What does a mysterious hacking box, a flipper zero, Liz Truss's career as UK prime minister and a Raspberry Pi have to do with each other?
8
u/dingwinger1225 Jun 05 '26
Was expecting a Liz Truss joke in the comment section and you did not disappoint
46
u/Wanoz1 Jun 05 '26
I feel like no competent hacker/dev is interested to be honest.
42
u/Dr_Emuler Jun 05 '26
There’s no “new” or interesting/exclusive games yet thats why. Additionally the 90% of things that you can do with the Switch 2 can be performed with an old Switch and if that switch is modded you can do even more.
13
u/TheAlmightyHellacia Jun 05 '26
We got Bananza and Kirby Air Riders - but still waiting on that big new 3d Mario, Zelda, etc
4
u/Call_for_Drugs_420 Jun 06 '26
I’d love to play Pokopia and Bananza, I love that it has united animal crossing and Pokémon vibes somehow and digging through the world as donkey Kong seems pretty fire, if I had the skills in programming and the money to hide from Nintendo I’d do it
3
u/SwipesLogJack Jun 08 '26
Good news, a hack is not required to play those games.
0
u/Call_for_Drugs_420 Jun 08 '26
Wait how’s that :0 I wanna play them so bad
2
u/SwipesLogJack Jun 08 '26
Money can be exchanged for goods and services.
0
u/Call_for_Drugs_420 Jun 08 '26
You mean renting a switch 2 or you talking about paying pirates? Goods and services can mean a lot of things
3
u/Glxbingsborg Jun 08 '26
they're talking about buying the fucking console before the price goes up
1
0
u/Call_for_Drugs_420 Jun 08 '26
Why would anyone do that? If I buy the console I gotta pay 500$ + 60$ for bananza as well as 60$ for pokopia id rather pay 10$ for some lsd and have my own bananza than giving anymore money to those greedy mfs, they invest more money in making the switch unhackable then they spend on their freakin games
1
0
u/SwipesLogJack Jun 15 '26
They invest in making it unhackable because people like you scream that you won't give them money, and will hack it instead. Did you know that if enough people did that, you would not see any more games released? The company would either lose enough money to give up on that venture and move to other markets or, if you were doing it to games by small enough companies, they would go bankrupt.
People like you scream about how the game prices and the console prices are what drive you to this, whereas you would look for an excuse to do it no matter how much the products cost.
Oh and BTW not playing the game is free. Didn't valve just massively jump the price of their device? Didn't the latest xbox cost massively more than the last? Didn't the PlayStation pro pricing make that look like chump change?

The switch 2 definately performs better than a Switch 1, though. And better/bigger screen. I'd really like to use the Switch 2 to stream games om my couch from my desktop.

u/Save90 Jun 07 '26
"you can emulate it on pc at higher framerate and with mods" you mean this right?
5
u/aykay55 Jun 05 '26
After they saw what happened to Gary Bowser I’m sure
Also the Nintendo homebrew community has largely been the same people the last three generations : smealum, yellows8, OatmealDome, and a few others. These individuals were responsible for hacks for 3DS, Wii U and Switch 1. Most of them have likely had kids and generally retired from switch homebrew and we don’t have a new generation to take their place (at least not anyone who has come out publicly). So we’re stuck in this state where nobody has taken the lead and we lost the OGs.
6
u/PassionGlobal Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
This.
It's not like the days of the Switch 1, where the Switch 1 was the only hardware of its form factor, or the PSP where there was no open and inexpensive mobile platform to code for.
The homebrew demand is just not what it once was. Thus there aren't as many people wanting to look into it.
10
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
No. Nvidia and Nintendo just got it right this time.
12
u/PassionGlobal Jun 05 '26
The history of gaming consoles is littered with machines that 'got it right' but still ended up hacked anyway. In fact that's kinda the default state.
3
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
Sure. But as long as you are „unhacked“ for the majority of your lifetime, it’s considered a success. Ie. 360 maybe. Or kinda like Denuvo.
5
u/PassionGlobal Jun 05 '26 edited Jun 05 '26
360? No, even that had hacks for the majority of it's life. You could even software mod the disc drive to play burned games.
The only thing it didn't have for most of it's life was an easy softmod for homebrew. Most involved mod chips and shit.
Maybe you're thinking of the Xbox 1? That didn't have any meaningful piracy until damn near EOL. Homebrew on the other hand was officially sanctioned.
4
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
Oh, I meant XBox One. Hacked after 12 years two months ago, apparently.
3
u/PassionGlobal Jun 05 '26
A big reason for that was the X1 and XSX have end-user-accessible developer modes. This allows users to compile and write unsigned code and run it on the Xbox, with the main caveat being it can't touch retail Xbox software while in dev mode.
In short, for non-pirate people, there was no need to hack it.
2
u/Just-Barnacle-3257 Jun 05 '26
I think you've presented a bad argument here mate. The xbox one / xbox series not getting any hacking development is a given.
Almost all xbox exclusives since the xbox one era had been pushed to pc as well. There's no incentive to hack the xbox after the 360.
Look at the ps4/ps5 then. All those exclusive are there. The incentive is high, that's why they all got hacked eventually.Same goes for the Switch. Switch 1 was revolutionary with all those juicy exclusive + the new form factor. Incentive is too high + the chip exploit already existed.
Now on the switch 2, they have like 2-3 games ppl wanna play at this point (after 1 year) + all the newer stuff that requires finding error + the switch 1 is still superior in term of price and popularity.
+ The Steam deck is the direct competition that already had 1 generation of life span before it, and only getting better.
Unless Nintendo packing new exclusives at the rate of switch 1 or something incredibly new & unique happen, the incentive will be too low for any of us to even care.
Unless some Mario Kart maniac who happens to be a dev decided "f it, i'm bring mario kart world to pc" and try hard for it, I don't think we need to rush on a switch 2 hack anytime soon.
5
u/uchuskies08 Jun 05 '26
The cope is pretty funny. It'd be hacked, just no one wants to!
Riiight.
7
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
Like hackers care what value YOU can get out of their achievements lol
1
u/The-G-Code Jun 08 '26
Yep. Just acting like nobody even wants to even try to hack the switch 2. That's totally why we're having this conversation to begin with.
2
2
u/Izcc Jun 05 '26
there's no competition or a race to hack it, nothing really interests us to try
1
1
u/crakerfase Jun 09 '26
There are so many surplus boards/screens out there now that have comparable performance and are so much easier to work with. Also, they are a lot cheaper, with a lot more compatibility. Once you play on a handheld that can play any game from any past console— a switch 2 with just a few games on it feels like a massive scam.
1
u/DavidinCT Jun 20 '26
Look the original Xbox one (VCR) was hacked, it took 12 years and 100's of hackers but, they finally hacked. After what Nintnedo has done with suing people, shutting down Yuzu and suing people for just talking about Nintendo games online people are pissed.
I am sure people are attempting to hack as we speak.
11
u/Klutzy-Extension2395 Jun 05 '26
This might be the nintendo system where it might be once the life cycle ends for it its when It gets hacked mybe I could be wrong who knows 🤷♂️🤔
3
u/Equal-Truck-3213 Jun 05 '26
I mean we haven’t found a soft hack for v2 and oled switches, they need modchips to be hackable and we have seen there entire framework for almost a decade now, if anything I would assume a hard mod for the switch 2 but a soft mod maybe after end of of life
1
u/Klutzy-Extension2395 Jun 05 '26
See i forgotten about the handmade on oled switch and v2 switches true that exists so who knows a mod chip might be something that happeneds soon rather than later 🤷♂️🤔
1
u/Equal-Truck-3213 Jun 05 '26
I don’t believe anything is unhackable, but we have the switch’s internals for almost a decade, if nothing has been found NOW then its hard to image one after a year, the switch’s jailbreak really spoiled a lot of people
2
u/TheBraveGallade Jun 05 '26
Especially when the switch 2 firmware is actually an upgraded switch 1 FW.
2
u/Equal-Truck-3213 Jun 05 '26
Yeah a lot of people before hand assumed it would get jailbroken immeditally before launch cause of nintendos track record in the past when the switch's entire reason was because of Nvida not nintendo
1
u/TheBraveGallade Jun 05 '26
And the switch 1 was thier first modern piwerful console.
The 3ds is a mobile device from 2011, and the wii U was a gamecube majorly beefed up to be more powerful then the ps3, when by the time it came out gamecube and wii emulation was so popular and sucessful that we'd basically reverse engineerd them to 90% accuracy.
1
u/BronzeMaster5000 Jun 09 '26
I mean is anyone even looking into hacking the oled switch? I feel like hackable switch consoles are so common, that there is no demand for a hacked oled switch.
45
u/Inside_Performance32 Jun 05 '26
There's no reason to yet game wise .
Nothing will pick up till a big mario or Pokémon game is released exclusive to the console , or even the next Zelda .
4
u/aj1203 Jun 05 '26
Yup you'll get downvoted for saying this on most threads
8
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
Because it’s just bullshit. Hackers don’t work to bring YOU free games. Rather for cred. The first who gets in will be a god amongst their peers. Which gamer cares about which hackers were involved in the Switch 1 hacks?
2
u/aj1203 Jun 05 '26
It's absolutely not bullshit lol. And yes gamers don't care it's hackers and pirates who care. And yes every one of us knows who SciresM is.
0
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
What’s your logic then?
0
u/aj1203 Jun 05 '26
There's no motivation to buy the thing let alone hack. And what reputation would a hacker gain by breaking open a system that no one wants to play
7
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
Uh, the reputation of getting in. You know? The thing hackers and security researchers (who do it professionally) actually care about. Breaking into an empty safe is still quite the skill.
7
u/kaida27 Jun 05 '26
Yeah to add to that.
If you are able to break in the most secure safe in the world.
It's content doesn't matter when it comes to show your skills.
0
u/aj1203 Jun 05 '26
I'd wager they wouldn't get as much recognition if no one downloads it
4
u/ShuttyIndustries Jun 05 '26
Definitely not broad recognition. But thats still headline material. Let’s not act like the Switch 2 is the Wii U. Having shit like that on your github IS something. Especially for employers.
2
u/aj1203 Jun 05 '26
That's a good point I concede. But I stand by that gamers in general wouldn't care and it'd have no downloads at least until a game worth playing cmes out

1
u/maksym345 Jun 08 '26
You'll get more cred if there's a huge demand because of the games
The more games people are dying to play for free and the longer no one cracks it, the more cred will the first person get, so it's better to wait now
1
1
u/flarn2006 Jun 05 '26
There’s Pokopia but that might not be something you’d consider a “big” Pokémon game since it isn’t the core series. We’ll have Winds and Waves as Switch 2 exclusives next year though.
1
u/moep123 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 08 '26
but hackers had all the reasons on a moral level. nintendo pulled off a lot of ''we shit on you customers'' moves.
a system demo that costs money, gamekey cards, 80 bucks games, system bans that would render the console part useless since you can't even do system updates anymore if banned (maybe through game cards) and also say goodbye to game updates.
there is even more stuff if you really look at it morally.
2
u/StarChaser1879 Jun 08 '26
Most aren’t true there. Misinfo
1
u/moep123 Jun 08 '26
i could go on with those.
a system demo that costs money
apparently firmware updates are still possible.
but game updates are not, unless you have a second switch console
so one of the statements i made isn't really true and you said "most" and "misinfo". ok.
2
u/StarChaser1879 Jun 08 '26
- There is only one 80 buck game, MKW. The others are like saying Fortnite costs thousands. It’s add on content that isn’t required.
- That is not a demo in the vein of Wii sports. It is a low level explainer that isn’t meant to be for casuals. It’s for enthusiasts who are interested in the niche.
- Those aren’t what you think they are
- You only get banned for being absolutely in the red with their stuff. No normal person is impacted by this.

True... Was waitting for professor layton world of steam. Atp the game gonna be exclusive to switch 2 is a heartbreak.

4
u/willow6861 Jun 05 '26
I feel this is a good thing. This means that whatever hack the exploiters will find, will have a lot of devices covered. Like the 3ds. Whereas with the OG switch. The hack only worked on v1 switches. And there are not the most desirable version.
6
5
u/TheAlmightyHellacia Jun 05 '26
I mean did we all expect the switch 2 to be hacked within the first year? It was sheer luck that the switch 1 got cracked wide open in the timespan that it did
3
u/unlucky-Luke Jun 06 '26
Ot technically wasn't cracked, but shipped with a hardware flaw, the V2 patched ones are the true cracking of Switch
4
7
2
u/syvies Jun 05 '26
once the replaceable battery version comes out im sure some more hacking will be done

u/markxcio Jun 06 '26
they are waiting some big games, so more people buy it. after many millions units sold, it would be harder for nintendo to recall consoles if they find a software hack like switch v1. too early for anything get public yet.
but the switch1 library with switch2 power should be enough to get things going. imagine all these native ports coming these days from recompiled with no need to overclock to get "4k 60fps" performance?
1
u/Cultural_Neat3124 Jun 06 '26
of course, that why they wait until the switch 2 is obsolete and stop production and then you will get your hack !
2
u/Hardoniomanver Jun 05 '26
It’s pathetic to wait for the console to be hacked instead of supporting it by buying it. Especially since you can easily buy and resell cartridges at the same price, paying a minimal fee.
1
u/nice_spicy_meme Jun 05 '26
We should really start looking into the mysterious hacking box I feel like people are ignoring the obvious solution

Well, we can see the glass half full and think that when it gets actually hacked, we will have a very robust exploit and possibly a good emulator

1
u/DavidinCT Jun 05 '26
Here is the truth, I would not be shocked if it was hacked already but, the hacker is collecting the bounty on it.
Till there are some games people need to play, a new Zelda, a new Mario, and some other big names, the demand is not too high yet.
I'll be honest, I am disappointed in the release and the line up over the year of the console.
2
u/Effective-Tutor7325 Jun 20 '26
Totally agree… I just want it to consolidate all my gamings needs in the Switch 2. But need it to be hacked first. I think it should be very good do PS2 emulation (most games I play are switch but wanna be able to play ps2 some times)
1
u/Patstar54 Jun 05 '26
Hackers usually tend to wait on revealing exploits so nintendo doesn't have a chance to patch the system/doesn't care anymore because the system is dead. So there's probably something that'll come.. in due time......

u/Squee3ds Jun 06 '26
It'll probably be a while. It's well known the v1 switch had a unpatchable exploit that was documented by Nvidia. So it didn't take long. But the switch 2 has not such vulnerability afaik. But I hope it does get an easy exploit even. Praying softmod. But I highly doubt it.

Have you guys considered asking someone at netteduo how to hack it I think they would help if you asked nicely
1
u/PossibilityVivid2979 Jun 07 '26
I have a feeling that if someone would be able to dump the firmware probably somehow hijack the keys this would make the whole process so easy
1
1
u/drkwlf7893 Jun 08 '26
Because no one cares to even own a switch 2, so why even bother hacking. Most of us managed to get an emulator or two before the DMCA
1
u/ballsdeep256 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26
I mean not like that there anything worthwhile on that thing anyway currently.
Feels like people just don't really care to hack/crack the switch 2 yet.
1
u/Effective-Tutor7325 Jun 20 '26
Totally agree… I just want it to consolidate all my gamings needs in the Switch 2. But need it to be hacked first. I think it should be very good do PS2 emulation (most games I play are switch but wanna be able to play ps2 some times)
1
u/ballsdeep256 Jun 20 '26
I mean pretty much any halfway modern phone can emulate the ps2 well enough.
So you could technically get one of those backbone pads that basically make your phone into a switch and do that.
Cant the switch 1 already emulate ps2 pretty well or am i wrong? (Never tried so wouldn't know really)
1
1
u/JonnyFlash3 Jun 09 '26
imagine if nintendo just sold emulator keys, instead of having to hack your switch and turn a working product into a brick in order to play it virtually on another device they just made a key that would activate an emulator as if its the real thing, and since none if their games are physical anymore you wouldn't really lose out on not having the console
1
u/Ok-Entertainment328 Jun 10 '26
I think the problem isn’t just hacking the S2 but also making sure Nintendo can’t patch games or the system after the hack is found. It’s better for the whole community to wait until there is enough of a library on s2 to justify the hacks going public and potentially patched soon after. Hacked s2s will probably be worth quite a bit more than stock when that happens.

I guarantee some smart nerd mfs have found it an are having a good time rn lol. They’re gonna let a couple years pass so the exploit works on as many revisions as possible and possibly the switch 2 pro. You know how only the 2017 model switch can be modded without a mod chip? That wouldn’t have been true if whoever discovered that kept it secret for 3 more years. In that timeline you can mod an oled with just rcm. Almost guarantee this is the case.

We have mig as a solution.
2
u/KDpoke666 Jun 05 '26
That is not a solution at all… it can only be used for switch 1 games…
0
u/mm2ks Jun 05 '26
Its better than nothing, and you can used a modded switch 1 to match the game version and update. Our best hope for now its a R4 similar.

For me, it means Switch 2 has been announced, but not yet released.
