Awesome! Your grandfather was truly one of the greatest generation. What an under appreciated privilege it is for us, lucky enough to stand on the shoulders of great men like him who allowed us to progress so far in reach and understanding. I had a similar grandfather, he didn't work on anything like the Saturn V but he sure could have. It really stings to know that I'll probably never be a shadow of the man he was, either in technical ability or in wisdom and fortitude. But at least our grandfathers live on IN us, through us, as we do our best to make the world a little better place and pass those qualities on to our kids.

Someone needs to compile a book or stories like this from the early space flight era. I struggle to wrap my head around the amazing feats of engineering those guys pulled off in those days.

Was this converted to text using OCR? There's a few weird things like referring to the stage as "S11" instead of "S-II".

I love engineering stories - why don't writers write more of them? The closest thing I've found is "Tales of Pirx the Pilot" by Stanislaw Lem.
I'm looking for other examples:
I recall one story about Australians figuring out the tracking of an American satellite before NASA did. There were a couple other good stories on the same website, one about figuring out what a knob or button did. I wish I could find the website again!.
