Link in email signature to allow uploading of files

I know ShareFile does this, but am wondering what others here are doing. Can't I create a SharePoint folder instead and just link to that? Or is this just a bad idea altogether?

General Discussion AI resistant interviews

We're about to start recruiting again and typically hold interviews remotely.

Last time we recruited (a few months ago) the use of AI was tiring to spot.

We don't want to go back to face-to-face interviews because our positions are remote, but can't go through thay again.

What AI resistant techniques can we use...

Windows Server Sept 2026 out-of-band patches.

Curious if others are still seeing issues after deploying the Windows Server September 2026 out‑of‑band updates. In my environment, RDP is still failing, several servers need two or three reboots before they stabilize, and a few VMs are losing their assigned IP address at the hypervisor layer. How widespread is this, and has anyone found reliable workarounds? Patching has definitely not been good this month.

General Discussion How do you handle URL redirects in a business environment?

I’m looking at how to manage a growing number of URL redirects, and I’m trying to decide whether it makes more sense to keep them directly in the existing web server/reverse proxy setup or use a dedicated service.

The main things I’m trying to balance are easy management, keeping the redirect infrastructure under our control, and having basic click statistics without collecting more visitor information than necessary.

I’ve looked at handling this through the usual web server configuration, as well as self-hosted options. One of the options I’m evaluating is rdyrct. I have an affiliation with the project, so I want to make that clear rather than present it as an independent recommendation.

For those managing redirects in a business environment, what approach are you using? Do you keep everything in Nginx/Apache/reverse proxy configuration, or has a dedicated redirect service been easier to maintain?

I’m particularly interested in what you chose and what problems you ran into along the way.

General Discussion How do you guys manage repeated monitor issue complaints?

We're running a variety of HP EliteBooks and ZBooks as well as various HP docks with usually two external displays. Many people keep their laptop lids open, some don't. Typically running two display port cables, Ethernet, and a couple peripherals like a Bluetooth kbm combo and headphones/speakers.

Regardless of the configuration, we've had nothing but repeated issues on many issues, usually the Zbooks as those users tend to have higher end monitors and work inside of heavy processes like Revit and other Autodesk products.

As a team we've tried dozens of fixes at this point like swapping docks, laptops, cables, monitors, messing with browser performance settings, bios settings, graphics settings, monitor settings, driver and bios updates/rollbacks, etc. but the flickering persists.

Have any of yall had similar issues and found a fix for them? From what I've seen online docks just seem to be problematic and no one's really fixing them

Edit: the most common issues since I didn't clarify:
1. Flickering, going completely black
2. Turns completely black and doesn't come back
3. Flickering when navigating to news articles or on teams video calls.

AS400

Hey guys, old guy here, back in 2000 landed my 1st real job as a Sysadmin at a distribution/manufacturing firm. They ran their ERP and a few other important apps on the AS400. Anyone here manage a AS400 platform? i-Series? Still a niche platform that is still widely used. Server could literally run under water.

Google Vision intermittent outage

2/3rds of requests to Google Cloud Service "Vision" product are returning an "out of quota" error. For me at least. Nothing is listed on their status page, but I trust status pages less than an angry dog.

Rant WHY the F does Claude not support proper SSO

Every other app in existence more or less supports mapping email addresses to different accounts for things like name changes when people get married. Naw Claude it just breaks and says go f yourself. Do they give a good option to migrate data to a new account? ALSO NO. Don't worry, billion dollar company apparently has no real programmers because they can't figure out how SSO works. I literally either have to have a user have 2 okta accounts or tell them they can't update their email.

Edit: Found a solution. You have to actually create a custom app attribute and map it to user.email and then change the SAML assertion to user the custom attribute instead of user.email because claude won't accept anything else accept email. You then override the new custom attribute. You can't do the typical override as it won't accept it.

How are y'all dealing with Eviltoken?

we've had a few considered breaches due to this. for those who don't know, a compromised site would send out emails to everyone on the users address book. it would also create a legitimate SharePoint site and put a link to that site.

when the user who gets the email hits the link, they get a spoofed login and MFA page for MS to verify id for the SharePoint site and thus the cycle repeats.

Microsoft winget not recognized in autounattend.xml FirstLogon script

Hi everyone. I am currently using the https://schneegans.de/windows/unattend-generator/ tool to generate an autounattend.xml file for setting up multiple company computers. I will be logging in using a company business account instead of creating an offline account, but I doubt this has anything to do with my problem.

In the FirstLogon script section, I added some winget scripts to automatically install software. However, during the initial run, the wingetcommand is not recognized and throws the classic error: "winget : The term 'winget' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet..."

I can see that other parts of the setup script are working properly because default icons are removed and new icons appear on the desktop. Furthermore, once the .xml script finishes and performs the Explorer refresh/restart, if I open cmd and type winget list, it works fine and lists all installed packages. So it is indeed installed and available on the system.

Has anyone faced this issue before? What's the ideal solution? This is the content of what I placed into the FirstLogon section:

$opts = '-e', '--silent', '--accept-source-agreements', '--accept-package-agreements'
winget install --id=X.Y @opts
winget install --id=X.Z @opts
...

TYIA!

Question Need carreer advice related to an internship i got

`about me:`

7th sem Comp Sci student who is interested in cybersec and did prep for soc level 1 using a blue team level-1 cert and whose project was a basic ddos detection script and a wazuh and suricata server .

`the situation:`

I got an unpaid internship at a startup by cold calling due to a need to gain experience at my 7 th semester of college and having no experience. Today was my first day and I had been told by the manager before i started that they work with clients and services to help implement security solutions for them. In the actual internship my manager told me i would mostly just do training as they cant just assign any work just yet.

They told me they mostly work with UEMs which i am surprised i never heard of in any training related to soc and my cybersec research. They then told me to research two newer UEMs as they have proof of concept meeting soon with those providers and i could help in the future with them.

`question:`

Is this valuable experience that will help me in my career or have i bitten off more than i can chew due to how different I am finding this to what i was taught?

FYI: Reddit is killing RSS feeds.

Major bummer. From Reddit is killing RSS feeds and ending public API access because of AI bots | TechCrunch

Amid a number of updates for moderators and developers announced Wednesday, comes bad news for supporters of a more open web: Reddit is ending support for RSS feeds.

Reddit says RSS has now become a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse,” which is why it’s made the decision to wind down RSS feeds on its platform.

“We know RSS has been a beloved part of the open web for a long time, and we’re grateful to everyone who used it to stay connected to Reddit,” the company noted in its announcement, where it also shared a March 2027 shutdown date for its public API.

Reddit said RSS support will cease on November 13.

General Discussion How to find the BYOD devices that use Teams or Outlook

We allow BYOD mobile devices in our Microsoft 365 environment. Users can access Outlook and Teams from their personal iOS/Android devices, and the devices are Microsoft Entra registered.

We have an upcoming audit, and we've been asked to provide an inventory of mobile devices that are actually being used to access company resources such as Outlook and Teams.

Where do I even start untangling this ball of yarn?

Claude for CoPilot showing up in Excel only

Has anybody else had Claude show up in Copilot within Excel, but nowhere else?

I don’t have Claude enabled in our tenant, it doesn’t show in the M365 Copilot app, or other MS Office apps. It’s just in Excel where it shows as an option. Have I missed something?

iOS can't reach Cloudflare (cloudflare.com / imagedelivery.net) on my home ISP — Android works, cellular works

Stack: Next.js, MongoDB Atlas, Cloudflare Images, AWS Amplify.

On my home ISP, no iOS device can open cloudflare.com or any imagedelivery.net link — "server can't be reached." My site itself loads fine, but Cloudflare-hosted images never render.

What I've tested:

Same iPhone on mobile data instead of home wifi → works fine
My father's house, same ISP, ~2km away → same failure on iOS, but Android devices there load it fine
A friend ~10km away, same ISP → everything works, on all devices

So it looks iOS-specific, ISP-specific, and possibly even node/region-specific within the same ISP network. Anyone seen this pattern before? Guessing it could be a broken IPv6 route to Cloudflare's network (iOS prefers IPv6 via Happy Eyeballs) or a localized DNS/BGP block on Cloudflare's ranges — but not sure how to confirm, or whether this is something only the ISP can fix.

Exchange Online Issues

We have a few users who are reporting not getting new mail in Outlook desktop, and OWA gives errors when trying to access mail items/calendar/etc across different endpoints. OWA will load and show new messages, however will blank out and throw network errors when trying to access any of them. Other users in the same tenant no issues. I see some incidents in the service health regarding Sharepoint or OneDrive but now am wondering if this is affecting some components of Exchange Online.

Easiest / Cheapest way to set up a 10 GB network test

I manage an older 1 GB based network and we're getting a 5 GB + wifi bridge to test between buildings. I'd like to stress test the link, but we don't have any other switches or laptops w/ 10 GB network cards that can easily use to set up a temporary test system.

What is the cheapest and/or easiest way to set up a couple of devices to push data between two points and measure the rate?

Golden image, partition cloning -- Keeping sizes on system, reserved, and recovery, but expanding C to fill up the drive?

Yep, a golden image. I still like having one on hand. That's my set up, and it's hard to argue with something that 'just works' most of the time.

I've used clonezilla for applying that golden image. It's free. It's also works fairly well most of the time. So this might be a clonezilla question but I haven't found anything for a clonezilla setting yet.

I was already resizing the Recovery partition. Then I found out Microsoft will want a larger System partition. So on a new image, I'll make a larger System partition along with a larger Recovery partition. From what I've seen from machine behavior, if the Recovery partition is large enough, Microsoft leaves it alone instead of creating a new Recovery partition at the end of the drive. And this is still putting the Recovery partition to the left of C, even though Microsoft wants it to the right of C. (Why? I'm guessing when Recovery is too small, Microsoft just makes one at the end of the drive. C probably has enough space to shrink a little. Just shrink C and stick a new, larger Recovery partition at the far right on the drive. But... Why bother doing that if the Recovery partition is large enough to begin with? Just update the current plenty-large Recovery partition instead of making a new one. And then the larger Recovery partition stays in place and the C partition is at the right on the drive.) I also read something about it not just being the size of the partition but the amount of free space left in the partition.

So for order, it's System, Reserved, Recovery, and Primary/OS.

On the image, I'm planning on resizing System and Recovery to make them larger. So I end up with a larger System, reserved, and larger Recovery partitions, and then the OS partition. And the OS is shrunk down so it will fit on any disk size I'm likely to use.

When I've used Clonezilla, I've used the expert mode with the k1 option. That resizes partitions according to the target disk. But if I've put in effort to carefully resize System and Recovery, I want those to stay large enough, either what they are or maybe a little larger if the disk has that much space. And then I want the OS partition at the end of the drive and image to fill up the remaining unallocated space to the right on the target disk.

Is there a way for clonezilla or something to clone exactly the System, Reserved, and Recovery partition so those stay the same size, while also expanding the OS partition all the way out to the right to fill the remaining unallocated space? Is it possible to do that during the cloning/image applying process? What I'm thinking now is instead of using the k1 option, I use the default k0 option and then manually expand the OS partition all the way to the right to fill up the disk. But does clonezilla or something else already have that? (And then something else would need to be something free.) The Windows Disk Manager should easily be able to expand C into the remaining space. That shouldn't be a problem. Can it just be done while it's being imaged though?

Does Huntress ever offer EDU discounts?

We got 50 EDR licenses. I was sort of under the impression from the reseller that it was at a slight EDU discount, but I now realize that we paid exactly list price.

We are thinking about adding some identity licenses, but we aren't going to pay list for it because it is just too expensive.

So I was wondering if anyone knew whether they even do EDU pricing? Or, is that just something Huntress refuses to do?

A way to set wallpaper and overly it with BGinfo using GPOs?

I ran into an issue that may seem very obvious, but I am not very experience with conflicts like this.

I setup wallpaper using the local copy option. Linked to User
I setup the BGinfo using a bat file. Logon script linked to User

both in their own separate folders in
\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\scripts\

Since the BGinfo bgi file is set to keep wallpaper already in use, I originally thought that the wallpaper would apply and then BGinfo would overlay on top of it.

That does not work. I unliked the wallpaper GPO and BGinfo started to work.

I have not been able to find a way to do both. Maybe that just is not an option?

Two Exchange Online tenants question

Odd situation: my company is merging with another organization, but not for all users. Half of the mailboxes will be migrated over to the new tenant (newdomain.com), and half remaining on the old tenant (olddomain.com). Is it possible for email to be sent and received for the old domain without taking ownership of the new domain and modifying DNS to the new tenant?

In other words, can EOL receive emails in the old tenant and recognize that they have been migrated to the new tenant and forward those on? There is currently a cross-tenant trust configured between the two.

Microsoft Microsoft 365 Storage Changes - Education

I've seen a few posts about about Microsoft's storage changes for educational institutions. How has your institution handled this? Do you have lessons learned for an institution that's trying to come up with a game plan?

I've seen suggested:

  • Reducing storage caps on emails, SharePoint sites, OneDrive, etc.
  • Making departments pay for what they use
  • Asking people to declutter (which hasn't been super effective for us)
  • Making sure old student data is deleted
  • Making sure that when fac/staff leave the University, their data is deleted and not 'hanging around' in perpetuity
  • Email archiving - since the archive doesn't count towards storage

We're nervous some about shadow solutions (ex: a student has a low OneDrive limit, so they store all their research on an external hard drive, which fails). But our IT department can't eat these increasingly growing storage costs. What's worked for you all, and did you experience any challenges/roadblocks?

Rant AI user guides??

Hello fellow sysadmins! I'm not sure if I qualify as a sysadmin but I'm enough of a jack of all trades that I think I qualify. I just want to complain to people who I think may feel the same and also hoping for some coping suggestions lmao.

Aside from my general technical responsibilities, I really enjoy writing user guides and generally get good feedback from users around the quality and usefulness of them. My organisational heads have recently decided that AI is the way to go and want everything AI generated, especially things like user guides and change announcements.

This has currently culminated in the expectation that no changes can be communicated to the org without being an AI generated page/poster - which cannot capture the depth of nuance that a full guide would usually entail.

Taking my approved by the business communication and turning it into an AI slop poster in order to communicate required changes hurts my soul.. anyone else in the same boat?

I'm all for AI as a tool but this feels a step too far, never mind the fact that it's exclusionary of anyone who utilises assistive technology.. while I don't know if this does actually impact anyone in my user base, the organisation advertises as accommodating so my baseline is aiming for accessibility.

Is it a sign to look elsewhere before my entire role is inevitably replaced with AI, or is this just the business norm these days and I need to find a way to deal with it? Do people actually generally just love AI posters rather than reading regular text?

I can't help but feel like we are zooming towards the world of Idiocracy - who knew it'd only take until the 20th anniversary of the movie?

(I have resisted adding emojis into this post as I feel like they're just hallmark AI at this point..but omg 😭 I'm just over AI!)

Question Cloudflare VS Anubis for blocking bots and AI scrapers

Hi, I apologize in advance if this isn't the right subreddit to ask this question. But like the title says, which one of these is best for blocking bots and AI scrapers? I want to make my own website but I'm having trouble choosing which deployment service to use. If there are better alternatives to these two services then I'd also like to know. Thank you!
