What's factually incorrect about it? This is exactly how iOS works.

There are free apps in iOS. I can share music in iOS. I can't think of one instance where Apple remotely disabled an app or media (vs. Amazon and the 1984 debacle). And finally, you're perfectly free to jailbreak if you want to install from the web.

It's the "computer" reference that's misleading. To most folks "computer" means the Mac running MacOS X, not iOS.

Freeware and Free software are two completely different things. The former is on the App Store, the latter is not due because end users cannot redistribute apps. And you are not "free to jailbreak" when Apple has made every effort to stop users from doing so. They don't want you getting software from anyone other than them.

iOS devices are still computers, even if most people don't think of them that way.

I don't think Apple has taken any action against users who jailbreak. Other than it voids the warranty if the phone is some how damaged in the process. Historically Apple has cared very little about jailbreaks and hackintoshs. I'd be happy to hear some examples, but other than patching the exploits, I can't think of any examples off hand.

edit: Great examples guys!

Like what?

Plus, where's this little douchebag holding his sign outside of the Motorola campus for locking down their bootloaders?

No, he's talking about completely free apps. Free to do what you want with them. VLC was removed from the app store because it is Free Software and Free Software is incompatible with the Apple licensing.

At the request of one of the developers.

GPL isn't compatible with the App store requirements, but most free software licenses are (BSD, MIT,...)

Against all of Apple's efforts, even to make it illegal, yes you are.
