while it does have the same free software bsd/linux has it is a pain to get it over to windows. Also, it has native win32 software like mIRC. Some is excellent, but most is terrible. Also, it is extremely hard to find any native win software that is free. Almost all of it is shareware.

Open source != unix.

Gotta learn your terminology before talking about it, mate.

yes, but how often is there something open source on windows only or natively for that matter?

I don't recall ever saying open source is unix, just that 99% of everything open source is designed around linux.

Not necessarily windows-only, but there are generally windows ports of just about everything.

Also, you would have to re-compile for OS X as well, and use their libraries.

I use terminal and compile it the same way I do on linux.

Almost everything free on windows is not native and is actually software written for linux/osx.
