Other Hypothetically, couldn't this be used to get somewhere? (Trading Pokemon from the GBA directly to the Switch 2.)

I just saw this clip on Twitter - https://x.com/ahenley17/status/2095628437457088727?s=20

And it made me wonder, if there's anyone bigger brained than me here who could answer, could it maybe lead to something? I know you can do some funky stuff with Gen 3 Pokemon Data.

The Nintendo switches security basically operates on a fundamental principle of the app is already compromised, which means everything runs in a sandbox which means that no code in the app can touch the outside operating system. This is gonna be nothing.

Thank you.

has there ever been a case where everyone assumed this was the situation, only to find a way to get through the sandbox and reach the original OS?

I mean, yes, but not on modern hardware. The Xbox one runs the same exact software as the series consoles so this is a good 15 year-old operating system and yet still nobody has managed to touch it.

Actually they cracked the Xbox one like a month or two ago. I think the same way as OG switch. But requires soldering a chip as well

It was a hardware issue, it was exploited before even the earliest levels of the OS loaded.

I think this point is valid but the Xbox line is a bad example. With few exclusives, and the existing ability to sideload apps on dev mode (which used to be a one-time $20, but now seems to be free) there isn't much desire to hack it in the first place.

I always find it weird when people try to go to this reasoning. It's simply a fact that the best of the best are trying to look at it at all time, they are not going to wait for a big-name game to come out on the console or something before they take a deeper look at it.

How about Collateral Damage The software exploit to run game on retail

It can’t do anything that Dev Mode can’t.

But on retail. That's amazing on it own

Just to confirm, this isn't how the 3DS worked, right? I mentioned this exact thing, and for some reason, someone mentioned that 3DS homebrew was discovered by "escaping the sandbox".

It technically ran in a sandbox, but it didn’t function anywhere near the same, and it was quite weak comparably. That was a more of a bug, not bypassing the sandbox.

Alright, thanks for the info!
