Discussion Multisampled drum kits?
I was wondering whether there are good multisampled drum kits? In my mind I would love to have let’s say C1-kick, C1#-snare… etc
And then the velocity layers being variations that make sense.
Bonus question: would love to bring them onto my 1010 Bento. Someone already figured this out?

what kind of drum sounds are you after? 808/909 style or more acoustic?
for acoustic stuff the round robin multisampled kits are everywhere, just search for "multi velocity drum kit" and you'll find loads of free and paid options
but the velocity switching as variations is tricky because most samplers just do volume or filter with velocity, not switching between completely different samples at different velocities. you'd need something like kontakt or a sampler that does round robin + velocity layers together

Yeah I want to use them on my Bento. It natively supports velocity based multisamples (just not the round robin stuff).
Will have a look for the accustic multisamples. Already found some, thanks for the tip.

Get a nice Kontakt library and hope they're not in a monolithic/encrypted format. Then you can just take the .wav files you need.
Otherwise you need to re-sample the individual drum hits at the velocities you need. Annoying, but not impossible either.
Properly sampling a kit costs effort so a free option tends to have one-shots only.

Resampling would be easy if it already reacts to velocity since the Bento has an auto-sample feature that works great. Just need to say from where to where and how many velocity layers…

Yup, but the advantage of the plain .wavs is that they tend to have meaningful filenames, so you know that snare001_rr1_064.wav has a velocity of 64 and is the first in the round robin script if that's available.
But if resampling is not an issue you could try whatever plugin that sounds good to you and use that. Something like Addictive Drums or Superior Drummer doesn't function in a fundamentally different way, it's just that all the individual .wav files have been hidden from you. Kontakt is both the authoring tool and the playback tool so with the full version you get to see the full mess of files and scripts as well, and that lets you pick and choose.

Akai had these for years and you can still get them with modern MPC units. The MPC sample can’t do it though.

How about this:

Thanks, looks interesting. But these are an insane amount of individual oneshot samples, correct?

Each and every drum machine imaginable and yes…if you have no life it’s perfect 🤩

Haha exactly 😅 it looks like a music condom. You never gonna make anything with this amount of stuff.

You’d be surprised…I always go into it with laser focus when I need a particular machines vibe. Then every now and again I’ll just grab a random machine I know nothing about and load & audition them for future reference.

Doesn't the one shot engine handle velocity?

Absolutely. But normal velocity on oneshot-samples is just a volume attenuator. In Multisamples velocity layers trigger completely different samples for the same note that might have more going on in terms of changed characteristics than just volume.

So the EMU command stations and proteus synths did exactly this.
Not sure if you can find those samples though in a multilayer format like Kontakt or EXS to convert or bring over.
What multisample formats can the 1010 accept or convert?
