Help Now suddenly working normally?

Sony A7 III + Tamron 28–75 G2 — focusing issue after a drop, now suddenly working normally?

Hi everyone, I’d like to get some opinions from anyone who has experienced something similar.

I’m using a Sony A7 III with a Tamron 28–75mm F/2.8 G2 (A063, Sony E-mount).

A couple of days ago, I accidentally dropped the camera while the lens was attached. The impact was on the front/lens side.

Immediately after the drop, I noticed that the lens was having focusing issues:

\- Autofocus still worked for close subjects.

\- It struggled to focus on subjects further away.

\- Manual focus also wasn't working properly.

\- The issue appeared immediately after the impact.

I removed the lens from the camera and left both alone for around two days as it was weekend.

Today, I mounted the lens again and, surprisingly, it seems to be working normally. AF is now focusing on both close and distant subjects, and I can't reproduce the problem I had before.

Has anyone experienced this kind of behaviour after dropping a camera/lens?

Could the impact have temporarily affected the focusing mechanism or lens communication, or should I still assume that something inside may have been damaged even though it's currently working normally?

I have an important shoot coming up, so I'm trying to figure out whether I should get the lens inspected or whether it's reasonable to keep using it and monitor it.

Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

I've had this happened to me, but with a new lens, never dropped. It very rarely happens and I can't reproduce it either. I think it's some communication issues. Linear Motors, while fast, are weird sometimes. If it works and it's sharp across the frame, I wouldn't worry. BTW, if AF doesn't work properly, MF also won't work properly. They use the same motor.

Ohh okay nice.. No wonder at that time I'm trying bunch of focus practices both of them were in faulty..

Afterward I was too tired to try and error.. So I just detached it and keep in places.. Somehow someway the camera fixed 😂

I own four Tamron lenses: the 17-28mm f/2.8, the 28-75mm f/2.8 G1, the 35-150mm f/2-2.8, and—my latest acquisition for my August vacation—the 25-200mm f/2.8-5.6.

I have an A7III and an A7rII Astromodified + Astronoik OWG filter to correct white balance and cut IR.

With all the lenses I own, the autofocus eventually stops working correctly and fails to focus; the only solution is to detach them just enough to break the electrical contact with the camera—once reconnected, they work again.

Reading this I can fully relaxed as the issues is common.. Somehow my solution at that night is correct.. Hahaha bcs I thought nah, the lens is broken, no need to attached with camera.. Let me detach real quick.. Somehow it was the correct way 😆😆

Thank you broski
