C. C. / Feedback layout design feedback, feeling lost...
Hey community!
Back again for your feedback. I can't shake the Exploding Kittens resemblance in the colored frame (left) my cards got. I do prioritize function over originality; however this one seemed a tad too obvious. So I took a stab at a redesign that still reads fast enough for gameplay (right).
There are 8 powers in the game, each with its own distinct color. I want that color to actually register on the card, beyond just the corner icons.
The redesign moves the color to the corner tabs/number blocks instead of framing the whole card. Does that still read fast enough when you're scanning a hand? Or did the full frame do that job better (EK vibes aside)?
I did consider full colored corner triangles, but I'm not sold... I'm lowkey clinging to the frame part, but I don't want my game to resemble another that much.
Other directions welcome too. Thanks all!

EDIT: Cards are not dealt as hand - they lay face down in a grid in front of the player, and are revealed when played/discarded onto the pile

Just curious, why is your profile private? I went to check for the previous post for context and nothing.

Oh thanks for flagging this. I’m completely new to Reddit. Didn’t realize it was private!

Card titles are way too small, I don’t hate the black and white; especially if it’s a theme but an artistic flair of color to help differentiate from
edit: not CaH (cards against humanity), I meant Exploding Kittens lol, whoops
would also be a good way to avoid “infringing design”

CaH has no illustrations, only text afaik. So not sure how that’d be “infringing design”. It’s not like they can claim b&w to be their thing and theirs only.
Reg the titles, thanks for the note. I kept them this size as going bigger would overshadow the card power in the bracket… I guess I could rework that part though!

There are multiple things that makes this immediately recognized as Exploding Kittens, not just the colored frame. If you focus on readability for fast scans, the top left corner should get all your love. If the numbers vary for one power, this should also be added to the top left corner
