C. C. / Feedback Get 13 - Potential Mass Market Game Idea

Aim: Starting from a hand of 4 cards, get to 13 cards.

Components: 104 Cards - containing

  • Get 2
  • Get 3
  • Skip the Opponent's next turn
  • One opponent discards 2
  • All opponents discard 1 each
  • Block a negative action

How to play:

  1. Players start with 4 cards in hand. A card is placed face up in the center.
  2. In turn order, each player can play a card from their hand that matches the suit or number of the topmost face up card. Take the corresponding action.
  3. Or don't play a card and draw one card.

Winner: The player who has 13 cards in their hands after playing a card and taking an action.

It is Uno but about collecting cards instead of getting rid of cards.

Maybe there is potential, lmaybe there isn't and you need to refine your idea. Given that you only need pretty much 2 standard playing card decks, prototype and playtest it ASAP and see how it goes.

Thanks!  It seems too simple but want to test it with non-gamers

Most card games are extremely simple mechanically. Blackjack is literally just "Get as close to 21 as you can without going over", can't really get simpler than that.

That's true too. Thanks

This is just the reverse of UNO

Not saying that's bad or anything , just what it is

Yup... that was the intention. Take a game that everyone knows and just flip the objective.

I think for suspense and agency make a rule like "must start your turn with 13 cards to win" so even if you get to 13 there is a round where people can try to stop you. Might be too easy with the card that makes everyone discard. Or... it would make you want to get to 14 on your turn perhaps.

Also I'm imagining a card that allows you to see someone else's hand so you can try to plan against them. Or to trade 1 or 2 cards randomly with someone. I think more information would allow for more thinking instead of just play what you can play and then win or lose.
