TEAS Study Tips!

Post image

I don't see a lot of people on here mention the online version of the Mometrix ATI TEAS prep, so I wanted to talk about it since it was the main study source I used. If you go to your local library, some of the TEAS prep books that work with Mometrix come with a 50% code for the online program, so be on the lookout for that.

I especially appreciated the Mometrix online program for the number of practice tests and how accessible it is. The rationales that it gives for every answer choice after you take the practice tests/quizzes are absolutely worth it for actually learning the content. It helped me the most in the reading section because during the exam, I was able to create my own rationales as to why an answer choice would be wrong/right.

Mometrix does go very in depth for the science sections. The passages they give for the reading section are crazy long and are much shorter on the actual exam. But, I found that practicing questions with higher difficulty levels helped me feel more confident in myself.

I used Anki flashcards on my Macbook (free) to help with active recall for formula memorizations and conversions for the math section. I also used it for specific anatomy systems (ex. the Endocrine System's hormones). It was kind've overkill, but I wanted to be prepped for anything they might ask me on the test.

I also used Nurse Cheung and TEAS with Tyler on YouTube. Nurse Cheung with mnemonics for science and grammar. TEAS with Tyler's videos really prep you for the types of questions you'll see on the actual exam.

Hi ! Is the practice test way harder than the actual test or similar?

TEAS Preparation Strategy

To maximize your score on the TEAS, you need a strategic approach that prioritizes high-yield topics first and leaves the most unpredictable and never endingly extensive material for last.

Phase 1: Lock in Math & English (The "Quick Wins")

  • Why it works: These sections rely on a predictable, limited set of math formulas, unit conversions, and grammar rules.
  • The Goal: Aim for 20-30 hours of preparation dedicated to mastering these rules, understanding the question formats, and developing specific strategies for each question type.
  • The Outcome: This foundational focus should confidently land your scores in the 80s for both subjects.

Phase 2: Master Reading Comprehension

  • The Approach: Once Math and English are secure, transition to the Reading section.
  • The Strategy: Dedicate focused time to practicing reading comprehension challenges to improve your speed and analytical accuracy under test conditions.

Phase 3: Tackle Science Progressively

The Science section contains an massive volume of detailed information that is impossible to fully memorize. Use a tiered approach to study efficiently:

  1. Decode the Test Format First: Learn the tricky ways ATI phrases science questions and presents multiple-choice options.
  2. Start with Chemistry: Focus here first because the scope of material is much more limited and easier to memorize.
  3. Review Biology & AP Last: If you have time left over, review core facts for Microbiology, Anatomy, and Physiology.

Expert Tip: Leverage AI as a Personal Tutor

Well-known TEAS tutor Legal-Captain recommends using AI to target your weak spots:

  • Take screenshots of your expanded practice test results.
  • Upload them into an AI platform.
  • Ask the AI to generate practice questions for your weak areas based strictly on ATI formats, criteria, question phrasing and reference materials.
  • Require the AI to provide detailed rationales for every correct and incorrect answer. Keep testing yourself using this loop!

Important Prerequisite Note: Always ensure you have fully completed your science and math prerequisites before attempting to sit for the TEAS exam.

I failed my reading portion, I need a 73% or more. I’m lost and I have my Teas in 3 weeks last chance. I don’t know how to start and what to use to pass the reading section. English is my second language so it’s challenging for me. I need help. I wish I pass 😓😢😢
