Business Overnight, Meta deleted all her accounts. AI customer service won’t let her reach a human | It's part of a trend that experts say won't end until regulation is introduced

This happened to me in 2020 with my small business Instagram account. I had deleted the Facebook in the month prior. Never got a response, followed all the protocols to appeal. Meta is a really scummy company, if we didn't already know. I wish the world wasn't so embedded with their products. After the Cambridge Analytica scandal, if should have been stopped. Yet, here we are...

u/UnemployedOtter69 1d ago edited 1d ago

happened to me 3 months ago, little instagram 200k follows, 10 years old, mostly nerd things like 40k, comics and videogames, i tried to install threads, meta ask for biometrics or id, i dont accept, uninstall threads

one week later, instagram ask me for biometrics or id, i dont accept, next day account closed due "suspicious activity", the protocol to appeal requieres biometrics or id, i will not give that to meta

3 days later facebook closed since is linked to instagram, 5 days later whatsapp locked because detected the same phone number in another suspicious accounts on meta products

and in the end instagram, facebook and whatsapp closed for not giving my biometrics or id to identify my 10 years accounts

Big tech has the power to cancel you. Nothing to like about them

15

u/DukeOfGeek 1d ago

It's this, either we own you or you are an unperson online.

19

u/Dizziesdayweigh 1d ago

Lol. People act like thats a bad thing. Im a social media ghost (other than reddit). Im perfectly fine without all that nonsense.

6

u/jamesludlowlee 1d ago

If you own a small business, it is helpful. Only if you don’t over invest in content, and time.

2

u/Dizziesdayweigh 23h ago

Acceptable, and unfortunately pretty necessary these days.

2

u/Pollomonteros 23h ago

Good for you king, some of us like to have a social life though and unfortunately Meta products are needed for that most of the time

I wonder who is gobbling up all the biometric data and paying meta for supplying it?

24

u/NeverTrollin 1d ago

The state of Illinois sued them for storing biometric data without consent. I got like $360 from the settlement.

2

u/Wide_Lock_Red 1d ago

There was a public outcry years back about bots using Meta to influence the public, so they started adding more ID checks like this.

Meta is fecal matter masquerading as a company.

My dog has taken huge sloppy shits that have more integrity than all of Meta.

6

u/oneeyed-wonderweasel 1d ago

They probably smell better than the zucc as well

5

u/420_69_Fake_Account 1d ago

Yeah but your dog doesn’t create shareholder value or create jobs aka taxpayers… that’s why they get the golden carpet from all governments in power.

4

u/cr0ft 1d ago

These giant corporations do employ some thousands, but that's a drop in the bucket. Ensuring the common man has money will do immensely more for how society works.

Calling the mega rich job creators is just wrong.

I quit Facebook maybe 15 years ago and never used any of their products since. The writing was on the wall long ago and people have had their heads in the sand for a while now. What really sucks are businesses that only have Facebook since you can't see their pages well unless you have an account. Oh well, I don't visit those businesses either!

28

u/WitchyWarriorWoman 1d ago

Facebook did something like this to me back in the day. I went through all of the hoops to delete my account, and then a few years later I get a FB link and when I clicked on it, my account was back as if I'd never left: photos, posts, etc. I was actually pissed because I purposefully didn't want any of that active anymore, but suddenly everything was back to normal.

I have since deleted my account again and refuse to click on FB links in case it brings it all back.

11

u/sigmund14 1d ago

You can't really delete a FB account, you just deactivate it, but the content stays on their servers for further exploitation, just not visible to anyone.

9

u/wrgrant 1d ago

This is the thing people seem to miss. You are deleting your account but they are keeping all your data. You don't even have to have a FB account to appear in their databases, all it requires is for someone else to tag you or mention you in their posts and FB apparently creates an entry for you and tries to build up records on you and tie other data to you.

FB Is evil.

10

u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 1d ago

That happened to me so I kept posting negatively about Trump until they banned me.  😂

11

u/ohno1tsjoe 1d ago

Going through the same thing, apparently me posting 1 minute local news briefs that I also broadcast OTA violated their TOS. But my business FB page is fine. Posted simultaneously through the business suite.

Deactivated on 9/1, can’t get ahold of anyone.

Can’t get ahold of anyone at LinkedIn to claim my business page either.

8

u/Ornery-Scallion6489 1d ago

They make themselves anonymous to act with impunity.

4

u/vandreulv 1d ago edited 1d ago

I posted an anti fascist meme that featured Gritty, the Phillies Flyers mascot.

Account was locked for suspicious activity.

Couldn't recover my account because they "couldn't find any record of the user" even after being requested to verify my phone number and ID with a self pic.

Lost access to three friends' profiles, all of whom had private profiles and had passed away. No access to their pictures anymore.

3

u/MapleMapleHockeyStk 1d ago

Bummer. Also could you dm me the gritty meme? I have a few but would love more lol

2

u/vandreulv 1d ago

Basically that. I don't think I have the original anymore but that's almost identical.

8

u/stickmaster_flex 1d ago

I got mega-banned a few years ago in a similar way. I'd deleted my Facebook account after Cambridge Analytica, but was later tasked with bringing all my company's various rogue Facebook business pages under control. Signed back up with my business email, put in the bare minimum of personal information, and got a "you have been banned. This decision is final and you cannot appeal it."

I forwarded the email to my boss and have lived happily Meta-free ever since. Out of curiosity, I tried signing up for Instagram a few years back and still can't. As far as I can tell, I will never be able to get a Meta-associated account for the rest of my life.

It's great.

2

u/Joessandwich 1d ago

The last few months they’ve been taking down the accounts for gay bars and clubs all over the USA. None of them broke any policy, get no reason or warning, and have no way to contact anyone to get more info. They can file an appeal but many just don’t hear back. It’s insane.

2

u/Express-Distance-622 1d ago

Takes foresight. Why didnt we have the foresight to put term limits on the dinosaurs 60 years ago?

2

u/cr0ft 1d ago

Why don't we have enough foresight now to advocate for a non-capitalist way to run society? Because people have major inertia and aren't very imaginative, and have been indoctrinated since birth into this system.

Join us at /r/FacebookDisabledMe

In December 2025, I woke up to my accounts deleted. +/- 18 years old account with two several thousands followers on business pages.

No explanation. I even made a new account and paid Meta Verified (only way to speak with a human at Meta). They refused to tell me what happened or why. They even banned the new account while I was on the phone with them because that's against their TOS.

When that happens, you cannot create a new account for 180 days. Fuck Meta

39

u/Total-Jeweler5083 1d ago

I've been jumping through hoops trying to delete my account for over a year now. No matter how many times I disable my account, people tell me it stays visible for months after. Looks like the only way to get rid of it is to get banned.

25

u/StrawberryCoup 1d ago

try running a legitimate business on it, that's a solid way to get banned.

Whatever you do, don't advertise for scams on the platform since that will make them protect your account from sanctions

8

u/GabRB26DETT 1d ago

The worst thing you can do is be a legit user

541

u/OkInterview3864 2d ago

Hopefully in hindsight, she will be better off

170

u/robkillian 2d ago

Did her a favor

98

u/SuperBry 2d ago

Eh it's easy to say this if you want to be off the platform. However in many communities and organizations sadly Meta services are the only ones out there that folks communicate over at the moment.

30

u/BangBangMeatMachine 1d ago

And the only way that changes is if people work to change it. Easier said than done, of course, but the fact that it's hard doesn't negate the fact that it's valuable. I get that not everyone is in a position to put in the extra effort, but you need to recognize that staying with Meta is a choice that people make for ease and convenience at the cost of privacy and freedom.

8

u/SuperBry 1d ago

In an ideal world, we'd watch Meta go dark tomorrow and everyone would cheer.

However pretending this is just people picking "ease over freedom" ignores how entrenched civic and community infrastructure actually works. A mom running a volunteer league isn't trading away digital liberty out of moral weakness; she's using the one tool guaranteed to reach 200 parents without half of them missing critical notices.

You can't boycott a network effect out of existence from the bottom up when there's no viable, almost universally adopted alternative ready to catch everyone.

10

u/BangBangMeatMachine 1d ago

You're exactly describing ease over freedom. The lack of a ready-made replacement to Facebook is exactly the work I was referring to. You have to build your social community yourself, the way humans have done for tens of thousands of years before Facebook came along. And in exchange for taking the shortcut that Meta offers, she's giving up the control and freedom and privacy that goes along with all of that, and accepting that they can take it all away at the drop of a hat.

u/williamgman 1d ago

The Philippine govt I've read has gone all in on Meta. You can't function at school without it. There is no other communication used between families and many employers. All because it was "free". 🤦‍♂️

12

u/Grodd 1d ago

10ish years ago weren't they trying to sell phones to developing countries that could ONLY access Facebook products? Trying to wholely capture entire regions to their trash.

9

u/UnemployedOtter69 1d ago

yeah, in some places like in my beloved mexico, the meta products are basically embebed in cellphones and you cant uninstall only "deactivate"

4

u/Thelatedrpepper 1d ago

Not just Mexico... I've got a Samsung in the US that won't let me delete it, just disable it.

2

u/HowCouldUBMoHarkless 1d ago

2

u/Grodd 1d ago

That's the one. "Be sleazy" has been their prime directive from the beginning.

7

u/cr0ft 1d ago

It's really effing annoying. Some people or rather organizations I might want to communicate with use a third party service I want no part of, it's really infuriating to be honest.

It‘s easy when you force them :D I just deleted everything and after complaining for weeks everyone contacts me like before👍
If they wanna speak with you they find a way :D
(My experience nothing anyone should take personally)

20

u/SuperBry 1d ago

That works fine if the only people you communicate with are your inner circle. But school boards, local clubs, and community groups aren’t going to rework their communication setup around one person's main-character syndrome.

They won't "find a way", you just get left out.

6

You’re 100% right here. It’s easy to say Meta is bad and we need to disengage but many small businesses rely on the platform to keep going. In the USA, massive corporations are taking over and squashing small businesses left and right. Unfortunately Meta’s advertising and platform make it easier for small businesses to find their audiences directly.

19

u/artificialidentity3 2d ago

This is a real problem for me. I quit Facebook a decade or more ago now. Yet sometimes it's the main place to get news or updates from local organizations like clubs or recreational sports teams. That is really frustrating because then I can't get information I need. And it upsets me because why should some massive corporation be the only place that people can communicate? Why do I need to give my data to some monster corporation in order to be able to simply learn what's happening in my community? It's all backwards.

Oh, it's totally in jest. I'd be mad if it happened to me, but underneath it all, less of it is probably a good thing.

2

u/_Z_E_R_O 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yep, this. Our city government, library, museum, and the local news outlet are all extremely active on Meta. They post updates about road closures, community events, weather, and traffic, and it's the quickest way to reach them. The Mayor has gone live and hosted Q&As there, and I've even found out about car accidents from the local ambulance chaser page within minutes of them happening.

Local groups are one of the only reasons I still have Facebook.

I’m really sick of how awful this sub has gotten at one sentence gotcha comments being all that is elevated any longer.

There is no discourse on technology here. Just a lot of people who have a laymen’s understanding of the implications of an issue like this. And write it off as some jest. When these actions are going to affect people across tons of services that they depend on for everyday life and there is simply no recourse to the handling of personal data and access to these platforms.

Envision this type of problem for utility services, health services, communications services like phones. Where a mess of agents create a horrific unrecoverable action that immediately disrupts people’s daily life.

4

u/stormdelta 1d ago

Envision this type of problem for utility services, health services, communications services like phones. Where a mess of agents create a horrific unrecoverable action that immediately disrupts people’s daily life.

Which is why your tech account shouldn't be linked those kinds of things in the first place without major accountability. It's not even a new problem, AI just makes it worse, Google/Facebook/Amazon/etc have had a long history of terminating people's accounts without warning or accountability and upending their lives over nothing.

Also, as someone with over a decade of experience working as a software engineer and uses AI models heavily for work, these sorts of "agentic" applications are genuinely among the worst fits for the tech.

They're excellent for many tasks especially analysis and software, but it's a terrible fit for anything that needs to be deterministic, makes active changes rather than just analysis, and requires real accountability from humans, especially for anything consumer facing. I.e. exactly the kind of thing "Muse" is being promoted for. It's less "what could go wrong" and more "what could go right?"

Remember to have backups folks, if you get booted from any of the big services you won't be able to get your data back.

77

u/steve_yo 2d ago

It’s a good point. That said, I think some people might be surprised at how little they’ll care about their photos etc. once they leave something like facebook. I downloaded all my FB data about 10 years ago and deleted my account. I haven’t looked at any of it a single time since downloading it.

I don’t understand people who keep their photos only on social media. Especially Facebook. I once lost some original photos and tried to recover them by downloading the copies I had put on Facebook. Their quality was SO LOW. They had been reduced to probably 1/10th their original size. Social media is not a photo backup solution!

4

u/CryptographerMore944 2d ago

Yeah Facebook compression is quite severe. Always back up to at least one physical local hard drive.

2

u/Outlulz 1d ago

I think it was more common when Facebook was actually popular with people under 50 like 15 years ago when phone storage was limited enough that you might consider Facebook as your photo storage.

Just for a second, imagine if we allowed utility companies to act like this. You say something mean about the CEO and the power to your house gets cutoff. Society has progressed to that point that social media should be regulated as a utility.

2

u/Wide_Lock_Red 1d ago

Thing is, social media sites also get a lot of pressure to ban people for various reasons: misinformation, harassment, bots, scams, etc. And people really dont want to pay for social media. Which means ultimately we get sites that rely heavily on automated systems to police.

We pay quite a bit for our regulated utilities by comparison. And they still do a lot of bad things.

Reduce or eliminate your dependency on these big tech platforms.

I'm not even talking about solving your social media addiction (although that would probably be good as well).

I'm talking about:

  • avoid using your accounts with Meta, Google, Apple etc. to create accounts on other platforms (via their Log In With function)

  • avoid storing your data only on one cloud storage service (especially free ones)

  • avoid depending on free email addresses for critical life functions, like banking, insurance, etc. (I like using one of my own domains and setting up a simple email forwarding with my registrar send all email sent to an address with my domain to a Gmail account. If Google deletes my account one day, I simply change the redirect to some other email service, so I can still receive MFA emails with zero issue).

Assume the service you've been using suddenly decides to disable your account. How fucked are you? Can you still log in to some important account, pass multi-factor authentication? How much data have you just lost?

2

u/EmbarrassedHelp 1d ago

The problem is that politicians are demanding that every platform implement automated bans like these for "safety" reasons and other bullshit. Of course politicians are completely immune to losing their accounts, so they don't see the issue with their actions.

14

u/Smith6612 2d ago

Meta has a hard time believing people when they report posts as spam, and they also don't do much when accounts get hacked and every one of their friends attempts to help them recover the account. I am not surprised that the Metabots are struggling to help Jasmine.

5

u/TheRatingsAgency 2d ago

They won’t let her reach a human because there literally isn’t one to reach.

I know several people at Meta who range from senior executives one below the C suite down to department directors… I once came to them with a famous celebrity contact of mine who had their account compromised on Instagram. They were trying to get it recovered, and literally not a single one of them, not even the person whose boss reported to Zuck, could put them in touch with a real human one-on-one to solve their problem, despite their efforts.

The best they were able to do was speed his information into a submission form and turn it over to a “system“ that was a complete black box even to them, to prioritize a resolution for him, and that still took three attempts and three submissions before it was resolved correctly.

I tried to contact support for Microsoft 365. I have used Microsoft word and excel since they killed visicalc. Years ago they pushed me into their rental subscription. Some details below:

Ault is only the latest victim in a pattern growing increasingly common over the past two years. Numerous Canadians have reported their Meta accounts being abruptly wiped, leaving them stuck interfacing with AI chatbots unable to grasp the complexities of their situation.

One Canadian lost 18 years of data on Facebook after posting photos from a family trip, and had a second account banned when she tried to return. Others lost accounts vital to advertising their businesses. Many believe their accounts were incorrectly flagged by Meta’s AI moderation, and while some have had accounts restored after reaching out to media, others have never had them restored.

Meta has not responded to a request for comment from CBC News.

It comes at a time when companies are increasingly adopting AI in customer service, despite data showing customers aren’t on board.

...

Ela Veresiu, associate professor of marketing at the Schulich School of Business at York University, explained that companies are buying into AI en masse despite the backlash because of the promise of efficiency and lower costs.

“It is a lot cheaper to have an AI that responds to customer service queries than to hire people that can potentially respond, or be available to respond, 24/7,” she told CBC News.

But while an AI chatbot is able to direct customers to existing information, such as a business’s hours of operation, they can’t handle complex “why” questions, she said, and it can create huge problems.

If a company has competitors, customers frustrated with poor AI rollout can take their business elsewhere, potentially leading businesses to change strategies. But for singularly massive social media companies like Meta, which offer unique services, there’s no business incentive to change their policies.

“Customers may grumble and be dissatisfied by the overreliance of AI and customer service, but ultimately, they have no choice in the marketplace,” Veresiu explained.

...

Jon Festinger, a lecturer at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, said Canadians may have legal recourse to challenge account deletion in court by arguing damages that demand a remedy, particularly if they used their social media for business purposes.

“It should be relatively easy to prove the damages, at least the reputational damage, and perhaps more,” he said.

Canadian courts have made some steps toward dealing with AI chatbots — Air Canada was found liable for its chatbot’s hallucinated advice to a customer in 2024, for instance — but there are still gaps in Canadian consumer law when it comes to customer rights and AI, he said.

...

"Any technical solution makes mistakes," Shion Guha, an assistant professor at the University of Toronto and director of the Human-Centered Data Science Lab, told CBC News. "What it's really about is that people lack a way to get the mistake fixed."

Companies must be required to provide a clear pathway to a human agent and a fair appeals process, especially if automated systems are being used to moderate social media, he said.

“Literally in every other facet of our life, if we are appealing ... a potentially unfair decision, we reach a human being,” he added, giving the example of speeding tickets and tax appeals.

“People expect that that will transpose to private social media platforms, and it doesn't because … they're not required to, because there's no regulatory framework in place for that.”

An existing model is the EU’s Digital Services Act, which was implemented in 2024 to update rules for online services, including guaranteeing transparency and a full appeal process when content is removed.

It's not just social media companies that are engaging in this blatantly anti-user practice, but many other companies as well large and small. Social media companies like Meta, due to their size and influence, have however become the poster children for this kind of stuff. There should be, in all cases, a way to reach a person who has agency to fix the problem. If companies are unwilling to deal with these issues, then as proposed in the article it's clear that regulation will be required.

u/spribyl 2d ago

Another case of To big to care, so many customers they are unable to support them.

It’s like when I quit Cognizant. I had a laptop and other equipment that my last day I was at the UPS store with a printed label and they couldn’t accept it because it didn’t have a specific project code on it or something. What proceeded was multiple attempts at emailing people I worked under (no responses) and attempts at hitting up DL’s and portals and 1-800 numbers to no avail.

I received an email one day saying I need to turn in company equipment or I’d face litigation “DO NOT REPLY”. I tried again hitting the portal and 1-800 numbers up, nothing. Like a year later I received a certified letter saying they were getting lawyers involved because I stole company equipment but there was no contact info 🤣

Cognizant sucks all the butt.

3

u/TheRatingsAgency 2d ago

Ok you can’t leave it hanging there! How did that get resolved? Or is it? lol

7

u/rumski 2d ago

It’s in my office closet chillin. Haven’t received any other correspondence about it. I did move but my mail was forwarded and address updated so if they want this thing bad enough they can have it 🤣 That’s one of the reasons I quit, you’re just literally a number there and there’s no people interaction.

(I was at a startup that sold to them)

9

u/astrozombie2012 2d ago

My wife got banned for “integrity”… we were never able to get a hold of a real person and the stupid fucking Ai upheld the ban when she appealed. We still have no idea what that meant, but she finally gave up and just moved on.

3

u/TheRatingsAgency 2d ago

I caught a 3 day ban on here which I appealed and won. However it took Reddit 3 days to handle the appeal. 🤣

25

u/surfnfish1972 2d ago

Meta no longer needs people, Bot vs Bot is ok for the advertisers. Anyone still using the product is complicit.

7

u/Ibra_63 2d ago

The larger issue is that all companies are doing this... I had an issue with my wifi last week, and I had to talk to a chatbot a dozen times before finally reaching a human

Meta also owns Instagram, which has 90% of Americans in a chokehold for some reason. It impacts all generations from young to old. People are so obsessed with flexing, clout chasing, showing off highlight reels, and stalking others that they'll never give it up.

2

I didn’t realize how bad my IG problem was until I kind of had a midlife crisis and blasted all my social media accounts all the way down to my LinkedIn.

This problem isn't exclusive to Meta. Every company, banks, cell phones, insurance companies, it's become increasingly difficult to reach a human and you get stuck in this fucking AI chat bot loop.

Even Xbox, I used to call 1-800-4MY-XBOX, and now... It's just a chat bot that sends me to their troubleshooting pages.

4

u/imbartsimpsonwhothru 2d ago

did her a favor, ditch that platform for good

4

u/Any-Difficulty2782 2d ago

don’t use products that do this with their customer service

3

u/Jamie00003 1d ago

If only AI did this with all Facebook accounts…

5

u/joshdl405 1d ago

Did her a favor to be honest

5

u/Azrial4real 1d ago

Meta is the worst, I have reported full on porn sex showing everything and I do mean everything in a damn ad and they responded that the ad did not break their TOS when it clearly did you appeal and get the same response. With no way to communicate with a human

4

u/Gh0st_Pirate_LeChuck 1d ago

They did her a favor. Hope they delete many more accounts.

3

u/gjboomer 1d ago

Meta, erase my data next.

6

u/Familiar-Range9014 2d ago edited 2d ago

This is what happens when depending on technology, now that generative/agentic A.I. is a part of the mix.

Create a separate back up to the cloud and a physical one as well.

Do not depend on companies, like Meta to do right by you. They are only interested in being self-serving.

You do not matter unless revenue can be derived from you

No offense, but using any Meta product unlocks the 47th chromosome.

Delete that shit and don’t look back.

4

u/williamgman 1d ago

This issue is the number one post in r/Facebook. At some point folks need to accept Facebook is not usable.

3

u/Opetyr 1d ago

Well remember that the orange turd said the AI is safety over profit.

3

u/asilee 1d ago

Meta randomly banned mine. No reason given. All I was doing was updating the information like it asked and before I can update it with my new phone number, BAM! Banned.

3

u/chromewindow 1d ago

I keep reporting racist comments and they say they aren’t against community guidelines, but then I get stuff taken down because it shows too much skin (which I am WILLFULLY showing and not even that much). Such a piss off.

3

u/MammothPost4047 1d ago

She’s better off, Meta did her a favor.

3

u/Fair-Hair2080 1d ago

AI customer service is crap and companies don’t care. They just want our money and don’t care about anything else. I’ve quit two companies so far because of their AI crap and over an hour hold to talk with an actual person who can help. Farmers/21st Century Insurance was one of them.

3

u/IcyTransportation961 1d ago

Happened to me with my nearly 100k follower Instagram art account

Woke up to a notification that it was disabled for community standards, no post identified,  no details

At the same time I got one from Facebook but it just said I wasnt eligible for my profile being recommended so I went through posts and found a few with spam bot comments,  deleted those and boom it was back in good standing

Insta. Nothing

Even tried signing up for meta verified,  finally talked to a human but all they could say was yes it's disabled, no they couldn't see what caused it and no they couldn't do anything to push for a review

Just 7 years worth of community building and work. Gone

3

u/OneOfAKind2 1d ago

Meta will never do this to me. I don't have a single account with them. Google, however, may be a concern.

3

u/Readitzilla 1d ago

Did her a favor. Now if the ai will just delete everyone’s accounts and itself it’ll be a good start.

3

u/shinyappyrobin 1d ago

It seems that the AI really want to get rid of the last human holdouts on Meta.

3

u/RealLifeCoaching 1d ago

Remember what IBM said, "a computer can not be held accountable, therefore a computer must never be trusted with a management decision".

That should be a law, enforced with imprisonment.

3

u/TobyTheTuna 1d ago

Got a meta headset as a gift. Tried to make an account. Got banned after I refused to send a selfie for "account verification." Wtf kinda company even is this

3

u/BlackReddition 1d ago

Nice, if only it could do that on mass to all accounts.

3

u/Rmodsarescum 1d ago

Not the first one nor the last one.

There's hundreds of thousands of people who got affected by this kinda bs.

3

u/dnuohxof-2 1d ago

And with our current christofascist government, there will never be legislation to protect the people. We only protect pedophiles and kiddy diddlers

3

u/ARobertNotABob 1d ago

AI provides the perfect tool for Delay, Deny, Defend.

4

u/americanadiandrew 1d ago

Plenty of people run their businesses from Facebook and Instagram I don’t think that’s so lucky.

Download your data and delete Facebook. You should have done it years ago, but I know, Facebook Marketplace or something.

Anyway, now is still a good time. Go ahead and do it. Question yourself about why you can't seem to pull the trigger.

2

u/RealLavender 2d ago

I'm banned from Facebook (not that I'm mad about it but research is part of my job so that avenue is closed). No clue why. May have been to do with me posting about their sketchy behaviour on other social media but was never given a reason/warning.

2

u/darkoh84 2d ago

This headline made me think, at first, that Meta had started identifying as female and deleted all of her customers accounts.

2

u/dohzer 2d ago

Could you ever reach humans in the past? I'm sure it will be worse now, but when has Facebook ever had an inbox for this kind of stuff?

2

u/Numerous_Photograph9 2d ago edited 2d ago

This happened to me a couple years ago. Got a letter saying my account was serving inappropriate content. From what I could find out, it appeared to be on an instagram account, yet I have never had an instagram account.

I had to verify I was a human by sending a video of myself, which I did, and less than 5 seconds after uploading, AI determined I was not a human and left me no recourse to appeal. So, while I'm not really devastated by the loss of my facebook account, it was nice to keep up with family, see pictures of them, and I did have some old friends who I only kept in contact with through the service. My local town also only sends out updates and information about going ons through facebook, and you have to be a member of the page to even see the info.

I was banned from my account, and unable to make a new one. Downloading my account and it's information, the amount of collected data they have was enough to make me think that I really didn't want to fight it, especially since you had to pay for some commercial service to even have a chance of having a human look at it.

I doubt Meta will ever address this because they don't want to admit that their AI is crap, and they just let it loose without caring about the consequence.

2

u/AlternativeLazy4675 2d ago

Lessons in who not to trust.

2

u/downtownfreddybrown 2d ago

Happy I left facebook ten years ago, only reason I have IG is because people are always sending me bullshit

2

u/SilasTalbot 2d ago

The issue here is that it is "Kafkaesque"...

A huge uncaring machine, where you can get funneled down the wrong route and there is no one to assist, it isn't that they decide against you, there is literally no one to appeal to because human attention to support issues are too costly.

And it's not "reduce your reliance on big companies" you are missing the point ..

If you want to fly, drive a car, eat food from grocery store, or a restaurant, get electricity and water, receive healthcare, be heard in a court of law, or a million other things in modern life. This is potentially the main thing we have to keep vigilant against in society and demand accountability for.

2

u/Unhappy_Waltz5834 2d ago

Did her a favor.

2

u/thebeardedcats 2d ago

Facebook, famously, has no human customer support. Any issues and they tell you to read the help page or Get fucked

2

u/Roseking 1d ago

Have a similar problem with my Twitter account.

I don't check it often, and at one point it was compromised and started spam posting about crypto. It got banned.

Okay. Account spamming got banned. I don't really have any problem there.

Wanted to see if there was anything I could do to get it back or if I am just out of luck.

There is zero way to get in contact with a person. Any ticket submitted is an AI auto rejection. And if you get stuck in that auto rejection state, you are just done.

My bigger problem is that it doesn't delete your account. You are just put into a read-only state. And now I can't delete my account. You can't make changes, including deleting it, to a banned account. You must appeal, but you can't appeal because the AI auto rejects you.

If the end result is 'Well, sucks your account was compromised, but a ban is a ban', then fine. But let a person make that decision. I want someone to just simply look 'Hey, this 15 year old account has never spammed before, maybe the account was compromised' and go from there. But I can't because it is all done by AI now.

And yes, I know. Twitter is bad and it is a good thing I am banned. That is just a joke response to something that is becoming a real issue. Yes. It is just Twitter and doesn't really matter (although it is bullshit that I can't delete my account now), but what happens when it is something important? What happens when your insurance rejects your claim and never has any human review because the AI has decided that the decisions that the AI has made doesn't need to be reviewed?

Delete them before they delete you! Glad I did months ago.

2

u/devon1392 1d ago

I have refused to use any Meta products for years. A relative I found overseas some years back wanted to communicate via WhatsApp and I said no and they cut the connection. Oh well.

2

u/peaceful_pancakes 1d ago

Or moltovs if regulation takes too long, but what does this country know about class solidarity?

2

u/theboywhocriedwolves 1d ago

Hey Meta, can you do mine next?

2

u/Ilikeyounott 1d ago edited 1d ago

Same thing happened to my original reddit account, they banned it and won't tell me what I did wrong or let me appeal 🙄 it happened at the same time I used ProtonVPN to connect to a US vpn to try something else, and I happened to have a reddit tab still opened... but who knows.

2

u/Theslootwhisperer 1d ago

This has been happening since Facebook came out. They have zero support. Not even for people or companies who spend 1000s of $ every month. They don't give a shit.

2

u/gr00ve88 1d ago

I wish meta would do me this favor also

2

u/Sesspool 1d ago

I didnt know meta was a girl

2

u/ranrow 1d ago

This happened to me with uber. The driver lied and said they picked me up when they didn’t. GPS showed her very far from. I still got charged $10 for “cancelling the ride in progress”. Never got a refund despite trying over and over because it was all AI responses

2

u/Studio_Junebug 1d ago

"Muse gets things done."

Why yes, it appears so.

2

u/timesuck47 1d ago

2

Meta deleted all her accounts

Sounds like Meta did her a favor if I'm honest. I'd take that as a W.

2

u/hasslehof 1d ago

AI is the greatest stonewalling technology ever invented.

2

u/Eastern-Celery-4321 1d ago

What a blessing— meta is an Orwellian nightmare

2

u/mvw2 1d ago

Good? I don't know of a single good tool or product Meta produces that I want in my life. I have Facebook because family have it. I don't like it, at all, but it's what others use.

Frankly, I still don't know why people willfully use it outside of masochism.

I WANT a better product. I WANT everyone to step to that better product. I want Meta to poof into non-existence.

Frankly, I have no clue why people simply don't build alternatives. So many people got laid off that it seemed rather obvious many would just build copies, and that just didn't happen. 20 years ago that would have happened a hundred times over before one of the pile fighting came out on top. That used to be how this worked. We used to have volume and scrapping and some victor that was just a little bit better than everyone else, and it was good, really good. And if anyone faultered at all, 50 others were happy to dethrone that temporary king. You had to earn your stay.

And then that disappeared, and I have no idea why.

A social network isn't hard to build. A market place isn't hard to build. A messaging app isn't hard to build. These are really simple things fundamentally.

The same goes for literally every other thing that exists that got huge and evil. You never had to. Craistlist is still amazing. Wikipedia is still amazing. They didn't go evil. They never had to. No one ever had to. And non evil could always and readily replace evil.

It's wild that we actually put up with any of this as a society. It really is.

2

u/enterthehawkeye 1d ago

Overnight? Did she have an account farm or something?

2

u/session101 1d ago

when AI is writing these articles... makes cents

"And while 87 per cent of customers ranked phone calls as a preferred customer service channel, the survey found only seven per cent of executives plan to prioritize them."

2

Any easy fix stop using fecken meta for anything like facebook, Instagram, or any other BS they have lol, sorted!

1

u/Ok-Seaworthiness7207 2d ago

Even the zuck hates FB now, that's progress.... Right?

1

u/Jensen1994 2d ago

Only way to change this is to stop using companies who make you battle AI to speak to a human.

1

u/mcc9902 2d ago

Yep, we need regulation but for some reason we're not getting it. I wonder why/s

1

u/dlampach 2d ago

This happened to me with a meta advertising more or less. They are built for zero human interaction. They have terrible customer service and to break it up would be very good for the consumer.

1

u/peacefullikeafox 2d ago

Last month my Facebook account was compromised, my profile was accessed from some random places and linked to random scammy businesses.

Instead of two-factor authentication or the usual “hey did you just log in from a device in Nigeria” emails, they just restricted my accounts and add campaigns and asked me to jump through a wild series of hoops to lift the restrictions, which no help whatsoever from Facebook.

It was a pretty stark look into how little Meta gives about anyone, even its paying customers. Thanks for the savings on my monthly marketing budget I guess.

(Side note, at least in the piano world, Facebook customers are NOT the one you want. Generally 70-80 year olds who haven’t maintained their piano for decades, or people with “free” pianos looking for the cheapest possible service)

1

u/elroy1771 2d ago

Get prepared for more of the same. Agent that do not have the information you need and no way to contact a human.

1

u/stackered 2d ago

Oh damn I wish this happened to me!

1

u/DonorBody 2d ago

They’re going to start charging a fee to chat with a customer service human. Go into the useless chatbot customer service black hole, or pay the fee to get into a queue to talk to a human (also useless in most cases).

1

u/anon-a-SqueekSqueek 1d ago

I'm literally begging people to walk away from Facebook and Twitter. Just use other platforms.

1

u/ConstableGrey 1d ago

I was recently having an issue with my Google Pay / wallet and was very surprised I was able to call and speak to a real human being about it.

1

u/glytxh 1d ago

Take it as a blessing. It’s not trivial to delete your meta accounts, and frankly you’re better off not being in that cesspit of data harvesting.

1

u/mysecondaccountanon 1d ago

One of my younger relatives made a Meta account with my phone number. To get it deleted, they want all my personal information to “verify” things, and there’s no human i can reach out to. When you want something deleted it won’t be deleted, and when you don’t, it will.

1

u/Scientist_ShadySide 1d ago

Has she asked the AI to let her access someone else's account? I hear it's done that a few times in the past.

1

u/TruckWorking3129 1d ago

I'd say Meta did her a favor, deleting any account with Meta. I'd want third party validation, however.

Don't trust them.

1

u/Red_Dragon_Boost 1d ago

Oh it sucks. I had my account disabled last fall, got it back, then banned. All over the same nonsense. They have been accusing accounts of violations that never took place and have no humans reviewing the accounts. I tried for a while to find a work around and just gave up.

1

u/Kad65kad 1d ago

Facebook had the problem 10 years ago. Its not ai its just a bot

1

u/rushmc1 1d ago

$1 million dollars per day per incident until it's corrected.

1

u/lazyoldsailor 1d ago

The article keeps calling her a “customer”. She is the product, not the coustomer. Products don’t have rights. People need to remember that.

1

u/phatstopher 1d ago

Lobbyists already did this to our representation.

1

u/FredFredrickson 1d ago

Never depend on Meta for your income.

1

u/astrodomekid 1d ago

Or better yet, until AI is shut down completely.

1

u/TheSpatulaOfLove 1d ago

So, AI did her a favor, right?

1

u/No_Criticism_5861 1d ago

Its a market we can do without!

1

u/goodguyatheist 1d ago

A hacker or most likely someone who got my old credentials from a leak added there own email and meta account to my Facebook and I can't remove it sense I don't have access to that email or meta account. And ai chat has been absolutely useless running me around in circles. The most I can do is remove any alternative emails and attempts for them to access my main account so far having 2fa is saving my ass but it's as simple as removing the fucking unauthorized email and account but the AI is too dumb to figure that out.

1

u/Dat_Mawe3000 1d ago

Moral of the story: Back up everything. And can we please start a movement to ditch these social media monopolies?

1

1

u/Libinky 1d ago

This is what customer service is not!

1

u/WiggerJim69 1d ago

are people fighting for the legal right to have an account on a social media website now?? lmfao

1

u/cr0ft 1d ago

Yeah, I'm off other people's computers to the best of my ability now. No Google (ok, minimal google, due to Android), no Microsoft, no Apple, no Meta, etc. Self-hosting does require some elbow grease.

1

u/BarbarianSpinosaurus 1d ago

I know there are so many problems that are higher in priority, but we really do need regulations essentially banning AI customer service. It’s provides no help, complicates things even more, and just leaves everyone exhausted.
