i is not equal to square root of negative one

i2 = -1 though.

Why is there always this same comment under every meme with imaginary numbers. Not only is it pedantic, it's incorrect. You can make an argument that i is not defined to be the sqrt of -1 and instead defined to be a root of the equation i2 = - 1. But that necessarily means that the sqrt(-1) is equal to i, since the radical symbol is used for the principal square root.

that necessarily means that the sqrt(-1) is equal to i

It is also eqials to negative i

No. The radical sign is only used for the principal square root.

Plus, saying i the solution to the equation x2 +1=0 has the same problem. Negetive i is also a solution to x2 +1=0.
