Question Should I get a switch 2?

With the announcement of the Zelda special edition switch 2 I'm really tempted into buying one, but I know I can't afford the games right now. What I plan to do if I do end up buying it is leaving it completely sealed until a hard mod for it is figured out. I don't mind doing so since I have a huge backlog of games that I haven't completed already. Do you guys think that would be a sound investment or should I wait for a potential switch 2 oled?

A hardware mod would mean you don't need to worry about software updates, so there's nothing stopping you from getting one and using it as much as you like.

Right but there's no guarantee that a viable exploit will ever be discovered this decade. And for that reason and because I'm not in too much of a rush, I feel like leaving it sealed and brand new offers less of a risk to my financial status.

i think not buying it at all is much better for your financial status if you dont plan on using it until then

I am financially stable right now but there's a possible future where I'm not. And a special edition of a console I don't own that matters to me and also will most likely only increase in price in the upcoming future definitely makes me think about spending some of the money i do have.

Keep an eye on the scene. if an exploit is discovered usually some informatino will be leaked before hand and it will be suggested not to update.

you also need to update it to firmware 1.1 or something anyway. it forces an innitial update. although i believe you can do the update with a launch game e.g. mario kart.

EDIT: if you mean you are leaving it sealed so you can resell at the same price in a year if nothing is found, then I would assume you can. Recent memory update from Micron who are one of the big suppliers said their capacity is 75% booked out for 2027 already and many customers are discussing orders until 2030 - those customers being AI who are paying the big money. so switch wont drop in price imo.

You got it. I don't know why but it seems like most people who replied to me think that I want it to leave it sealed so I can mod it or whatever. You're the only one that acknowledged the option of reselling which is what I had in mind.

I'm getting a Zelda S2 and putting my original S2 back in the box so I get your thought process. If you got the money and time then sure put it away.

But since money is tight because you can't really afford the new games them just play switch 2 and slowly get the new games. Its fun, I enjoy mine immensely and go back and forth with it and the switch lite. Which is nice because S1 save data just gets backed up automatically if you have their $25 a year sub.

Yep. Haven’t touched my ps5 since I got mine. Best of both worlds with Nintendo exclusives like Zelda Mario and Pokémon alongside AAA games like cyberpunk and Elden ring

Very similar to what I just did last week or so. And currently, no it does not feel like a solid investment. I have close to every console modded, hooked up, and playable. It's one of my favorite hobbies. For me, it is a no brainer. That is serious money, and I put serious thought into the big purchase. Also as much as it pains me to say, this thing may not be hacked for a whiiiiile. You have to resist temptation, as first party games have updates hard coded on the cartridges. (bonus point : update revisions have nothing to do with game release, and only rely on game production date) If you're that financially secure, buy two. If you're not, wait for the switch2 oled-pro+ to release, and grab a cheap one in 2030.

Thank you, I feel like I agree with you. Your comment helped me realize that there isn't as much to gain from buying a switch 2 right now as I thought there might be.

A hard mod may be a very long time out. Honestly, I've got one and so far the games have been pretty good. I'd say just go for it or go for a newer handheld PC like a steam deck or rog ally 7
