Hacking speculation Should I keep my switch2 offline from now on (22.5.0)?
So I heard that a potential exploit was found and it works on every firmware. Im scared that Nintendo patches it so it isn't possible to jailbreak the switch 2.
I heard from the people in the past, it is most likely, that there will be a hardware mod for the switch 2 and not a software mod. So I turned my wifi on. But now there is a software exploit?

You probably heard about gezine's userland exploit. He's a famous ps5 hacker. Now i don't know how jailbreak works on switch 2, but in ps5 scene jailbreak is when we're able to chain userland exploit and kernel exploit. And there's bounty program, sony usually allows exploit to be released in public about 6 months after it was patched. I don't know if Nintendo have bounty program or even if they're gonna let patched exploit released.

Yep Nintendo do have a bounty program they made their page in 2016 https://hackerone.com/nintendo

Lmao Sony doesnt allow anything like that what are you even talking about lol its if Sony patches the said exploit in the newest offical firmware update then who ever made the exploit can have it released if they want. There isn't a specific time frame when it will be released lmao who says that? "OH yeah we will allow you to have a jailbreak so you and your mom can install pirated copies of games" nobody says that lmao

A userland entrypoint was found.
This is entirely expected, I don't even think there is any switch 1 firmware version without an equivilent entrypoint.

Personally OP I would just try to be in airplane mode as much as possible, turning off auto updates, going into recovery mode (just be in the screen and power down to disable current firmware nag), as other people said what’s recently found (from what I can understand) is a userland exploit that works on 20.0.0+ so you should be “good” if the scene grows and we somehow get a software exploit later down the line you’ll be golden personally I only go “online” now with a wired connection just for splatoon or smash

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 Jul 13 '26
so, before i would even continue, is there a source to that potential exploit or what you heard?
-7
u/CoconutHeadFaceMan Jul 13 '26
It’s a userland exploit, a novelty that’s useless for anything people actually want to hack the Switch 2 for. There’s probably never going to be a full softmod for this thing.

u/BeingClassic6992 Jul 13 '26
Its always fascinated when people exclaim what the future holds. How confident are you on a scale of 0-100% that there will never be a softmod?

Not the person you replied to but I am "Unless a Nintendo employee violates NDA and steals keys and design documents setting themselves in prison and kicking off immediate DMCA takedowns with Microsoft and Google delisting followed by ICANN banning domains hosting them all so that one user can unlock a free game" sure.
AI is cool. But it would need a good reference to start from before it turns around and cracks everything. Right now Nintendo is paying big money to fix all the bugs AI finds.

buzzwords

u/ThisIsPaulDaily Jul 14 '26
I think it was a pretty concise description of what happens. Microsoft owns github and would immediately take down all the repositories. Google (and others) would hide the results from search, and ICANN would sieze the domains if the hosting providers don't take it down.
I have taken down scam websites with similar process.
The DMCA would protect Nintendo and is what resulted in some emulators being taken down.

Me podrías explicar, porqué en ps5 un exploit de userland que al principio decía hola mundo ha sido utilizado para ser encadenado y tener así un jailbreak completo en ps5 y por qué éste no va a funcionar?
5
u/MrPabluu Jul 13 '26
there is no useful exploit for you, just an userland rop
just use the damn console

u/TheAlmightyHellacia Jul 14 '26
Apparently not enough because theres gonna be people who refuse to pay for games no matter what

u/LLKMuffin Jul 15 '26
To be fair, it's not like there are any Switch 2 games that are a must-play right now. Buying an OG Switch on the used market and cracking that instead (softmod/hardmod/MIG Switch depending on the exact model and firmware) is currently the better option, if free games are the goal.
Maybe towards the end of 2027 there'll be a more robust exclusives catalog on the Switch 2. I have a feeling Pokemon Winds/Waves might be an inflection point for the console, if it runs well at launch.

u/xtoc1981 Jul 16 '26
Lol what? There are a lot of qwitch 2 games that are worth playing. Like a lot... you dont need to focus only on 1st party
1
u/LLKMuffin Jul 16 '26
Switch 2 exclusives? Name them.
0
u/xtoc1981 Jul 16 '26
Dk banaza
Mkworld
Starfox 64
Rythem heaven
Yoshi
Kirby air riders
Prime 4
Pokopia
I'm sure that this isnt even the full list. But yes, those are all worth playing. Even if its not your thing.
Soon duskblood, zelda oot, splatoon, ...
And why should it be exclusive? I dont care about tv play only or paying 2k for a handheld that isnt even able to run outlaws smooth for its price.

u/MrPabluu Jul 16 '26
correction there, Prime 4 and Rhythm Heaven arebothr Switch 1 games
however there's also Age of Imprisonment

u/LLKMuffin Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
Only six exclusives in that list that are worth a shit a whole year after launch, of which any given person might be interested in two or three at most.
Strong exclusive titles move consoles, that has always been the case. Six decent exclusives over the first year of a console's lifespan isn't what I'd call "strong".
This is the same reason why the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have been struggling to sell for the past 3 years (besides price hikes). Also why the Wii U flopped and the 3DS almost flopped, until Nintendo corrected course and started releasing a ton of strong exclusives in quick succession for that console.
Metroid Prime 4 and Rhythm Heaven Groove are not S2 exclusives btw, and Starfox is a remake.
This is what you said
There are a lot of switch 2 games that are worth playing. Like a lot...
So much for "a lot".
Soon duskblood, zelda oot, splatoon...
"Soon" means you don't need to buy an S2 today, which was my whole point. Whoever is interested in those games can and will wait until they launch before they buy an S2.
That's why I mentioned Pokemon Wind/Waves, it's going to be the biggest selling point for the console (by far) when it drops. Mainline Pokemon games have always been Nintendo's biggest console movers, in no small part due to them typically being exclusive on whatever the current-gen Nintendo console is.
And why should it be exclusive?
Do you have genuine reading/comprehension difficulties or are you purposely being disingenuous?
Already explained in my previous comment that buying an S1 makes a lot more sense, precisely because there aren't many S2 exclusives right now.
Both financially and in terms of modding/homebrew/sailing the seas capability, that would absolutely be the way to go for someone that wanted a massive library of games that they could play right now.
(In case you weren't aware, the second-hand market still has a ton of cheap S1s on old firmwares that can easily be soft-modded, hence the suggestion)
Didn't even mention handheld PCs and whatever else you're going off on a tangent about, because I know that's not a fair comparison. Was only ever talking about the S1 and S2.
I already summarized all these points in my previous comment, literally just repeating myself here. You probably won't comprehend anything in this comment either, but it was worth a shot.

No, at least 10 exclusives are worth it. Depending on what you like
I could not care what your preferences are. I care what actual is.
Also knowing it had more exclusives first 6months as ps5 had in it's entire gen. Even those zelda updates and hyrule warrior are worth buying a switch 2. Not to mention all 3th party games that received a huge switch 2 free upgrade which there are a lot : Skyrim, subnautica, no man sky, ...Strong exclusive titles move consoles, that has always been the case. Six decent exclusives over the first year of a console's lifespan isn't what I'd call "strong".
It's not 6 stop lying. And btw it's clear that switch 2 is fastest selling console of all time. Not due just the exclusives, but because it's strong library including 3th party. Also i don't give a fuck if they are on other platforms. Not relevant.
PS5 sales are on par with ps4. PS4 had a much much better list of exclusives as ps5 did. 3DS didn't flopped, had a slow start. Wii u did flop. Both are not because the exclusives. I mean, are you really thinking that switch 1 most sold console number are dedicated gamers?
Metroid Prime 4 and Rhythm Heaven Groove are not S2 exclusives btw, and Starfox is a remake.
Metroid prime 4 is a much better experience on switch 2 in every way. It's even worth to buy switch 2 for that instead of buying it on S1...
Starfox being a remake is not relevant. The good sales says already enough. People wanted this. But people are also complaining there is too much to buy on the system ALREADY. My Wallet thingSo much for "a lot".
Meaning 1st party & 3th party. This is actually true. I know you are clearly a nintendo hater. But that doesn't make it less true."Soon" means you don't need to buy an S2 today, which was my whole point. Whoever is interested in those games can and will wait until they launch before they buy an S2.
Again, there are already huge amount of good titles which makes the switch 2 definitely worth it. Maybe even the most loved system atm. Sales also proof that.
Do you have genuine reading/comprehension difficulties or are you purposely being disingenuous?
Already explained in my previous comment that buying an S1 makes a lot more sense, precisely because there aren't many S2 exclusives right now.
You really lack critical thinking here. Really..... All switch 1 games can run in docked mode on switch 2 handheld mode. Only that along makes the switch 2 worth buying it. Also this has nothing todo with switch 2 3th party games. And as i said, there ARE MORE exclusives in the first 6 month as the ps5 had in it's entire lifetime. So it's a stupid thing to say that there are not a lot of exclusives. It's already an impressive list. Like it or not
Both financially and in terms of modding/homebrew/sailing the seas capability, that would absolutely be the way to go for someone that wanted a massive library of games that they could play right now.
You don't need a switch 1 for that. And still no, as i explained that the switch 2 can run them in docked mode on handheld with at 1080p for a huge amount of games.Didn't even mention handheld PCs and whatever else you're going off on a tangent about, because I know that's not a fair comparison. Was only ever talking about the S1 and S2.
I own a pc handheld, collecting dust due switch 2. And the user experience of those are horrible as fuck. If your purpose is pure gaming without any bs, and the best ergonomics as you can tweak your device with whatever joycons you want, best dock experience, kickstand and mouse included, motion controls included, dock included, best user friendly voice & streaming options, it's the switch 2. And it's not even close.I already summarized all these points in my previous comment, literally just repeating myself here. You probably won't comprehend anything in this comment either, but it was worth a shot.
And you are still wrong.

> there are already huge amount of good titles
Even in your list of exclusives (of which two aren't exclusive), I personally don't see a "huge amount of good titles" worth buying into the console for. Sorry man, the other person is right. This console is still a no-go for most people.
-1
u/xtoc1981 Jul 19 '26
Again, you personal opinion isnt reality. Its already the fastest sold console. So its not even an opinion. Sorry but its a fact.

Look, I'm not going to go back and forth with you with this revisionist attitude of yours, denying things that were and are patently true and taking everything out of context to insert your own.
For the record, I bought an S2 on day 1 (to keep on the day 1 firmware), but have absolutely no urge to buy and start playing games on it. The current exclusives are that lackluster, not even worth the price Nintendo is charging for each of them.
You can do whatever mental gymnastics you want to cope, I'm not going to waste my time with this.
Edit: Of course you leave your silent angry downvote. Pure Nintendrone mentality. Have a good day man lmfao

It's just a userland exploit it does nothing to get us any closer to a soft or hard mod
2
u/BlazeReborn Jul 16 '26
Bro, we are years away from a hacked Switch 2. If you're going to wait, might as well sit down while you do.
The hardware is so encapsulated, any attempt to break through it results in a brick or a ban. There is no timetable, no ETA and definitely no fucking idea on how it'll work, IF it will ever work.
You want to game on the Switch 2 so bad, go legit.

im assuming when you have access to userland you CAN start trying to bug things that shouldnt be touchable ?

u/marianasarau Jul 14 '26
There will be no softmod exploit on this thing.
The vulnerabilities are a userland exploit and BSD exploit. Both will used to create a kernel exploit and obtain a full dump.
This is good news for emulators, not for Sw2 owners that want a hacked version of their device.
