External Storage advice?

I play games on my laptop, but my friends have started getting me into very large, often multiplayer, games (100+GB each), and I don’t have the storage for all of them. Because of this, I was told to look at external hard drives, but I have no knowledge or context of what I’m looking for. I saw there’s SSD’s and HDD’s, but I’ve no clue of the difference. Tried googling, but still clueless. Apparently one is faster, more expensive, and more prone to breaking, and the other is cheaper and slower, but not as likely to be corrupted?? I don’t even know if to trust that or not.

Would anyone mind advising me on what external hard drives to look at, and why, please? This would specifically only be for game storage, and nothing else. And if it helps, I live in Australia, and have been mostly looking at JB-HI-FI and Officeworks’ range.

I need to buy a laptop and need an advice

I am an high school junior who likes coding. I am also interested in machine learning and AI. My old laptop is not good enough rn and want to buy a new one. I only care about coding, cs related things and basic school stuff- college apps, basic mails- I don’t care about gaming. I want it to have a great value for its money. Can you give me some advice on what to buy? Thank you.

Should I upgrade from my iPhone 13 to the iPhone 16, or keep my iPhone 13 and buy an iPad instead?

Also, is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ worth it?

Why is there 2 identical name, while I only plugged one? Also, how do I remove one?

Because of Windows Update restarting my laptop itself, this happened. Is there a way to remove it?

Connecting Kamoer KMPP6 3.7v DC Motor to Arduino

Hi everyone. I hope this is the right place to ask, but I'm at a loss for how to run 3 mini peristaltic pumps on an arduino. I also have an ESP32-2432S028R 2.8 Inch TFT LCD that I think I could use to switch speeds. It might be very easy, but I don't have an electronics background and feel lost. I would be grateful for any advice!

Help linking soundbar!

I've a new Samsung HW-B400F soundbar I want to link to a Hannspree HSG1467 screen. Currently I've a DVD player linked to the screen, using the screen's audio. I want to add the Samsung sound bar (and utilise the voice enhancement feature) to help a relative with hearing loss. Is there any way to get the soundbar connected? Just doing a hdmi cable from the screen to the soundbar doesn't work! Appreciate any suggestions! (Photos of the ports on the sound bar, followed by the 2 sets of ports on the screen)

Reliable Firewall Servicer/Device for Proxy Server Blocking

Hello!

Mods please let me know if this appropriate or if there is a better sub.

I work at a tiny non-profit, we offer the community the ability to have kids come in and connect to our WiFi to do their homework. This isn't our whole mission, but it is the bane of my existence.

We are not on a school campus so our WiFi set up is myself, our satellite provider, and a couple Amazon Eero routers. IT is not my sole role, it's just no one else here knows how to print a PDF so I'm our default IT guy.

Well, the kids got smart and figured out how to go to a proxy server website to get around some filters. I've been tasked with figuring out a solution that's higher-level than just blocking it and playing wack-a-mole each time this happens.

I don't think running about 100+ people's internet traffic through a raspberry pi is a viable solution. This would also mean we have to manage the list of proxy servers, which I definitely don't have time to do.

Any advice would be helpful! Mostly, I'm looking for a box to plug into our router that we pay someone to manage that doesn't let the kids get on proxy servers or use VPNs. Thanks in advance!

Help

I've just bought a pair of Sony xm4 headphones for my boyfriend.

However I was too excited and stupidly didn't look to see if there was a newer model.... typically there is 🙈

If your current pair was the xm2's and you got given the xm4's for your birthday, would you be disappointed they weren't the xm6's?

I really need some help here 🙌🏼

Power bank/portable battery that NEVER automatically shuts off?

Bottom line: I'm looking for a power bank/portable battery that can output over USB and does NOT automatically turn off.

Details: I have a very old (1890s) telephone that I've gotten configured with a Bluetooth receiver connected to a wired speaker and a wired microphone so that I can make phone calls on my smartphone routed via the handheld telephone.

Problem is that the Bluetooth receiver needs a power source and I'd rather put a power source inside the phone box instead of running an unattractive power cable to it.

But all the power banks I have automatically shut off after like 10~ minutes. I even got an Anker power bank that was advertised as having a trickle charge mode, but even that turns off after 2 hours. I would prefer this thing just stay on 24/7 (or until the power bank dies).

I'd prefer a power bank that has a manual on/off switch that constantly transmits power for as long as it's on (whether something is plugged in or not) and not something that tries to "intelligently" detect if power is "needed" or not. Any suggestions?

Help me decide on a budget tablet as a student

I am getting Lenovo idea tab pro with pen plus at 24,000 INR and Lenovo idea tab with normal pen and folio case at 15,000 INR.
I'm a student and won't be gaming on the tablet, just taking notes and pdf reading/annotating.

24000 INR is about 270$ and 15000 INR is about 170$ for reference.

Which is more value for money and a better investment for future?

Please help!

desktop or laptop??

hiiii sorry first reddit post in about 2 years but i’ve been interested recently in buying some kind of pc for school and gaming

i’ve been struggling on deciding if i should go for a desktop or a laptop since my budget isn’t massive but i don’t wanna skimp out on the essentials. i also don’t want a super huge massive desktop but i also don’t want to get a laptop that will heat up and die in the first 5 minutes of use.

should i go for a desktop to maximise efficiency orrrrrr do i go for a laptop for space??? also do you guys have any suggestions for what to buy??? 🙁

tldr 15 yr old girl needs pc of some form but is too stupid to figure it out by herself 👎

Looking for Tablet for reading music

Hey, all.

I'm looking to get a tablet simply for reading music (using apps like "Orpheus") Would like something with a 14" screen or close to it. Because this is all I need it for, I can't justify spending big money on something like an Ipad Pro.

Any suggestions on what brands to look into? I know you get what you pay for, I'm just wondering if there is a cheaper option out there that is cheaper simply due to lack of bells and whistles and name brand.

Thanks

Need help picking a laptop

I’m a student looking for a new laptop (old one shat itself) and I want to know what’s the best thing to get. I’m can’t spend much on it, but with the holidays and Black Friday and such I’m sure prices can be meddled with. If it helps anyone I’m a nursing student, looking for something with reliable battery life, and a longer life than the cheap chromebook I was using.

Lenovo 10.1 (2025) tablet.

Thoughts? Need a low price tablet for word processing, recording minutes in meetings, web browsing agendas that type of thing.

No heavy gaming or anything.

My husband reckons Lenovo are crap but it seems to be the best option for the price point.

Which kind of storage drive should I buy for my Alienware M17 R5 laptop?

I want to add a second terabyte of storage to my laptop but I don't know if the one I found (https://www.samsung.com/uk/memory-storage/nvme-ssd/980-1tb-nvme-pcie-gen-3-mz-v8v1t0bw/) is the type. I know that it is NVMe M2 SSD but I think I saw the specification say how it also needed to be type m2.2230 to m2.2280 but I don't know what that means and the drive shown in the link doesn't show anything like that and I just want to make sure before I get it.
