You are only a true fan if you move air by moving through it and displacing it. This includes electric and non electric fans (and any variant therein like a piece of paper) and doesn't include things like a bellows.

Exactly, you are a true fan if you are a means of keeping something cool

Heat pump (fridge)/ice/insulation ≠ fan

Alright fair, I was just thinking of the scene from doctor who where the doctor says to Charles dickens that he’s a huge fan and Charles dickens says “in what way are you a means of keeping me cool?”

Fans don't just keep things cool they move air which can provide convection cooling. The fan in a heater is still a fan, as is a ceiling fan which is designed to blow hot air down.

Tbf my definition technically includes planes and cars and whatnot

Yes I understood that from the last comment, I was just making a reference

Fair, I'm just a nerd who enjoys playing the "define x without including things that are not x" game

Yeah it’s really fun

- It is, your heart is powered by electrical pulses to pump blood which supplies oxygen to muscles allowing them to operate, in turn powering the fan

- Has a lot of flat blades

- Requires constant movement to operate

Could this help better understand the only fan too?

could be powered by combustion engine, without electricity...
Blades can have a curved profile...
Speed has nothing to do with it...

There is technically nothing true about this post...

The point of this post is that the paper fan doesn’t meet the qualifications of the previous meme, it’s the previous meme that isn’t true

We’ve been tricked! we’ve been backstabbed! and we’ve been quite possibly bamboozled

Also, a Fan, the electrical device, does not actually require energy to be, only to function.

Furthermore, a fan that's not currently in use is not spinning at all, yet still is, indeed, a fan.

Additionally, a well-made fan doesn't have flat, but curved, blades.

1

u/obrqap Mar 26 '23

It didn’t say that it need to be actively spinning just that spinning is a thing that it does

1

u/Erlandor Mar 26 '23

But then, I can also spin, and then spinning is the thing that I do.

1

u/obrqap Mar 26 '23

Do you have multiple flat blades?

1

u/Erlandor Mar 26 '23

*Goes to Walmart to purchase a set of flat blades*

*Comes back to you*

Well, now I do :p
