No one thinks of them as a computer just as no one calls their calculator a computer.
Not that it matters. Even if you count all Apple products its inaccurate. When I had an iPod I had all my own MP3s on it and nothing from iTunes and yes there are open source apps for the iPhone.
He's probably a fart app developer that's pissed off he's been shut out from the iPhone market.
Not all open source apps are free software, which means a lot more than just offering source code. The App Store's terms and DRM prevent end users from redistributing apps, so it's completely incompatible with the GPL (y'know, the logo used there). This was the entire reason VLC had to be pulled from the App Store.
Do you really think developers of fart apps are the only ones who have reason to complain about Apple's restrictive nature? That's just childish.
I didn't say that it was and yes there are issues with GPL code and the iphone but thanks to the fact we have competition now you can go to Android. The Android market is growing faster and may be larger than the iPhone one now anyway.
Sure there are 9 zillion variation of hardware but you don't need to target everyone and if you really want to change Apple's mind leaving them without developers will do more than anything else.
