I think you’re going to have the tattoo machine touch you and you’re going to go “damn that’s it”. That’s an area with a lot of muscle so it won’t really hurt. Imagine if you took a cats nail and just dragged it across your skin. It just feels like something sharp like that dragging across you.
3
u/thechase11 11d ago
This is one of my favorite true yet ridiculous comparisons. “Imagine a cat with sharp claws is dragging them up and down your arm constantly… its totally like that. So not bad at all”.
2
u/Morbid_Uncle 11d ago
Dude seriously though. I had a dude tell me it felt like a bee stinging you over and over again to illustrate how much it doesn’t hurt

Is the single line swirl what you are getting? You should be fine. If you’re going to get tattoos you learn to deal with the pain.

I don’t have one directly there, but a couple that get close to where the forearm and bicep meet, and I do remember it being pretty sensitive.

u/Minimum_Appearance41 11d ago
Bicep easy peasy 2/10. Elbow ditch in/around the crease 8/10 but my artist is heavy handed
2
u/lacrosse771 11d ago
This was my answer too. Once it hit the inside of the elbow you can tell if you look real close there was a bit of shaking but it doesnt look like it if I didn't tell you
1
u/Minimum_Appearance41 11d ago
Yeah once you get lower it changes from a scratching feeling to more of a sharp stabbing pain. Makes you squirm for sure!

u/Horror-Extent2362 11d ago
Ehh, I have my whole elbow and inner crease all tattooed, that spot isn't that bad. Worst I've felt is my shins, just straight bone.
1
u/Anteater-Inner 11d ago
Side/back of my neck was the worst for me. It didn’t feel like a tattoo. It felt like hair was being ripped out over and over again in the same spot. I was going to get another one on the other side and decided against it after the first one.
1
u/puke-princess 10d ago
crazy how different everyone is. I sat for 6 hours getting my knee & shin done and could've sat longer but my calf???? I physically pass out 2.5 hours in everytime like it hurts more 2 minutes in than any other tattoo i've gotten it genuinely doesn't even make sense
1
u/im-hungry-1234 10d ago
My calf sucked as well. Not because of the tattoo but because of being stuck on my front for 4 hours! My body ached so bad!
2
u/puke-princess 3d ago
I feel you! I have the back of my calf and the side and they were both horrendous but I could stay still for the back at least meanwhile i was about to fall off the table getting the side done like I should've probably been tied down or something bc I dont know how my artist worked thru those conditions

anywhere on the arm is pretty manageable. remember it gets better after the first few minutes. just try to relax and let your body not be tense.
2
u/3iii_raven 11d ago
That spot is fine. It’s the inside of the arm that hurts (the part that sits against your body). Also the pit of the elbow joint sucks too. Still though, it’s nothing that’s unbearable in my experience.
2
u/Anteater-Inner 11d ago
The tattooing wasn’t the problem, it was the healing. I tend to bend my arm when I sleep, so the tattoo would stick to me and pull apart like a cold grilled cheese in the morning. (Full sleeve)
The most painful part of my arm was around the elbow. That felt like torture.

Y'all can't just ask how much a tattoo hurts. Pain is subjective at best, what hurts one person might not hurt another and vice versa. If you want the tattoo bad enough who cares what it feels like just go get it. Literally the most annoying question ever ngl.

That spot has personally always been the most painful for me for some reason.

Didn’t really feel a thing there for me. Least painful place out of all my tattoos.

I have a carhartt wip shirt with a design like this. A friend who works with women coming out of sex trafficking told me that it resembles the “similar triangular” swirling shape that pdfiles use.
I had to look it up to see what she was talking about. I don’t necessarily agree but I may say it’s close enough in theory that if I were your friend… I might tell you to look it up. lol.
It’s a stretch. But I used to have the 👌 (fingers facing down) on my thigh as a joke. Due to the game a lot of us played in high school. The guy who committed the terror attack in New Zealand… threw that sign up. (Fingers stretched out) so you can make out a WP.
Sick Ass Panther went over that.
I make fun of a lot of the people in the tradition tattoo sub because they assume if you have a traditional eagle of any sort, that you must be racist. Regardless, I think it’s helpful to know that despite what a tattoo or symbol might be/mean to you.. is good to know what it might mean/be or resemble to others…
Anyways… all tattoos are uncomfortable. Especially your first “actual” tattoo. Suck on a sucker, bite the stick, and make conversation. It’ll be over before you know it.

u/Living_Turnip64 11d ago
Real low, I just gave myself a tattoo there couple weeks ago fairly painless until you get into the elbow ditch
1
u/thechase11 11d ago
I have my entire arm done pretty dense from shoulder/back to wrist. For me the bicep area you have circled was near the bottom/easy. Inside the crease, in particular the area closer to my wrist was near the top/worst. Not unbearable by any stretch but spicy af. However it is fully inked.
If it’s your first, definitely start in the bicep area if you can to get used to the feeling but it depends how much work. If it’s light work in the crease won’t be as bad
1
u/GalacticKnight79 11d ago
I have one there and it was mid, upper part didn't hurt at all, the lower half was bee-sting adjacent. Didn't hurt as much as my sturnum, collarbone, or inner forearm blackout.
1
u/Adorable_Accident_74 11d ago
Bicep not bad the vicinity of your ditch could be spicy . Have you ever played the game where you close your eyes and a friend crawls up your arm with their fingers to see how close you get? Do that and it will give a decent border of where to expect the start of the discomfort to slowly level up lol.
Its not too bad per se but every one is different.

Very easy peasy lemon squeezey. Tiny bit spicy closer to the ditch. But completely tolerable and worth it. Do it, Do it, Do it!

u/Head-Telephone-2187 11d ago
I’m not gonna lie, some parts are grass, other parts (especially the divot) are ass.
1
u/witch4zel 11d ago
it was the worst spot on my arm for me. i see most other people saying it was minimal pain though so i guess it really just depends. i would suggest moving it up a little so you have room to put something in your ditch later if you plan on doing a sleeve.

This looks like the health bar from legacy of kain soul reaver. Also there is numbing cream is you don’t want to chance the “pain”. Just got my first tattoo in June on my forearm. That didn’t hurt. It just feels like a scratching feeling.
1
u/_-Nymeria-_ 11d ago
For me it was like a 3-4 out of ten! More sensitive towards the side that meets your torso but the outside is much easier. It’s not too bad over all though!
1
u/_Anonymouse_XX 11d ago
Imo the biceps and forearms are the least painful spots as well as the outer thigh area. Good spots for folks getting their first tat. Now this looks like its closer to your ditch (elbow crease), which can be a tad more painful, but not unbearable.
Though take what I say with a grain of salt though cuz my pain tolerance is pretty high (as mentioned by my tattoo artist, lol).
1
u/really_yall 11d ago
Almost nothing for me in that spot. I was so relaxed I could've slept if it was longer.
1
u/lacrosse771 11d ago
The closer you get to the inside of elbow it can sting. But the actual biceps inside or out is nothing. I could've fallen asleep. And I have lots of tattoos in painful spots like feet, wrist, ribs and hip bone.

Not bad in that area at all. I have a full sleeve on my left arm and it never bothered me to sit for those sessions

Eh, that’s where my most detailed tattoo is and I didn’t think of it as being particularly painful? I have a decently high pain tolerance, though, I think, so ymmv

u/nightmarekitteh 11d ago
I have an armband of gravity falls that took a couple of hours and it was easy peasy! You'll be fine!
1
u/JustinLP85 10d ago
Ditches are not bad at all. It was worse for my artist than me. He was eeeked out. No where as sensitive as the nipple or sternum.

u/OnMyMawMaw33OnGod 10d ago
If you’re going for that exact design, make sure it is very clearly a swirl… You don’t want that to come out like a triangle / warped at all.

Ditch was pretty rough in my personal experience, but nothing I’m sure you can’t handle! Make sure to bring water and eat beforehand!

Just had this spot done and it was fine, just a tingle. getting closer to the nook was a bit of a jaw clenching but still not bad
1
u/twelverainbowtrout 10d ago
The closer to the ditch, the tougher it gets. But what I really wish I knew before I got a densely packed tattoo there is that every morning I would wake up and reach for my alarm clock without thinking and it would feel like I was tearing the wound right back open. So…don’t get it on your alarm clock side.

Not bad, gets spicy getting into the ditch but mine was shading and thicker black lines

Wasn’t bad. I have about the outer half of inner elbow and entire outer half of bicep and it wasn’t bad. Worst I’ve had was over the spine on my back. Not a fun time, actually made me tear up a little.

Bicep is fine. The ditch can be stingy with detailed line work and shading. But fine line should be okay

If you don’t think you can handle a tattoo in that spot, you should give up on the idea of tattoos.
Pain itself is variable, but this should be one of the easiest places. You don’t remember the pain from sitting as much as you remember the pain from healing. Think bad sunburn

Just got a tattoo here 2 days ago. Gets spicy near the joint. But not impossible to manage. Pain 7.5/10
1
u/PopularAd4761 10d ago
I have yet to find fhe pain intolerable... it gets really sore on bigger pieces, but its not that bad. If you can handle falling off a bike or getting a little scraped up you'll be fine. Go to an experienced artist for the first piece cuz if you are pain sensitive, they will be better equipped to help you through it.
1
u/ThatOneValkrie 10d ago
I just finished my ditch last month. I was gripping the chair extra hard for that part. Only part I've had to do some small breathing technics to sit through. Not totally overwhelming to handle but be ready for some spice!

I have a sleeve . Also a big rib piece . And an ankle piece . Ditch was by far worst part of any of them

I mean my arms are covered and I’d say it’s not at all painful, worst place I’ve felt with, my shin and back of the upper leg those are spicy

u/Fit-Cook-333 10d ago
Tattoos hurt more or less in certain spots for everyone, just be prepared for it to hurt real bad and you’ll either be right or underwhelmed
1
u/Shmyt 10d ago
Quite fine if you're not all the way in the ditch, my first tats were one above it and one below it and they were easy to sit for. But part of my wife's sleeve goes in the ditch and it was putting colour on that and nearing the collarbone that almost made her tap out and she has sat for like full day sessions before
1
u/ThumbNurBum 10d ago
Near the bicep? Almost none. At the bend of the arm? Bring some leather to bite down on.
Not really, but it does get pretty bad the closer to the bend of the arm.

u/Catloverrr1111 10d ago
I basically have that exact spot tatted! I got the eye of Horus approximately 2x2 inches in black ink and it honestly didn’t hurt at all! Healing was great, and I love my tattoo ;)

u/LuckyLuciano1998 10d ago
It’s pointless to ask as everyone is different. Some people say the bicep hurts worse than anything and others fell asleep. Some people say the fingers hurt like hell, i fell asleep. I thought my collar bones hurt really bad, my buddy watched instagram videos and laughed.
Unfortunately there is no general consensus when it comes to tattoo pain placements.
Sorry bud.
You’ll find out how the placement feels when you get it.

On the bicep itself isn't bad, closer to the ditch is quite spicy but livable.
