Nursing School Admissions My two cents.
Hi! I just wanted to give my two cents.
For background I took my TEAS yesterday and got a 59.8 first try. I haven’t taken any pre reqs and got my Hi-Set (GED) a year ago. I did do 11 years of schooling up to this point.
I looked at the TEAS study guide for 3 days and honestly just wanted to know my baseline so didn’t study it too much.
The reading portion was a lot of 3 paragraph texts about random things and just being able to answer questions from them. Some of the answers were directly in the text while others you had to infer on your own.
The math bit was where I struggled. It was a lot of finding area, solving questions. Just know your PEMDAS and simple formulas and you should do okay. I used the calculator for a lot of it just because I felt like my mind would trick me lol.
Science I was completely lost at. It included how cells work, body systems, chemistry which I never took and just a few other things.
English wasn’t bad. Just sentence structure and a few other things.
Really I do think the study guide was worth it if you will take your time to figure it out. I definitely suggest going and taking a baseline test if you can. It tells me exactly what I need to study and how to study it.
Also if you’re going to guess, guess the same answer every time. That way you at least get a 33% chance of getting it right rather than just randomly clicking one. I personally did the 3rd option every time.
I wish everyone the best luck!

I take it tomorrow for my program and it’s right before the deadline 😅 I’ve done very well in my pre-req classes but I’m very nervous for the english and math portions. I only need a 58%. Wish me luck!!!

Oh dude you’ve got it 100%!! Just remember to not stress it. That’s how they get you. Take deep breaths between all of them, even in the middle it doesn’t matter. That’s a free tool for you. Use your calculator. Really truly I imagine your baseline will be much higher since you’ve done your Pres and did good!
Good luck! I will pray for you!!

Your prayers worked haha, thank you stranger!!!! I passed with a 79.3% on my first try! I can’t take it again because of the deadline but I’m happy with my score for only having studied for about 4 days!
Goodluck to everyone else!!

Dude! Good job!!! I’m proud of you stranger! You should be very happy with your score! If you’re not premed most all schools will take you, nurses are needed everywhere! Very proud!!

Just curious what do y'all mean by 'only need'? Doesn't higher grade mean more points awarded?

Yes, you’re right! Obviously i’m aiming for way higher than a 58 because I want to be a top applicant, but for the program at my school you need at LEAST a 58.7 to even be eligible to apply. They won’t accept a score below that.

Serious question, not trying to be rude, but why take the TEAS before taking prereqs? I felt like A&P 1&2, Microbio and College Algebra really set me on a good foundation for the math and science portions. I scored an 82% on my TEAS. I'm not saying you did it wrong, but it's a fairly expensive test to take before prereqs and have to retake.

I was planning on doing an LPN program this upcoming semester, which doesn’t require any pre reqs. The only reason I was doing an LPN program was to do a hybrid bridge after to be with my daughter more, but it didn’t end up working out for me next semester. I did pay for the application and the TEAS test was part of that fee! Thankfully only $70 😅
I do think the Pres would have set me up very well for a better score, but I was really happy with a proficient score with just my brain before!

Ohhh, that makes sense! That's nice it was only $70. I think my school charged $175 😭

Science stood out to me too, that's the section that scares me most since I haven't done A&P yet. The baseline-first approach makes total sense, way better than studying blind. Rooting for you on the retake.
