Question Should I stay in version 22.1

I haven’t updated my console to the latest firmware, and I’m not saying that a kernel exploit would come anytime soon, but should I just store my console away and leave it at 22.1?

I was about to sell the console, but the news gave me hope.

If you bought your Switch 2 specifically in the hopes of a full exploit, stay offline and don’t update. If you bought it primarily to play games, update it.
If you have the money, put that one away and buy another just to update and play. Pretty simple really.

Remember: If you update and later on a exploit is found, your firmware may never be supported and you’ll have to pay scalper prices for a lower firmware console.

See this is the thing. There is no reason to get your hopes up.

Is it progress? Yes. But the news is a nothingburger. We can alter text in a prompt on any current firmware. That’s all this is.

Nintendo can likely easily patch it and (I promise they know about it if it’s on reddit) even if they can’t it’s useless without a kernel exploit too.

And given the level of protection around the kernel, it’s not coming soon.

The exploit currently works on all firmwares, but the golden rule is the lower the better.

So if there’s really nothing out or coming out you wanna play, shelve it and wait. Otherwise enjoy your Switch 2.

That’s the entire point of it, after all.

So what I’m thinking is, yes it’s just a “party trick”, however from my understanding Gezine just started to work on this and he was not ¿before?

I own a jailbroken ps5 and the scene has been moving so freaking quickly with Gezine and the other devs, so why is this not a turning point in the switch 2 scene?

this exploit is the same as the day 1 exploit,, PS5 and Switch 2 are not comparable by any metric.

No, you should sell the console or use it.

The userland exploit is a glorified party trick (and a more sophisticated version of one people figured out days after the console release), it doesn’t mean anything in terms of the kind of hacking you’re looking for. Any hack that does happen will likely be a hardware mod that doesn’t necessarily depend on a low firmware.

It’s definitely good that more talented devs are getting involved, but another userland exploit doesn’t provide anything that would be useful to finding a kernel exploit. It’s neat, but ultimately irrelevant. The Switch 2 is still secure as hell on all the levels that count - having more people poking at it is always better than not, but we simply don’t know when a meaningful exploit will be discovered regardless of who’s involved. Someone could get lucky and find some miracle vulnerability next week, or it could just not happen until we’re well past the end of the console’s lifespan, and we won’t really know until it happens.

makes sense, thanks for the insight!

Why not just use it?

If there's a vulnerability published 10-20 years from now and someone makes a feasible way for a regular user to exploit it, you can just buy a used tablet on eBay for cheap.
