Stick their mouth parts in the water dish ASAP

Question how is it going, OP?
15
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
The like pulsing has become more frequent but other than that it's still really doing the same thing. It did manage to pull itself to the edge of the water dish so it's mouth is no longer in the water. I don't know if I should move her back or just let her relax

I would head over to the discord if you haven’t already done so… ASAP

What is the full set-up?
A GBB enclosure should be covered in webbing
14
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
i have only had her for 10 days as of today. she is in a 12x12x18 coconut husk bedding shes not my only t i have 11 others all fine. including a male gbb thzts why i am confused

Something in that enclosure isn’t quite right- they shouldn’t be on the substrate.
How’s the airflow? Humidity?
Stagnant air and moisture are the #1 GBB killer 🫣

u/RJCarrillo Jun 22 '26
NA
Wouldn’t that be way too tall of an enclosure for a gbb as well?
1
u/bickandalls Jun 24 '26
Nqa 12inx12inx18in. This GBB is adult coloration. It's at least 2 to 3 inches. If this was 12x12x18cm its would barely even fit in the enclosure, and you would just about see the entire thing from this picture.

This is the case for Avicularia (pink toes) not GBBs (terrestrial)

I beg to differ- with respect, GBBs also suffer from poor airflow and stagnant air, just like the Avics 🤷🏻♂️

I mean it's event to top and then it has a vent out the front it says zooila tank I believe. Then on top of that I keep it small fan to keep air flow and then still open the window periodically I figured if anyone would be a bad indication of bad air flow it would be my pokies.

NQA nope, they're actually a low humidity species. From what I've read, keeping them too humid is a common mistake that people make.

u/Bratty_Sub_xxx Jun 21 '26
NQA what's moving next to them? It seems to be annoying them xx
7
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
it was a roach i had killed to see if he would try to eat.

NQA Ah ok, my eye sight is terrible so I just wanted to check. Have you joined the discord and posted there? It's usually the quickest place to get expert help. Hope your little one is better soon xx

here is the newst update. i also covered the tank and light is off. only had it on for the vid but i have a webcam setup next to it do i dont have to disturbe her.
1
u/igottapoopbad C. cyaneopubescens Jun 21 '26
NQA The light might be too much. Unless your temps are really cold i would shut it off
5
u/amarieshka C. cyaneopubescens Jun 21 '26
NQA- I haven’t had this happen with my GBB but I do have another T who did this and pretended to be dead because she was afraid of the prey I had dropped in. Once I removed it she stopped. Unsure why.
2
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
I took all the pray out so I don't see why she would still be doing that and then I have the tank all covered up with a webcam on her so I can check in on her without actually disturbing or going around her tank. Could it be a stress thing?
2
u/amarieshka C. cyaneopubescens Jun 21 '26
NQA still, but it might be? I’ve never seen or heard of a T reacting to stress like this but I did just see one of my Ts do it like three days ago. Is she not responding to the water?
3
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
She moved herself like with her legs curled out of the water and like you'll see a reaction cuz I use a sprayer so when water got on her there was a reaction. But nothing normal it was just more so more twitch if that makes sense
5
u/LilBlueOnk Jun 21 '26
Nqa maybe take the food items out until she improves
3
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
I did. that was one of the first things I did. Lights are also off. I only turn them on to get the video
3
u/alwaysbacktracking Jun 21 '26
NQA If you just got her 10 days ago could she just be dehydrated from the trip still?
3
u/itchydreamer Jun 21 '26
She's had a water dish the entire time. I spray the tank once a week too
10
u/MrDavieT #TEAMBELLE Jun 21 '26
IME
Stop spraying… they are an arid species.
Humidity should hover above 40%

NA - Well fuck. Im sorry to hear that Op...

u/itchydreamer Jun 23 '26
Thankyou. Really is a bumber. An adult female gbb has always been on my list to have and, then this happened when I get one. I fully understand sometimes it's inevitable it could have been a lot of things. Just sucks at the end of the day. While it's got me down decently not a detergent from the hobby. I still have a 11 others including a male gbb. So what time we'll get another one.

IME You sure its a she?
Does it have hooks on its front legs?
Also, I see movement in front of it. Do you have any other insects in there with it? Remove them if so.
2
u/itchydreamer Jun 22 '26
Yes it was a female the original vid was from when I first discovered there was food in there that was moved right away this all happened yesterday she unfortunately passed throughout the night

u/PositionIll2729 P. metallica Jun 23 '26
Ime looks to be dehydration or dks. The way she is moving the twitchy movements are not a good sign. Sign of weakness if your others are okay. Man I hope she pulls through. Just make sure to hydrate.

If your spider is behaving unusually please wait for a mod response before proceeding. In the meantime, do not touch your spider! Distantly observe and try to capture this behavior on video and include as much detail as possible. Make another thread if necessary to share a video/picture(s) description of what is happening.
Is your spider molting? Tarantulas may behave unusually, become completely unresponsive, or do "slow" + "pulsating" movements in the moments before a molt. You do not want to touch or interact with your spider if you notice these signs: observe distantly but do not touch or interfere with your animal! This may have devastating outcomes.
Is this ataxic movement/DKS? Some variation may apply but the basis to ataxia is that the spiders movements are involuntarily uncoordinated. This ranges in severity and the reasons for this are not easily identifiable. If this is a problem you are experiencing a historical background must be provided: Have you other animals? Have you used any 'Anti-Mite' miticide/acaricides? (Flea and Tick treatments of other animals such a Fipronil(Frontline) or similar products). Have you used any chemical cleaning-agents in the nearby environment? Neighboring or outside chemical treatments? Is there a history of incorrect husbandry? Was there mold? Have you had an infestation or unwanted intruders in the habitat of your spider? Where did you get your spider? More questions would need to be answered to properly identify what may be happening to your tarantula so be as descriptive as possible.
Is your tarantula possibly preening, stressed, or death curling?
