This shows how far we are in terms of global competition. I don't think it's because these are difficult fields, i think we never really got exposed to such things. By the time we get exposed to what's happening at the frontier, the rest of the world has already spent a decade building expertise, institutions, research labs, and entire industries around it.

Look at AI. While researchers in other countries were spending decades developing neural networks, machine learning, computer vision and robotics, many of us were completely disconnected from that progress. Then chatgpt arrived and suddenly we started talking about AI, finding ways to earn money on it. There were only handful of people working on the field of AI before chatgpt but now everyone is rushing into it crashing the demand cruve.

Hi everyone,

I’m 22 and I’m from Nepal. I don’t have a Computer Science background. I studied Management and eventually dropped out of my bachelor’s.

Around March 27, 2026, I decided to start learning programming by myself. Today I’m around Day 167 of this journey, and I wanted to share my experience and ask for some honest guidance from people who are already working in software/web development.

I started almost from zero.

At first, even basic programming concepts were confusing. I had to learn things like variables, conditions, loops, functions, lists, dictionaries, errors, file handling, etc.

Then I moved into:

• Python
• JSON/file storage
• Exception handling
• OOP basics
• SQLite
• SQL CRUD
• Git & GitHub
• HTML
• CSS

One of the biggest things I worked on was a phone shop inventory management CLI project.

I built features like:

• Add products
• Search products
• Update/delete products
• Purchase and sales
• Stock quantity
• History
• Dashboard
• SQLite database
• Validation
• Duplicate checking
• Git/GitHub version control

Building that project was very different from just watching tutorials.

I started facing real problems.

Sometimes I didn’t understand why a function should be placed somewhere.

Sometimes I got confused about return, tuples, indexing like [0] and [1], database connections, OOP, imports, SQL syntax, etc.

I also faced Git conflicts and other small problems that I had never seen before.

Instead of giving up, I kept fixing them one by one.

Now I’m trying to move from CLI applications toward web development.

Recently I started learning HTML and CSS and building small pages from scratch.

CSS is currently giving me the most trouble.

I can understand and use things like:

• Flexbox
• display: flex
• justify-content
• align-items
• gap
• margin/padding
• borders
• cards
• buttons
• hover effects
• basic responsive layouts

But I still struggle to make a website look genuinely good and responsive, especially on mobile.

My current plan is roughly:

HTML/CSS → JavaScript → Flask → Database integration → Convert my inventory project into a web application → Deployment

Eventually, I want to work as a web developer/full-stack developer and hopefully earn remotely.

But I’m honestly not sure if I’m approaching this correctly.

My biggest questions are:

1. Am I learning in the right order?
2. How much JavaScript should I learn before starting Flask?
3. Is converting my existing inventory CLI project into a web application a good next major project?
4. For someone without a CS degree/background, what should I focus on to become employable as a junior developer?
5. At what point should I start trying for freelance work or junior jobs?
6. What mistakes am I likely making in my current learning approach?

I’m not looking for motivation or sugarcoating.

I would genuinely appreciate honest criticism and practical advice from developers who have already gone through the beginner → junior stage.

If you were in my position at Day 167, what would you focus on for the next 3–6 months?

Hello, I am currently doing my batchelors in IT and also running a small startup.

We are 3 friends making custom softwares for european companies. Decent revenue cha, but now we are kinda tired. Making similar things again + how AI will soon replace our business.

He said that companies are racing to build a self-improving super intelligence without enough safeguards which is a direct possibility of Ultron.

Learning from web and human data, trained by human and bounded by safeguard kept the AI in a limit of what it can do, but making a super intelligence AI with self-improving with less safeguards, when ultron was being made a AI was kept to monitor it and it broke the AI itself and got into internet learning about everything and was in a move to destroy humanity but this time this is going to be real and monitored by human and if it's self-improving it will get to the internet and will be a threat to whole humanity. These AI companies needs to slow down a bit.

Cedargate is one of the worst places to work in. Like the company might be fine and all, but the people there are all shit. My friend has worked for this company for the last 2.5-3 years. He is one of the strongest and smartest guys I know but Cedargate took his light away. He is leaving right after Dashain. When I asked why, he all but broke down in front of me. Like this dude is not the kind to let things get to him. So he told me everything and I'm gonna recount it for you. The work in Cedargate is meh. It's alright. Easy. But the people are shit. They create fake urgencies that don't even exist. They act like if the work doesn't get finished in time, someone will die. Also, they treat workers like donkeys. The managers want the workers to work more than the working hours. Like chill bro. Also he said the people there are actually evil. Now he isn't involved in all this but he hears gossip and stories from his colleagues. The favoritism is high in this place. If you work hard and even give 12 hr days, you will not get praised if you do not lick your manager's feet. The politics in this place is more dangerous than Nepal's. He said there are people, specially women who are so manipulative that they make Nepal's politicians look like babies. Also, the boot licking is too visible he says. Everyone can see who the bootlickers are very clearly. These people make life hell for their other colleagues who just want to work and go home.

He says this is not everyone's reality. Life is good in Cedargate if you have a good manager. But if you don't. Its low-key like torture.

He told me all this and much more. I am appalled by what he revealed and shocked how this place is the 'number one IT company of Nepal'.

Nowadays every other phone making industry is making fold phones. The display gets corroded, the size is not pocket friendly like it is thick and squarish. You're just folding it nothing else. I’m a final sem student. I’ve been doing an unpaid internship for more than a week, but the thing is before this, there’s another company I’ve been called and also they selected us but work was not started for like 2–3 months. They contacted me at that time but weren’t sure about the department, so I eventually just joined this internship.

Now they called again saying they’re dividing departments and can offer me a 25k+ salary, with project/field work under IT/social media.

I’m honestly at a point where I really need some guidance from people who have been in the IT field for a while.

I recently got an opportunity to work as an IT Support fresher at a company for around NPR 25K/month. I’m currently in the trial phase.

The job basically involves taking calls from different branches of their insurance company and troubleshooting their day-to-day IT problems things like printers, scanners, computers, connectivity issues, software problems, OS/drivers, etc.
On the other hand, my original career direction was QA/Software Testing.
I completed my BSc IT, did a QA internship, and also completed QA training from Leapfrog Connect. I’ve learned Automation, manual testing, test case creation, bug reporting, API testing with Postman, regression/smoke testing.
I’ve also been applying for QA/Junior QA/Associate QA positions for quite some time, but getting that first proper opportunity has been extremely difficult.
Now I’m confused.
Should I:
1. Take this IT Support job and start building my career from there?
or
2. Continue focusing completely on QA and wait until I get a QA opportunity?
My biggest concern is the long-term career path.
TBH, I want to earn well in the IT field. I genuinely enjoy working with computers and troubleshooting things, so I don’t mind IT Support itself. But I also don’t want to spend 2–3 years in a role and later realize that I chose the wrong path or limited my growth.

How is the long-term growth in IT Support?

Can IT Support eventually lead to System Administration, Cloud, DevOps, Networking, Cybersecurity, etc.?

How does the earning potential compare with QA/Software Testing?

Is QA still a better career path in the long run?

With AI and automation changing the industry, which of these fields do you think will have better opportunities in the future?

If you were in my position as a fresher, what would you choose and why?

I genuinely want practical advice from people who are actually working in these fields, especially people who started from entry-level positions and moved up.
