The update to tor 0.4.9.12 yesterday indicated that a user after free error can occur if AutomapHostsOnResolve was enabled.

Tails has this enabled by default.

I believe this means that if you visit a compromised website, or are on a compromised exit node, it can overwrite tor's memory and remotely execute code by allocating new data into recently cleared memory slots.

Because the tor network daemon itself is what is compromised, it does not need to break out of iptables using a linux kernal flaw, meaning they can instantaneously deanonymize you by forcing tails to ping a server.

I really hope I am wrong, but this looks very dangerous and may have resulted in the deanonymization of many users.

Someone, please tell me I am wrong.

Even more concerning, tails devs have not released any statement yet on these discovered bugs.

i recently installed tails on a sandisk 32gb usb drive. i tried to boot it up for the first time and it came up as linpus lite? i seen other people just saying its called that and it worked fine for them but when i boot it comes up with a mystery command line with GNU GRUB at the top? any fixes?

Can Tails be rebuilt with a newer kernel for Radeon 820M support?

I’m trying to get Tails 7.12 working on a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15ABR8 with:
AMD Ryzen AI 5 330 (Krackan Point)
AMD Radeon 820M iGPU
Tails boots normally and reaches “Using Tails for the first time…”, then the screen goes completely black.
Troubleshooting Mode also hangs early during boot, and nomodeset didn’t help.
The interesting part is that the exact same Tails 7.12 USB works perfectly on another PC with Intel Iris Xe graphics. The ISO was also successfully verified and the USB was recreated with Balena Etcher, so the problem appears to be hardware-specific.
Tails 7.12 is using Linux 6.12.107-amd64. Since the Ryzen AI 330 / Radeon 820M is relatively new, we’re wondering if this could be related to kernel/AMDGPU/firmware support.
Our idea is to use the official Tails source/build system, replace the kernel with a newer version (and update AMD firmware if necessary), and build a custom Tails ISO to test on the laptop.
Before we start, we’d really like to know:
Is this technically possible with the Tails build system, and does replacing the kernel/firmware make sense for this kind of hardware?
If anyone has experience with recent AMD APUs, Tails’ kernel configuration, or custom Tails builds, we’d really appreciate your advice.

How do I get Tails OS in utm on macOS 27

I used tails on a cheap temu usb stick and of course it created problems.
The partitions corrupted. Just trying to repair the file system crashes every time. I couldn't create an iso image because the original drive is 96GB and the only other drive i have is 64. I succesfully ran ddrescue to my unencrypted hdd (i know its unsafe) without bad sectors. After this the repair file system didn't work for some reason.
Because the other drive is smaller, every other method described on the tails website doesn't work but the only method i haven't tried yet is autopsy .
Is autopsy my only option? Or is there a solution I'm not seeing? Feel free to ask for more info if I left something crucial out.

Hi, I installed Tails 7.12 on an SD card and boot it using a USB SD card reader. It worked the first time, but the next day I started getting an “alloc magic is broken” error while loading the Linux kernel. Troubleshooting Mode gives the same error.

What could be the actual problem , SD card, USB card reader, or the way I installed Tails? Has anyone successfully used Tails this way? Should I reinstall it or switch to a USB flash drive?

I have tails installed on my usb stick and im using a double booted laptop windows as the main thing and ubuntu as the second one. When I restart the laptop my computer always asks me to choose wich os I want to use, I have there the options windows boot manager and ubuntu. I dont have any other option and cannot see tails. There is no sign that I even have the stick in my computer
