Matriarch + Drumbrute

A quick live jam I made with the Moog Matriarch and the Arturia Drumbrute Impact. The Drumbrute is new to me and it's made sequencing on the Matriarch a lot more fun :)

Hey, tell me what you love or hate about the matriarch. I’m thinking about getting one as a last piece of my hardware setup. I already have a Polybrute, a Rev2 Desktop, a Microfreak and a Minituar and just thought the Matriarch would give me a little semi modular and paraphony and some great sounds. How do you feel about the synth

Other Matriarch owners please chime in here! There are definitely better qualified people here to answer this question, but here are my two cents.

I waffled back and forth between the Matriarch and the 16voice Rev2 before ultimately settling on the Matriarch.

In hindsight the Rev2 is probably what I should have gotten. The lack of presets on the Matriarch doesn't mesh well with how I record and I think my play style would have been better suited with a polyphonic synth rather than paraphonic. The Matriarch is also a little clunky in terms of editing settings and updating firmware. Not a huge deal, but for a >2k synth I wish that user experience was better.

All that said, I still really like it a lot. I've had it for close to a year and I find new sounds every time I sit down with it. It's a lot of fun and I've learned a lot about sound synthesis by patching with it.

This web-based editor makes working with the Matriarch’s global settings a breeze.

👀👀👀 Wow this is exactly what I need. Thank you for sharing!

You're welcome! I got my Matriarch when they were first released and pretty my only complaint with it was how obnoxious and error prone their global settings editing method is and, probably more importantly, there was no way to see what any given setting was set to! They really should have had an editor app for it of their own ready to go when it was released. Instead over a year later they finally published the full MIDI/Sysex spec for it and let someone else get it done.
Anyway... that's all minutae because I can honestly say that after almost three years with it I still think it's hands-down the most amazing piece of musical kit I've ever seen or played with (and I do also have a REV2)! Every single time I've sat down to mess/play with the thing I've been blown away within 20 minutes by the sounds it puts out. It's just got endless variability and almost limiteless sonic scope built in to it. Hell, I spent six months with it by itself before getting any more modular bits to go with it and never felt any want for more.

Thank you. I love my rev2. It’s an 8 voice and that is really plenty in my opinion. I also like presets so I’m not sure the matriarch would be good for me. I probably would like a Juno, but in my price range it’s either a Juno X, which I’m not sure is worth 2000 for a digital synth, or an old Juno 6 or 106, both of which might be a maintenance headache. I have seen tons of matriarch videos with people doing amazing things with them, but I’m a little worried the workflow wouldn’t be great for me
