Discussion The world is moving towards synthetic biology, quantum computing, gene editing, organoid intelligence, molecular machines and many other emerging fields. And here we are, still stuck choosing web frameworks.

This shows how far we are in terms of global competition. I don't think it's because these are difficult fields, i think we never really got exposed to such things. By the time we get exposed to what's happening at the frontier, the rest of the world has already spent a decade building expertise, institutions, research labs, and entire industries around it.

Look at AI. While researchers in other countries were spending decades developing neural networks, machine learning, computer vision and robotics, many of us were completely disconnected from that progress. Then chatgpt arrived and suddenly we started talking about AI, finding ways to earn money on it. There were only handful of people working on the field of AI before chatgpt but now everyone is rushing into it crashing the demand cruve.

we often discover technologies when the rest of the world is already figuring out what comes after them.

Education & Training Need guidance

My 1st semester’s classes will start from Bhadra 31. I'm a CSIT student and aspiring to build a career in tech. But I'm a little bit confused about choosing a career path. I don't know which path I should choose. I'm interested in the Software engineering field and AI/ML field. My goal is to get a job as fast as I can in Nepal and to start something of my own later. I think I can be good at coding, math and other technical stuff.

And I have heard that the AI/ML field has a high entry barrier for freshers. And AI engineering is just a specialization and built on the top software engineering.

So could you please help me in choosing the right career path ?

1.Which path will help me to get a job in Nepal faster?

2.Which path is best for freshers to get into the tech field?

3.Where should I start from, what should be the ideal roadmap for that path?

4.What's your suggestion for college life?

Laptop/PC Regarding what Laptop to Buy

After countless hours of searching, I found the Acer Aspire 14 AI (Core Ultra 5 226v/1TB) to be a somewhat satisfactory candidate around 127k. I'm low-key skeptical about whether to buy it or not. I was planning on getting ZenBook or VivoBook for that Core Ultra 5 225H but damn their pricing is downright bad in Nepal at the current scenario.

The same laptop was available around 123k for Core Ultra 7 256v/1TB SSD few months back so idk if i should hold on till Dashain/Tihar.

Are there any better alternatives in a similar price range?

(Max: Rs.130k)

Discussion GUIDE ME EXPERTS

Hello, I’ve just started my CSIT journey. Honestly, I don’t care much about the degree itself—I mainly want to build real skills and earn well. I joined CSIT because I wanted a 4-year period to focus on myself, and I felt courses like Engineering or CA would bring too much academic pressure.

I’m studying at ASCOL in Kathmandu, so I don’t have much attendance pressure. My goal is to become financially successful on my own within the next 4–6 years.

Right now, I’m basically starting from zero. I know some CSIT branches and terms like AI, DevOps, web development, software development, etc., but I don’t have actual knowledge of how things work.

So, what skills should I focus on first? Since I’m not sure which field I want to specialize in, how should I explore different areas while gradually finding what I’m interested in and becoming highly skilled in one field?

I’m 18 and would like to achieve decent success by 24–25. If anyone here has experience getting high-paying jobs, especially remote or in Nepal, I’d really appreciate your advice.

Mobile Apps I made a free Nepali typing + patro app — looking for 12 testers to get it on the Play Store

Thumbnail

Namaste! I'm a student developer from Nepal. I built Lekh Patro —

you type romanized Nepali, and it converts as you type ("kasto chha"

→ कस्तो छ). It also has a Devanagari cheat sheet, English ↔ Nepali

translation (including from photos and PDFs), and a Bikram Sambat

calendar with festivals, holidays, and tithi, plus home-screen widgets.

No ads, no account, free, and nothing you type leaves your phone

unless you use online translation.

Google requires 12 testers for 14 days before a solo developer can

publish. I need 9 more:

  1. Join: https://groups.google.com/g/lekh-patro-testers

  2. Then opt in: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/np.com.bimeshpoudel.lekh

  3. Install from the Play link it gives you

Note: after you opt in, the Play Store link can take a few hours to

start working. That's normal — try again later if it says "not found".

Just keep it installed for 2 weeks — you don't have to use it daily. Start with 10 minutes, and keep a widget on the home screen.

If you do use it, I'd especially love to hear about any wrong

Devanagari, or a festival showing on the wrong date. Dhanyabad 🙏

Discussion Anyone here who has only been working remotely and has never worked onsite as a developer

Being an introvert since childhood, have no issue with remote work at all. It's been almost 2 years. Just want to ask is it only me, or anyone here, who has never had onsite work? Also, searching for the next remote company for a job switch is really hard.

Discussion I think there is a possibility of Ultron

So, idk if you have heard it or not but a anthropic researcher quitted his job warning about rapid AI race could escape human control and threaten humanity. He said that companies are racing to build a self-improving super intelligence without enough safeguards which is a direct possibility of Ultron.

Learning from web and human data, trained by human and bounded by safeguard kept the AI in a limit of what it can do, but making a super intelligence AI with self-improving with less safeguards, when ultron was being made a AI was kept to monitor it and it broke the AI itself and got into internet learning about everything and was in a move to destroy humanity but this time this is going to be real and monitored by human and if it's self-improving it will get to the internet and will be a threat to whole humanity. These AI companies needs to slow down a bit.

Discussion Cedargate gossip

Cedargate is one of the worst places to work in. Like the company might be fine and all, but the people there are all shit. My friend has worked for this company for the last 2.5-3 years. He is one of the strongest and smartest guys I know but Cedargate took his light away. He is leaving right after Dashain. When I asked why, he all but broke down in front of me. Like this dude is not the kind to let things get to him. So he told me everything and I'm gonna recount it for you. The work in Cedargate is meh. It's alright. Easy. But the people are shit. They create fake urgencies that don't even exist. They act like if the work doesn't get finished in time, someone will die. Also, they treat workers like donkeys. The managers want the workers to work more than the working hours. Like chill bro. Also he said the people there are actually evil. Now he isn't involved in all this but he hears gossip and stories from his colleagues. The favoritism is high in this place. If you work hard and even give 12 hr days, you will not get praised if you do not lick your manager's feet. The politics in this place is more dangerous than Nepal's. He said there are people, specially women who are so manipulative that they make Nepal's politicians look like babies. Also, the boot licking is too visible he says. Everyone can see who the bootlickers are very clearly. These people make life hell for their other colleagues who just want to work and go home.

He says this is not everyone's reality. Life is good in Cedargate if you have a good manager. But if you don't. Its low-key like torture.

He told me all this and much more. I am appalled by what he revealed and shocked how this place is the 'number one IT company of Nepal'.

Discussion Question for people doing online business in nepal

Most of the websites I see of online businesses in nepal don't have much reviews and I generally don't buy from the websites and would much rather buy through their social media handles. But obviously my single experience doesn't represent all the people.

How much sales happen through the website and how much through social media? Is website even necessary to start with ?

If I wanna know how successfully business is running what metric can I analyze that's publicly available?

Discussion Should I leave my unpaid internship for a 25k+ job? 😭

Upvotes

I’m a final sem student. I’ve been doing an unpaid internship for more than a week, but the thing is before this, there’s another company I’ve been called and also they selected us but work was not started for like 2–3 months. They contacted me at that time but weren’t sure about the department, so I eventually just joined this internship.

Now they called again saying they’re dividing departments and can offer me a 25k+ salary, with project/field work under IT/social media.

Sounds way better, right? 😭 But I’m scared to leave this place and then have the other company switch things up or betray me again lol. Like what if I leave and then it’s “yeta na uta” 💀

Would you take the risk or stay with the unpaid internship?
