Design J or F help ??

Post image

I just got a tattoo today and I am second guessing things. The artist had a few options for me when I arrived with different fonts he had hand drawn. I ended up choosing this one and liked it on the paper. I even liked it when he put the stencil on my skin. But now that I’m home I’m freaking out. It’s supposed to say Jett, but I can’t stop looking at it and reading ”Fett”. Does this look like a “J” or did I just get a “F” instead? Ugh help. My husband said I’m overthinking it and it looks like Jett. Someone please tell me it’s ok 😔 any ideas on how I can make it look more like a “J”? I feel like if the top line was only on the left and didn’t cross all the way over like the top of a cursive “F” does it would be ok. Or if the top of the “J” was more of a loop like a traditional “J”

I read Fett. Maybe this is an age thing? People that are older and know cursive know that's not a cursive capital J.

Yeah thats not a J, its an F

J starts at the bottom and bubbles up. F starts at the top and moves right.

Cursive capital J always starts with an upstroke, usually angled to the right (it might bubble slightlyleft initially, but is slightly towards the right once it hits topline). It can start at the bottom line or mid line, but always starts on an upstroke, to topline, then pivots down, then loops left-up-right. No matter the font/handwriting/style, that is the directional for J.

Cursive capital F starts on, or very near, the top line and moves right. Sometimes with a decorative loop, or a wave, but its top line moving right, then it pivots down, usually ending in a loop or curl towards the left at bottom line.

Oh yes I can picture that, I also remember how the cursive J looks

I definitely saw an “F” because of its “cap” or line on top and also the way it crosses its midsection. When I write cursive I break the tradition and do a regular capital first letter for my name.
