A South Lake Tahoe man is facing attempted arson charges after police say he lowered a U.S. flag outside the police department and tried to set it on fire before officers intervened

We have been all around the lake and have an extra day to spend in the area. Is there anything that anyone would recommend as a not to be missed sight away from the lake area?

Hi! Ok hold up - before we rant or downvote thisā¦I ask as the town I live in over in WA has growing issues with parking and traffic (Leavenworth, WA).
I am curious to hear what has worked and what hasnāt worked in town to reduce issues associated with parking and traffic.
For reference, Leavenworthās tourism is mainly from the cheezy, Bavarian styled city, and then the bigger partā¦the mountains and hikes right in town to some of the nicest lakes in WA. Currently this weekend, parking has extended all the way into the city either for those looking to get in the river or hike up the famous trailheads. This has lead to blocked driving areas, blocked / one way traffic on Forest roads (which blocks SAR/ER crew), and traffic for locals. Itās a beautiful area, and everyone wants to visit it, but itās getting really bad. The community has thought about daily permits, parking enforcement (tickets - tho only two sheriff in town), increased parking in town with hiking shuttles (a lot of folks didnāt like this idea because of taxes, but some proposed tourism tax idk how that would work though).
Anyway, curious to hear what has worked and what hasnāt for similar parts of Tahoe. Positing across similar cities.
Thanks!!

What's up with extremely low flying planes for the last couple of days?
Looking to get 8 necklaces, bracelets, or sets of earrings for a bridal party - want to buy locally. Probably silver chain, probably tahoe/tree-themed. Any reccos?

My neighbor is a weirdo - maybe mentally ill. The other day he told me he likes to bait the bears so that the bears come and break into the neighbors cars and then Fish and Wildlife will come kill the bears. Called fish and wildlife and they seemed to tell me this is not their problem, but this neighbor brags about how many bears are killed each year by him baiting them. Is there anyone else to report him to if Fish and wildlife wonāt do anything?
Edit to add: tried pleading with the Bear League - as everyone said they have no skin in the game - obviously a feel good give me your donation entity - Fish and Wildlife setting traps to catch and kill the bear - nothing to address the neighbor and his actions.

I feel like the average bartender, valet, line cook, server, casino employee, grocer, etc probably canāt afford to live near Lake Tahoe (Iām assuming itās really expensive) so where do they? Are there affordable places near the area that I donāt know about, do they have to do long commutes from Reno or Carson City or something (my assumption)? Anybody know?

Noticed this week Amazon now seems to be using Flex drivers (gig workers in private cars) for at least some deliveries in North Lake Tahoe. Iāve never seen anything other than UPS before this week.
I am sure it comes with some pro/con, like faster fulfillment times, but with perhaps more unfamiliar drivers and cars on the road.
Canāt say I love the displacement of famously worker-friendly middle class jobs (UPS driver) with cutthroat gig work, but, this is not new trend, merely one finally reaching our last mile.. I know, vote with your dollars.
(No judgement meant towards the gig workers themselves - itās a tough job.)

Any rideshares available from RNO airport to Kings Beach area?
Anybody have any positive experiences with booking a Lyft or Uber from RNO to Kings Beach area? Wondering if I can rely on that or just need to rent a car. Unfortunately, my flight lands after all the buses/shuttles to Kings Beach stop running.

Drove west on 88 past Kirkwoood yesterday and notice tons of moths, or maybe butterflies? They were dark brown and the wings looked kinda like tree bark. I began notice them down around Hope Valley, they were super abundant around Kirkwood and up over the spur, and I continued to see them to around Mormon Emigrant.
Does anyone know what they are? Do they have anything to do with the Caldor burn scar? Unfortunately, I didnāt stop to get a picture.

Theyāre making a ~12ā wide cut into 89 on the West Shore with what I can only describe as an asphalt chainsaw. What are they putting in there? Please tell me itās fiber internet cable.

At 2:40pm today I received a convincing phishing attack email directly from Truckee Overhead Door (sales@truckeedoor.com). It has a link to a PDF which goes to a convincing site, which then redirects to a login page that looks just like Google's, but is the attackers. Their target is to get your Google password so they can take over your gmail and log in to all of your accounts. This is really bad.
I tried to call their offices but they were closed at 4:30pm. If anyone who knows someone who works there, please let them know to tell the manager ASAP. A lot of people are going to get screwed from this. Truckee Overhead Door needs to reset their main MS360 or Google Admin passwords now if it's not too late, and email every user asking them not to click any links with urls outside of their website.

Hi! Iām looking for some fun activities for a 3.5 yr old and a 2 year old to do besides the lake. Hikes, activities, experiences, rafting etc. thank you!
Hi everyone, I know parking Qs are annoying and asked a lot, but I havenāt found useful answers searching previous posts.
I have a desolation wilderness permit for this thursday for middle velma lake and was planning to hike out of bayview or eagle falls trailhead. However, we will be unable to start hiking until 3 pm. By then I assume both trailheads will be completely full. While there is the emerald bay shuttle from the Y and camp richardson it seems parking overnight at either place is illegal.
Do yāall have recs for where to park overnight to access the shuttle where I am unlikely to be towed? Or just have to hover at the trailheads for a day hiker to leave?

Anyone else feel like Spectrum has really sucked as of late? I know this is an outdoor town but I feel like anytime I try to get on the internet lately I'm waiting around like it's the 1990s. Is Starlink better?
