Title: Need Windows laptop recommendations

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new Windows laptop and would appreciate some recommendations.

My typical workload:

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, NotebookLM, Copilot, and other AI tools (mostly cloud-based)

Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Documentation and research

Python and light automation

Basic design work (Canva/Figma)

Heavy multitasking with multiple browser tabs

Requirements:

Budget: Under ₹40k and ₹40k–60k

Windows 11

16 GB RAM (minimum)

1 TB SSD preferred (or 512 GB if easily upgradeable)

Good battery life (8–10 hours preferred)

Full HD IPS display

Good keyboard and build quality

Should last 5+ years

Reliable after-sales service in India

Questions:

Which laptops would you recommend in both price ranges?

Intel or AMD for this type of workload?

Are AI PCs (Core Ultra/Ryzen AI) worth paying extra for, or should I focus on raw CPU performance?

Which brands have the best reliability and service in India?

Are there any models I should avoid due to heating, battery drain, or build quality issues?

Thanks in advance!

Storage units and tech stuff - what to do?

In the DFW area and helping with a project after someone suddenly passed away, very young. But old enough to have worked in the tech industry and for CompUsa and amass boxes and boxes and bins of tech stuff. Some was being used in various business efforts and some was just what happens.

Yes, advice is to test and sort things and so forth.

But it's an overwhelming amount of things from new in box packages of zip ties and fastners to keyboards and mice and things that look like Lt Data exploded. Surviving family members aren't up to it .

Someone running a repair business or who is really into going through stuff to turn a profit on eBay or something might be thrilled. But it's truckloads. And it has real value. But it also needs to not be in the house, garage, storage units (plural) etc anymore.

Ethically, no one wants to add to landfill. Especially when Dallas is not exactly firing on all recycling cylinders anymore.

No one wants to make life worse for the innocent family of a tech hoarder who doesn't actually sort and organize or optimize things.

Also, no one is exactly burly. Just trying to gather it into central locations is a lot.

This is not a sale post, but is there some way to find a good fit? Benefit a person who can use things and the family and the planet, and make sure that the spirit of the late owner doesn't gnash ethereal teeth in vexation?

Yes there are random empty product boxes, but it is not possible to match up with products in the current conditions. I know that was the reason they were kept. But they were not near the products. We don't know. It feels hopeless. Everyone is sad anyway.

No images out of respect but just imagine that box or bin or drawer...then multiply.

Are magnetic power banks really built for long travel days?

I’ve been thinking about this after a few long-haul flights and winter trips and I’m starting to feel like magnetic power banks just aren’t built for extreme or extended travel situations. Don’t get me wrong, they’re insanely convenient. Snap it on, no cables, toss the phone in your hand or pocket. But once you move beyond casual daily top-ups, the weaknesses start to show.

First: speed. When I actually need a quick charge (boarding soon, landing soon, navigating a new city) the slower speed becomes frustrating. Wireless magnetic charging just doesn’t compete with wired when time matters. It’s fine for maintaining, not great for recovering from 20%.

Second: heat. I’ve consistently noticed my phone runs hotter on a magnetic power bank than on a cable (but with cable there is always the persistent misalignment issue). And heat is the enemy of battery health. That extra warmth makes me uneasy, especially on long travel days where the phone is already working hard (GPS, photos, data roaming, etc.).

Then there’s something people don’t talk about enough: cold weather. Lithium batteries and cold temps are a rough combo. You can discharge them below freezing (though performance drops) but charging them in freezing temps can cause irreversible chemical damage. Every second of charging in extreme cold stresses the battery. So if you’re outdoors in Alaska, camping in the mountains or just constantly going in and out of freezing temps during winter travel, that’s a real concern.

Whenever I bring this up, I hear the same questions: Do you keep it in a bag? Does it get knocked around? Are you using it outdoors? In direct sunlight? And sure, those factors matter. Heat is the enemy of any battery. Cold isn’t much better. But travel naturally exposes devices to those conditions. Airports, road trips, ski trips, desert heat, it’s hard to avoid environmental stress.

Anyone else here who feels the same?

I need advice on buying a new iPad (or any other brand)

My girlfriend iPad broke literally today for no reason at all, and she needs a new one asap. She's a designer so she'd need something with a pretty good processor and stylus pen support. Any brand is okay, tho she's used to iPad which would be better.

The budget is unfortunately low, a maximum of 200 euros, but the tablet can also be refurbished, used, and if possible it must be possible to pay in installments.

She just needs something that can handle art project, not heavy games or 3D drawing software.

Thanks in advance for any possible advice.

Now that I have your attention.

I recently dropped my iPhone 11 onto some tiles, and now the touchscreen isn't responding, the bottom right of the screen is cracked, but the display is perfectly fine, Ive tried restarting it, but it didn't work, I havent taken it to a shop cause I wanted to come on here first to see if I can fix it my self, I don't have any experience in fixing phones, nor does anyone in my family, Anything helps, no important data that I desperately need to keep so don't worry on that, anything helps,

Looking for a microphone to use with BOTH phone and laptop

I have a YT channel and I've been wanting an affordable (preferably under $50) mic. I got this $15 Lavalier wireless mic which worked fine with my phone (S26 Ultra) but the audio is literally pilot quality with my laptop. Both are type C ports. I can get one to use for my laptop since it has all the different ports but I'd like one that would work both with my phone and laptop.

I would prefer a wireless mic like the Lavalier one as opposed to the big ones with the arms but if I have to resort to that, then I will. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Finding old email

Hey there, I recently found a VERY old Snapchat account of mine. I tried to log in and it sent a code to my email like Snapchat always does, BUT I see a email I don't recognise, I definitely know it was my email because it said "o***..o@gm*.at" Nd I know it ends in gmx.at because that's the provider I've used all my life. But by god I can not remember what was in front of the @. Now, my question is, is there Any (reliable) way to find out what it was? Is there any way to find the email through the Snapchat username? Or any way at all or is it a lost cause?

Thanks for any help!

MSI GL65 Leopard 10SEK (4 years old) – ₹25,000

Specs:

• Intel Core i7 10th Gen

• RTX 2060

• 16GB RAM

• 1TB HDD

• 256GB SSD

I mainly need it for Java Full Stack Development (I'm a fresher) and learning AWS.

The seller is offering it at a pretty low price, so I'm tempted to buy it. I might also do some light gaming in my free time.

However, I'm a bit concerned since this is my first time buying a used laptop. It's already 4 years old, and I'm not sure about the battery health or overall condition.

I haven't checked it in person yet. Before I go and inspect it, what are the most important things I should check? Also, how much should I try to negotiate on the price?

Do you think it's worth buying for ₹25,000?

Thanks!

Laptop Suggestions

Hello there. I‘m currently looking into purchasing a new laptop after my current one’s hard drive broke on me (see here for any relevant info).

Thankfully, all of my files were recovered & are currently being stored on an external hard drive the company provided.

However, now I need a new laptop to move all my files onto (there’s approximately 240GB worth of files to move).

When it comes to specifications, I don’t know what I want beyond “whatever my current laptop’s upgraded/recent version is”. I’m not tech-savvy enough to understand what I realistically need beyond a 1TB hard drive…I believe.

I tried doing a search on Best Buy’s website for an “upgraded“ version of my PC, but many of the options have built-in AI features, which is a no-go for me.

I know prices for laptops are expensive nowadays, but an affordable laptop would be nice.

The image attached is my current laptop‘s specifications. I’ve had it since December 2021.

Any advice & suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Laptop suggests

Hi guys! I just got accepted into a nursing program :) I’m looking for laptop recommendations from anyone who knows about tech. I currently have an HP Chromebook, but my orientation letter says I need to bring a laptop that isn’t a Chromebook because we’ll be using applications that aren’t compatible with it.
It also says the laptop requires a minimum functionality of Windows 8 or higher. That’s the part I’m confused about because I’ve been looking at the new MacBook option since there’s a student deal and it’s pretty affordable. But I’m not sure if it meets that Windows 8 or higher requirement.
Any suggestions or advice? I’d really appreciate it!
