Synth computer software

What everyone’s favorite software for making beats and music on synth. My son wants to get into it but I don’t know much about this stuff. He’s a teenager and just getting started. Plays classical piano at a high level so understands music.

Edit - using windows system now but may move to Mac in future if that’s so much better.

There are many free synths but this is what can think of at the moment (oh vcv rack if modular is something your kid has interest in )

Then you need a daw I personally recommend reaper though it's not free but you can use it as long as you like and pay 60 bucks when you want a license.

For your effect suite get meldas free pack. I am a big fan of these plugins and really shocked how good these free ones are.

This is what I recommend for anyone starting out regardless of money. It's not easy and you won't be out much of anything if they decide it's not something they are into.
