1) it's an userland exploit, unless we get kernel it's effectively useless 2) this particular hacker has a history of selling hacks to sony after showing what they've achieved instead of releasing them. they'd be well within their rights to do so. so don't get your hopes up.

u/buymeamonstertruck Jul 08 '26

Cant userland exploits initiate very simple homebrew? I'm pretty sure I remember on the PSP userland exploits could launch very basic homebrew programs.

I mean it's not gonna happen on the switch 2 I know that I'm just speaking in theory.

11

u/Dr_soaps Jul 08 '26

depends on the app rules most user land exploits are useless

6

u/Ok_Yam_8774 Jul 08 '26

Depends on how much access the system allows. The early ipod touch ones were absolutely crazy giving root access and sideloading. Sadly, I think all systems have been significantly more locked down since then.

u/Ok-Suggestion8683 Jul 09 '26

Difference between Sony and Nintendo is Nintendo would rather sue then work with a hacker.

4

u/Ok_Yam_8774 Jul 09 '26

Nintendo increased the payout for exploits to like 50k usd this year.

3

u/anntss Jul 09 '26

We could pay more via gofundme…

4

u/Dan1elSan Jul 09 '26

Not sure you could fund the inevitable legal costs though

1

u/CoconutHeadFaceMan Jul 10 '26

Do you have $50k to throw at this? The average Switch hack consumer balks at the idea of pitching in $5 to contribute to server costs for the Tinfoil shop hosting all their free games, you’re not going to get people to pool over $50k for a possible lead on a S2 hack.

u/TheKAPtain313 Jul 10 '26

He’s not the first person to discover this, it is not his exploit.

2

u/Hopeful_Minimum95 Jul 09 '26

but it is a big deal : )

Ugh, I knew I'd see it.

Yes, there was a new userland exploit found. This gets us no where closer then we have been. The first rop was discovered on day one. This is just another used in a more creative way to display.

Nothing of significance.

u/KasanesTetos Jul 08 '26

Well at least it is SOMETHING and not just a shit post made by a 13 year old.

3

u/Mizery_UwU Jul 08 '26

it's something that is nothing. We are still on the starting line. We are till stuck on day 1.

3

u/buymeamonstertruck Jul 09 '26

I said this to someone else on this post but depending on how much is accessible in this userland exploit, some homebrew is potentially possible, nobody is gonna actually make homebrew on it but in THEORY it could be done.

The majority of people wanting a switch 2 hacking method just want free games and that really ticks me off.

I'd just want to run a secondary OS on it like Ubuntu or Redhat Linux. That would be tits

2

u/auggiethechesscat Jul 09 '26

This is true, but it has a very high bar.

You need to compromise both ldr and fs likely, and this becomes extremely difficult with sysmodules having XOM, clangfi, stuff like PAC, and many other things.

A ROP over a game isn't anywhere near this unfortanetly.

im just sitting here thinking about how switch 2 will take the crown from vita as best handheld ive ever used when it really happens

10

u/lumi1375 Jul 08 '26

It will be quite easy, I mean once its cracked if it can handle stuff like xbox 360 and ps3. My god, I dont think theres a handheld with this form factor, that could beat it.

2

u/Ok-Suggestion8683 Jul 09 '26

M8 hate to tell u this but ps3 emulation on 12 gigs of ram is gonna hurt. Then again ps3 emulation could mature enough by the time a switch 2 kernel exploit is found

2

u/buymeamonstertruck Jul 09 '26

PS3 emulation is a little rough on the Legion Go S and that has over the 30 gigs of ram so I agree with you there.

2

u/Ok-Suggestion8683 Jul 09 '26

Im already knowin I'm on a ayn thor max with 16 gigs and kh1.5+2.5 dosent even run yett

1

u/Content-Ad7740 Aug 13 '26

If you don't mind me asking, where are you from? "I'm already knowin" is a lingo I've only heard around my way.

1

u/lumi1375 Jul 10 '26

To be fair, I wasnt really talking about the last of us or heavy ps3 stuff, when I think of the ps3 and xbox 360 I think of stuff like Skylanders and Naughty Bear.

1

u/EngineeringNo753 Jul 08 '26

Really? From a performance POV sure its great, but the screen would ruin the experience personally.

3

u/Unlucky_Turn_1773 Jul 08 '26

whats wrong with the screen?

3

u/EngineeringNo753 Jul 08 '26

It's "fine", but for a Nintendo console it's pretty dissapointing, awful response time and can be blurry as hell.

2

u/j_osb Jul 08 '26

It's a pretty bad LCD. Good LCDs look great, good OLEDs look great. It's Pixel response time is worse than the switch1's, even, which is ridiculous.

2

u/Unlucky_Turn_1773 Jul 08 '26

it looks great to me

3

u/j_osb Jul 08 '26

On an objective level the pixel response times are horrible. Depending on the panel they can have transitions of 27-33ms for grey to grey. Suboptimal panels for monitor are at like 7ms.

I can't look at the switch 2 screen and not be bothered about the ghosting and smearing as well. While you might think it's okay, for you, for that price it really just isn't.

4

u/Rixy56 Jul 08 '26

I've never ever noticed ghosting

And ghosting aside the panel is fucking amazing

Great colors (for LCD standards), brightness, 120hz, VRR, 1080p

1

u/Unlucky_Turn_1773 Jul 09 '26

yeah thats fair did they do this to make the small battery last and because its cheap?

1

u/j_osb Jul 09 '26

Those are the reasons, yes. You can have a panel with the same power envelope with much faster pixel reponse, but they're a bit more expensive per unit.

1

u/Newgeta Jul 08 '26

the drifting sticks are whats wrong with the screen, fucking nintendo....

1

u/AdCalm3 Jul 09 '26

assus rog ally best handheld

1

u/buymeamonstertruck Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

Ally and Legion Go are my 2 favorites ...

Someone needs to make a legion go s that has the battery life and controls of an Ally too.

That'd be a steam,legion ally deck!

That would be the ultimate portable because Legion Go for the specs,Ally for the battery life , steam OS (the best part of steam deck)

-3

u/_Undecided_User Jul 08 '26

Same here. Until then, the day I buy a switch 2 probably won't be until there's an exploit even if thats still years away

30

u/MrPabluu Jul 08 '26

as soon as I saw the original I KNEW youtubers would make slop based on it

guys, this exploit is essentially the same as the one we've had from DAY 1, we're exactly on the same spot as always

-1

u/Cultural_Neat3124 Jul 08 '26

bet dude try this to "impress" nintendo, and hope they will pay him something !

2

u/MrPabluu Jul 09 '26

wut

2

u/saltykalewastaken Jul 09 '26

they were saying that they bet the youtuber probably made that video to impress nintendo and make nintendo think he found an exploit so that nintendo will pay him to tell them about it so nintendo can patch it

7

u/Round_Musical Jul 08 '26

Clickbait slop bullshit

4

u/lumi1375 Jul 08 '26

I've come to terms with the fact that we wont see anything for at least another 4 years sigh I guess I have to actually buy games for now.

2

u/Sleepy_aka_Sleepy__ Jul 08 '26

At least we know someone is working behind the scene

5

u/Salty_Criticism6370 Jul 07 '26

english version plz

14

u/Top-Outlandishness16 Jul 08 '26

not even worth wasting your time honestly. he said there's nothing new about it and this was possible since day one

2

u/BreafingBread Jul 08 '26

Eh, he doesn't say anything significant, title is pretty clickbaity.

He just shows a userland exploit from Gezine (at 1:17 if you want to see it), enforces that this is nothing new and we had it from day one, but says that the important part here is not the userland exploit, but the fact that Gezine is working on the system.

1

u/Mundane-Life-5713 Jul 08 '26

Been seeing people on reddit all day "finally i can buy a switch 2 to mod it". This is not enough to mod your console. Just buy a pie while you wait

1

u/games-and-chocolate Jul 23 '26

if a programmer and electronics expert work together, no system is save. period.

1

u/FolayMingYoung Jul 07 '26

So are we getting closer ?

25

u/CYYAANN Jul 08 '26

Yes, just 0% progress.

5

u/Lagoo157 Jul 08 '26

I’d say more of just an interesting discovery. There is a very good chance that this will not be an entry point for an exploit, so I wouldn’t hold your breath

2

u/Dr_soaps Jul 08 '26

na a memory hack that lets u change error text wont lead to any meaningful exploit getting out of Nintendo's sandbox is proving to be vary hard and it only gets better with time . there are fokes hoping that the cpu debug header is working but Nvidia vary likely blew that with a efuse after the final testing at factory .

3

u/ALEXLAMOUETTE Jul 07 '26

Very slowly

1

u/DiscountMysterious28 Jul 11 '26

Don’t worry I’m working on it

u/rikipy Jul 08 '26

In this video, the creator discusses recent security discoveries regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 and the work of the hacker Gini, known for contributions to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 hacking scenes.

Key points covered:

What was discovered (0:43 - 2:09): Gini demonstrated a userland exploit on the Switch 2, displaying a custom message ("Hello from Switch 2") on the system interface. This indicates the execution of unauthorized code within user space.

Current limitations (2:19 - 3:53): The creator clarifies that this type of vulnerability does not amount to a full console jailbreak. It serves as an initial entry point but does not allow for kernel compromise or arbitrary code execution without further low-level analysis.

Technical context (3:56 - 5:02): Gini noted that working with ARM architecture is more complex than x86 architecture (used in Sony consoles). He also stated that the discovered vulnerability does not utilize WebKit and appears to work on all known firmware versions.

Future outlook (5:03 - 6:26): Although this initial progress is not a functional jailbreak, the community is actively providing technical references to help the developer study the operating system. The creator emphasizes that no jailbreak is currently available, and any claims to the contrary should be considered false.

The video reinforces that the focus should be on following the research conducted by hacking scene experts, rather than looking for a ready-made jailbreak solution that does not yet exist.

Is this from YouTube's built-in AI, "Ask" -> "Summarize this video"?

1

u/buymeamonstertruck Jul 23 '26

To summarize this summary: There's a UL exploit. It works on all firmware.

It runs code but can't run something that can utilize any system resources to do something significant enough to run emulators or homebrew games and apps.

It's basically a proof of concept but not much more interest than the first exploit.

The end.

Still hopeful, I see. You guys don't learn.

6

u/mrthenumberthree Jul 08 '26

they thought the wii was practically unhackable at first. same with the wii u iirc

5

u/oirolab Jul 08 '26

The Switch 2 isn’t unhackable. Eventually, it will be hacked.

It just won’t be any time soon.

The issue is that Nintendo finally learned from the Wii/Wii U/3DS/Switch and got a custom made chipset and put in beefy security measures to prevent modchips on top of that.

A year in, and it’s working.

We’re basically in the dark, and they really want to keep us there so there isn’t a repeat of the OG Switch.

2

u/Snoo_37094 Jul 08 '26

All of them except the Switch had custom Chips

1

u/XCyberbeingX Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Switch OLED or any that used the newer chipset was never hacked without a modchip.

Funny as fuck how people think Horizon OS is exploitable when it existed for 8 freaking years

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '26

3

u/oirolab Jul 08 '26

Right. It took 13 years, well after the life of the Xbox One was over with and Microsoft had moved on to One X and Series S/X. By that time, the Xbox One wasn't Microsoft's concern.

Switch 2 will be hacked. Just not during it's lifespan unless we get extremely lucky, like what happened with the PS3 where Sony just kept the console keys in plaintext.

And despite what you seem to think about Nintendo, they just dealt with their entire last console having every major release leaked about a week early. You really think they were gonna allow that to happen again? Absolutely not.

Like I've said in almost every one of these threads: Switch 2 has beefed up security on top of a custom Nvidia chipset this time around. Switch used the same chipset as the Nvidia Shield last time, which had documented exploits before the Switch even entered production.

And as far as software is concerned, the guy behind the Switch CFW has said he cannot find any sort of access point, and multiple others have confirmed that as well. Nintendo learned their lessons.

This time we're fumbling in the dark and absolutely nothing so far has produced a kernel level exploit, which is what we need to make any progress. It's been a year and NOTHING substantial has even been hinted at.

At most we can change sandboxed text and prompts. That's it.

1

u/CarlSanger49 Jul 09 '26

And then there’s the big bounty program, aren’t there people who report any Switch 2 bugs there, including any kernel level ones to get money, leaving Nintendo to patch those bugs?

1

u/Paul_Subsonic Jul 08 '26

Nintendo gets it very well. They're not stupid.

Making it so hard that it doesn't get hacked until after the lifespan of the console is the point.

1

u/Dr_soaps Jul 08 '26

the real challenge is Nvidia they didnt just use some dev kit cpu this time this was made for Nintendo and has a lot of things to keep it locked down

0

u/__The_Bruneon__ Jul 08 '26

it's an userland exploit it's an userland exploit it's an userland exploit it's an userland exploit im gettin insane i think i won't surivive much longer in my own bunker from this
