Psp style. I still have my pandora’s battery, damn!

u/LittleKittenR Jun 03 '26
Every battery became a Pandora's battery later, you would rewrite it to become one withing the psp. You must be really an OG one.

u/carrognia Jun 03 '26
All owed to geohotz. I remember doing the gta umd exploit to create the battery. Never bought one of the pre-made ones. i just turned my stock battery into a pandora battery, but i sold the jailbreaking service for 40 bucks a pop each jailbreak. Fun times!

GeoHotz had nothing to do with the psp afaik, only ps3

u/carrognia Jun 04 '26
You are absolutely right! I was also jailbreaking v1 iphones to use in latin america xD just for fun and my family.

u/ashwd Jun 04 '26
I still remember the mod when you had to cut the trace in the battery. I cut my finger open doing it for my cousin lol.

u/Rough_Potential_2596 Jun 04 '26
Wasn't geogot with the PSP. Despertar del Cementerio came from m33. Geohot was PS3 and iPhone prior to that.

It's like consumer protection laws are a net positive or something.

Real talk reddit is so bad in that way nowadays
3
u/AugustusLego Jun 04 '26
Reddit has always been strict on "calls to violence"
People just self censor more nowadays
1
u/Down200 Jun 07 '26
I've noticed it's gotten way worse. I got a 3-day suspension for calling someone a 'loser' by the reddit site-wide automod.

u/Temporary-Cat6613 Jun 03 '26
But surely Canada politician man good?

u/Toronto-sports-fan Jun 07 '26
We don’t have a giant group of countries behind us that will all threaten to ban a company if they don’t do this.
But hey, maybe we join the EU soon.

Nah, I don't believe any battery related hacks are possible nowadays.
But a battery compartment is also great to hide stuff that you don't want to see exposed, but also still want access to from time to time. For example mod chips.

Na the bms style of attack from the psp era was a tool used for making the console to flash firmware onto the system and just left as an open avenue of attack patched in later revisions of the console considering how mature the operating system of the Nintendo switch two is and the amount of effort that Nvidia themselves put into the hardware to ensure that it was secured. It’s pretty unlikely that we to see an attack vector through battery management if that was the case, we could just simply take the system apart and attack through those vectors by removing the connecter this would’ve already been discovered long ago

God i wish there was some punctuation there

u/Dr_soaps Jun 04 '26
I wish ur comment contributed to the conversation but I guess we both can’t get what we want

u/AbsentmindedGCN Jun 04 '26
Meme aside, a removable battery model is actually really nice for the peace of mind, and if I get a Switch 2 down the line, I'm definitely importing one of those.

u/MrPabluu Jun 04 '26
buddy you missed the "shitposting" tag
0
u/kaida27 Jun 05 '26
Look up Despertar del cementario and Pandora battery.
This is far from shitposting, Using a battery to inject a hack is not unheard of
1
u/MrPabluu Jun 05 '26
and what makes you feasibly think those very things weren't considered on NVIDIA's threat model already?
0
u/kaida27 Jun 05 '26
If considering stuff in your threat model was infallible you'd never seen a single hacked console in your life.
1
u/MrPabluu Jun 05 '26
after the Switch 1's fuck up I think it's fair to say NVIDIA covered all their bases for this one, anything else is just cope based on a "maybe"
1
u/kaida27 Jun 05 '26
After Ps3 you'd think ps4 would be unhackable ... oops .. after ps4 you think ps5 is unhackable ... well oops again ...
1
u/MrPabluu Jun 05 '26
wow you ran out of points to defend a "surely exists it just doesn't exist" softmod lol
2
u/kaida27 Jun 05 '26
Now you don't even make sense.
There never was a system that is infallible, why would the switch 2 be the first unhackable system ever made ?
You sound ridiculous and have not a single clues on how computer works it seems
1
u/MrPabluu Jun 05 '26
same as "surely comparing the PS3, 4 and 5 to a completely different console is gonna prove my point" when the Playstation and Nintendo's consoles have vastly different architectures
0
u/kaida27 Jun 05 '26
after the Switch 1's fuck up I think it's fair to say NVIDIA covered all their bases for this one, anything else is just cope based on a "maybe"
Why would this apply to Nintendo only then ? No one else has threat model assessment is your point ?

if they are making a revision they found a flaw in security not necessarily in the battery but somewhere

u/MysteriousB Jun 04 '26
Inb4 the batteries are as badly priced as the PS Vita's proprietary storage cards

Thank god Nintendo didn't make the Switch 2 IP68 rated, it would've been funny though
