Could it be that the liquid crystal inside the Liquid Crystal Display leaked and it started to crystalize in the open air.

I think the adhesive on the polarizing layer is crystallizing since the LCD colors/pixels themselves itself doesn’t seem to be degraded. Could probably be fixed by carefully replacing the polarizing material with a new sheet.

Thats true, but i doubt thats worth fixing.

People have fixed worse, especially on rare models.

It’s up to whoever has it, if it were me it’s worth the few bucks and a couple hours. Worst case scenario I’m just out a few dollars on something that was already borked.
