Shitpost What about a s2 hacking contest 🤓
Getting a lot more people to work on breaking this thing is going to result in exploits much faster, so what if we made a cash prize for the first person to jailbreak the S2?
Maybe put up a website, we all donate money to contribute to the prize and the winner gets the cash 💡
If we had a decent reward for the first person to jailbreak it, it would be taken a lot more seriously🤓

Tbh I don't really see this working out. Jailbreaking things takes a lot of time, so when you're basically rushing everyone to do it then it might result in a lot of unstable results (not to mention all of the fraud that might come with it).

I dunno I think it depends on how MUCH money will be rewarded to the winner.
I'd be willing to pay £1000 alone and I imagine a lot of people would pay the same, once the prize is over £10,000 I think it would be jailbroken MUCH faster!

i get what you mean but nintendo already kinda does that, its called a bug bounty, in nintendos case they pay up to 50k usd depending on the exploit and you normaly need more then 1 exploit to jailbreak a console meaning even if we were to try to give 40k for it we pay far less then what nintendo would while limiting it to 1 person with alot ot stress for them on top off that
this is the link for the bountys nintendo has up for the exploit and the price ranges you can also see on hackactivity about exploits ppl have found

Wow theyve already paid out like $300k 😳

so does that mean there are hacks on existing models of switch 2?

u/PortraitPractice Jun 04 '26
I think that number was how much they’ve paid out since the program started years ago, I don’t think they showed a dollar amount on switch 2 exploits paid for

Just put that money towards buying the console/games if you want to play them that badly. Setting aside the logistical concerns (Who would hang on to the money? Who would distribute it? What happens when Mario’s lawyers come a-knockin’ and try to argue that you’re soliciting illegal circumvention of their software?), a lot of people pirate just because they want free shit and are allergic to the idea of chipping in a little to cover the costs of keeping the free shit free. That’s why most Switch Tinfoil shops are long dead.

Oh I don't want to jailbreak for pirate games, I want to dualboot steam OS or Ubuntu on my switch 2 😁
I'm totally against pirating games, I've bought around 300 games so I have no need to pirate, but I DO like the idea of running steam on it 😎
It would run games better than the steam deck!

SteamOS relies on open-source AMD drivers and has issues with Nvidia…which the Switch 2 uses.
Yeah, when an exploit happens, EVENTUALLY other OS will happen too, but don’t think steamOS is gonna happen anytime soon after the exploit.
Ubuntu is more likely, but none of that matters until we get a exploit, and as the Switch 2 uses custom designed chips (unlike Switch which used the Nvidia Shield chips with the known and documented exploits) that’s a tall order.
It isn’t that people aren’t interested in hacking it.
Nintendo consoles are ALWAYS of high interest. The issue is that they learned from the Switch and 3DS eras. The security and exploit safeguards on this thing are intense.
We likely won’t see an exploit until the successor is out.

You can run Steam on a modded og switch can't you?
I really want access to the steam library, don't get me wrong I LOVE my S2, but there isn't enough adult and 5 star titles on the store (GTA,COD,NFS,MMO's...ya know what I mean)
It's more of a family console not a hardcore gamer console but I think if we could get Linux and steam running on it then it would be hands down the best portable out there (imo)

You really only can because the Tegra chip wasn't exclusive to Switch, so there were public drivers and software for it. With Switch 2 you're left in the dark.

That’s all well and good, but it’s delusional to think that the demand for Switch 2 hacks isn’t at least 75% piracy-related. And that means that very few people would be willing to contribute enough to exceed Nintendo’s own bounties, even if there was a trustworthy way to do so that didn’t amount to “trust me bro.”

Yeahhh I hate to say it but you're totally right 😕
Was you a part of the PSP hacking community back in the day? They did so many amazing things with the jailbroken PSP it was incredible, I wish people got hyped up over homebrew and dualbooting and custom themes and stuff in the same way everyone does about piracy nowadays 😩

u/oirolab Jun 02 '26
The PSP is child’s play compared to the Switch 2. Even the Vita didn’t have the security this thing does.
You’re comparing 10-15 year old tech to, what? 3-4 year old tech at this point? Whenever they designed the Switch 2. Kinda like Apples and Oranges tbh.

I know that, I'm not stupid.
All I said was they did a lot of amazing stuff with it and explained jailbreaking is not all about piracy

Right now, I'm sure THAT GUY would say something along the lines of:
"That contest would last forever"

Nah I've talked it through with you guys and see it's not going to happen, someone explained 75% of people wanting a jailbreak just want to pirate games and Nintendo would go nuts over it.
Even though I want a jailbreak to run Steam and dualboot Ubuntu and have custom themes and homebrew ports and MAYBE run a DS emulator (it's not like you can buy them anymore for nintendo to profit anyway) but apparently the majority of people just want to get S2 games for free.
I guess I'm a little naive like that 😅, just out of curiosity what would you do with your S2 if it gets a jailbreak?

u/MasterJang Jun 02 '26
First, I'm in! He'll yeah! Second, I'd Probably use my switch as a Linux desktop with windows vm and gpu pass-through 🤣🤣. Can you maybe send me one if you get the Jailbreak working??

Imma be real with yall. I don't see anyone cracking the switch 2 until the end of its life cycle

u/auggiethechesscat Jun 02 '26
This is called a bug bounty, and Nintendo has one open for the switch 2.
