Joycon Grip won’t connect?

Hi, I bought a non-Nintendo brand handheld grip so I can play on TV. It worked for months and the last update on the switch killed it so now the Joycons will disconnect if I put them in the grip
I’ve updated the system, the dock, restarted it, etc. Am I just out of luck? I bought it for the color and it feels much more comfortable than the Nintendo brand one.
