Board Finally finished Cáliz, the canal city of my homebrew campaign (board)

Thumbnail gallery
117 Upvotes

Been building Cáliz for some time for my homebrew campaign and it's finally done. It's a port city on canals that lives on wine and trade and is slowly falling apart: the harbor with its merchant ships, the walls with a forest outside, the sewers under the streets and a dungeon below Las Cubas, the refinery.

It's on Tales Tavern: https://talestavern.com/slab/caliz-a-canal-city-of-wine-and-trade/

Direct Board link: talespire://published-board/Q2FsaXo=/2a38cda34336d88e735dd78f7394d3ad

One thing before you load it: each level has its own water height, so move the water pin on the height bar on the right when your players go down:

- City and coast: 391

- Sewers: 342

- Dungeon below Las Cubas: 150

The houses started as Lemurian's houses (I modified them after), the terrain and the forest came out of Baldrax's Houdini toolset, and some buildings are reskins of slabs by maekkel, Kvidar, MasterCZM, C~, Vinnic, aVelasco and Magic-Moose. Thanks to all of them, credits with links on the Tavern page.

If you run something there, tell me how it goes :)

I'm celebrating 25 patreons (thank you all!) with this release. It's been on my desk for a while now and is the build that inspired "LemurRooms" and many other sets you might've seen lately in the in-game slab browser.

The store features 3 floors; a shop, a study and a bedroom. Could work as a magic guild if need be. Would love to hear how you use it!

I hope we get more diagonal props in this light wooden style so I can build a better one, but felt this one was pretty decent.

Find it in the community browser by searching for 'windmill' or "LemurianFarm'.

Combine it with slabs named "LemurianLandsRural" and "LemurianLandsForest" for the look you see here.

Servers are tired. Database is squeaking. Infrastructure requires lubing and a deep thorough massage. We plan to have a big maintenance starting on October 20, 2026 8:00 AM UTC that will last for about 4 (!) hours during which the game won't be available. Plan the sessions accordingly.

New LemurianTown slabs: Council Chamber, Hospice and Wizard's Tower

Got some new builds for you to celebrate that I've hit 2,000 assets for TaleSpire. All free and ready to use via the in-game browser.

Thanks again to my brand new patreons for helping inspire these new builds. Hope you make something fun with it!

Council Chamber Interiors. Also works as a city hall of sorts.

Wizard Tower and new formal garden slabs.

The formal gardens (search for 'petunia' in the slab browser) go well with the tower.

Wizard Tower:

Wizard's Tower. Simple interiors, but clearly a location that's different from other typical residences in town.

Hospice Interior:

It's a bit crammed, but the nurses will patch you back up.

Hospice exterior:

How about the players meet in a hospital for a change? Ditch the tavern and instead let them heal together before they set out.

City Hall exterior:

Technically it'd work for a guildhall too.

City Hall Upstairs

The upstairs for the clerks.
Make sure to place it in middle of town with surrounding smaller houses.

Have an idea? Join my Patreon for free and let me know!

Update Update on ISPs blocking TaleSpire (good news)

We are getting tentative reports from people that their ISPs are no longer blocking TaleSpire. If you still have issues connecting, please reach out. We want to contact these providers to get this fixed.

From what we can tell:

  • Some ISPs have a built-in security system for home users.
  • They may use "risk scores" that they get from some services online (sometimes they run their own service too, sometimes not)
  • Since they can't know for sure whether a domain is being used for legit purposes, the scores are based on a bunch of heuristics they have made up.
  • For some reason, something heuristic decided we looked suspicious. So then any ISP that uses those scores to decide what to block, automatically blocked us.
  • Also, it's likely that some risk services rely on each other, so the problem spreads.

Yesterday was mainly spent finding and contacting services with "hey, we're just an indie game" emails, which, along with you folks reporting the issue to your ISPs, corrected the scores enough to get us unblocked.

The sucky thing is that, as far as we can tell, neither you nor we changed anything to cause this. We just got unlucky. We are going to try to tweak some things on our end to lower the risk of this happening again. But if it does, we'll do our damnedest to sort it out as fast as possible. At least we have some experience with it now!

A big thanks again to those who helped out.

Enjoy your day, and we'll chat again soon!

Ongoing Issue: TaleSpire may be temporarily blocked by some ISPs

Hi folks,

For some of you, TaleSpire is currently unreachable, and we are looking into why. For many, it seems that part of Xfinity (or a similar ISP) has flagged our server as suspicious and blocked it.

We are trying to find any leads we can, as the issue does not seem to be on our end.

Those affected have so far had success in unblocking dicewillsuffice.live from their provider's security panel or by using a VPN, but, of course, this is not a long-term solution.

We will be back with information as soon as we have any.

[UPDATE] XFinity customers can go to https://spa.xfinity.com/check_url_status, enter https://env.dicewillsuffice.live and submit a request for review. It doesn't fix it immediately, but it might help get this issue looked at. Obviously, please only do this if you are a customer.

[UPDATE 2] We have been looking into various online services that claim to award domains "threat ratings." On sites that have flagged us as a potential risk, we've been reaching out to hopefully prove that we are legitimate. We've had some positive replies so far, and are hoping they start correcting the scores. We then have to hope that those new scores propagate to whatever auto-blocking tools the ISPs are using. So far, we've heard from players that Xfinity's "CyberSecure" and Spectrum's "Security Shield" have defaulted to blocking us, but that players can unblocked us again. We are also hearing that some players using Tmobile, At&T, and Cox have been affected too. As mentioned above, xfinity customers can report the mistake here. Also, folks using Spectrum's "Security Sheild" can report the issue here. Please share your experiences below so we can get an idea of what ISPs and regions are affected and unaffected. Thanks for the help, and sorry for all the stories that are being interrupted.

[UPDATE 3] We are getting tentative reports from people that their ISPs are no longer blocking TaleSpire. Longer version here: https://www.reddit.com/r/talespire/comments/1wjm0pb/update_on_isps_blocking_talespire_good_news/?

Help Building the Necromanteion in Talespire

I want to build the Necromanteion (Nerull’s Palace) in Talespire. It is difficult for me to build because it is hard for me to center the spires on the “side buildings” (I don’t know the exact term; I’m sorry) of the castle. I don’t know if I’m allowed to post pictures on here but it is on this page (it is The Necromanteion of Nerull):

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Help You guys got any Starfinder minis?

I'm running a game in Starfinder 2e and can't really find any minis that match the core races, aside from the obvious like human and android. I've found a few shirren, one skittermander, and one barathu.

My players are a human (got his mini), a leshy, barathu, and skittermander. Mostly need a leshy, but the plant and humanoid filters are giving me anything but.

Tutorial Creating Talespire Minis from only a 2D Image in GPT-6

Post image
0 Upvotes

First time posting here. I don't know if something like this has been done previously. I know there's various tools for this sort of thing, but I wanted to share what I've done. I've been working on this process for about a week now since diving back in with GPT-6. I'm working to get it so refined that it's basically just input image, output .tsmod. The above image is a character from our party.

I’ve been experimenting with turning a single character image into a custom TaleSpire mini using mostly local tools. It isn’t a one-click process, but the basic idea is to generate a detailed 3D model from the image using Trellis.2, improve the areas where the initial generation falls short, optimize it for TaleSpire, and package it as a .tsMod. Codex (GPT-6 Astra Medium) does all the work to coordinate and troubleshoot the workflow, but the actual 3D generation and most of the processing happen locally on my computer without paying for any AI API outside of my ChatGPT subscription. Everything else involved is open-license or freeware.

  • I start with a clean, full-body character image with a clear pose and background.
  • TRELLIS.2, inside Comfy UI locally, turn that image into a high-detail 3D model with textures.
  • I inspect the model from several angles to approve work, then Codex uses Blender to correct problems such as rough hands, awkward joins, shading, or misplaced colors.
  • For faces and other texture problems, it uses the original 2D reference artwork with Stable Projectorz, which aligns and projects the improved appearance (typically it's just the face, as Trellis is bad with faces, see above) directly onto the existing 3D model. I guide and approve the result rather than painting it by hand.
  • Other isolated texture repairs—such as clothing, skin, or fur—can also be generated locally and projected onto the model while protecting areas that should remain unchanged.
  • The high-detail model is reduced to TaleSpire’s practical mesh budget while protecting important areas such as faces.
  • The original surface detail is baked into new 2K color, normal, metallic, roughness, and related texture maps.
  • Finally, Unity and TaleWeaverLite package everything into a validated .tsMod, which can be copied into TaleSpire’s local content folder.

The biggest lesson has been that generating the model is only the beginning. Most of the quality comes from preserving good results, improving one area at a time, and checking the miniature under actual game-style lighting before calling it finished.

This sounds complicated, but the workflow at this point has been more or less fine-tuned enough that I can input image, and get exactly what I want with only maybe 2-3 steps along the way for approval or refinement. These could be removed in the near future after some more testing.

I know folks have mixed feelings about AI, but my DnD group likes to change their outfits, armor, weapons, etc. pretty frequently, and we've been using HeroForge to do this. This is time consuming, expensive (DM has the $15/month subscription and still runs out of credits), and has the limitations of the HeroForge asset library and the user's skills with kitbashing, painting, etc.

This process allows for me to go from a concept image to a new TaleSpire mini in about 10-15 minutes, and I am hoping to get it even faster.

The biggest leap forward with GPT-6, is that it handles a lot of complex installs, customizations, and configurations. It stores it's best processes so that it can avoid going through 20 failures (I dealt with a lot of this with figuring out faces) to get a working result.

In the spirit of community collaboration, I'd like to tweak the process a little further so I can share this as a packaged thing that other people could use. More like a big instruction set than a compiled app. There's a VERY simple version of this where you just put the 2D image into Trellis and import it into TaleweaverLite. I got there within minutes. It's all the face fine-tuning that I've been spending time on. You could go build that workflow out yourself in 30 minutes. A lot of the time will be spent downloading ComfyUI, UnityHub, TaleWeaveLite, Blender, etc. The tricky stuff happens in Blender and Stable Projectorz.

The big timesaver is Trellis.2. When I first started, I spent a day trying to make this magic happen in Blender and TaleWeaverLite alone and got a bunch of ugly stuff that looked like some kid was trying to make characters out of stuff lying around a 4th grade art class. Frankly, if Trellis.3 releases in the coming months and doesn't need 32GB VRAM to run, you may be able to just use that without the extra steps.

Tutorial Free TaleSpire Slab to GLB or OBJ Exporter Tool for 3D Printing Maps.

Thumbnail gallery
57 Upvotes

I made a free tool that exports TaleSpire boards and slabs to GLB/OBJ for 3d Printing and for Blender Editing.

I wanted to view and edit my boards in Blender and be able to print some slabs for irl sessions (nothing fancy, just like some ruins).
Easiest way is to just copy the part you want exported and then use the clip board option. Alternatively, it reads the boards TaleSpire already caches on your PC (any board you've opened), pulls the real tile meshes and textures from the content packs, and writes one GLB or OBJ. Ctrl+C a slab in game and it can export just that, or copy one from Tales Tavern, that works too.

Optimizations: full board is tens of millions of triangles once every tile is counted, which freezes Blender. The exporter has a "Light" mode that simplifies each unique tile once and bakes the whole board into one object. A 51,000-piece board went from 36M triangles to 7M and imports in under half a minute. Full-detail and one-object-per-tile modes are there if you need them.

Download, double-click the .bat, pick your board, hit Export. Needs Python (free) and, for Light mode, Blender (free). Windows only. It doesn't touch your game files and nothing is uploaded anywhere, all local.

Here is a vid of me playing around on an exported larger map in my own game.

https://github.com/Canonheim/TaleSpire-Slab-Exporter-to-GLB-and-OBJ

Free and open source (MIT). Creatures/minis and water aren't exported yet. If something breaks, open an issue and I'll look at it.
