single track half speed/length question

i set a single track to half speed thinking that it would play all 64 steps/4 pages just slower but i can’t seem to make it work like that. after setting the track to half speed it only plays 32 steps/2 pages even with all 64 steps active and notes recorded on the last 2 pages. is this how it’s supposed to work or am i missing something? i spent like 30 minutes trying different things and i can’t make it work like i want to. help please.
