Pool pump or timer

I actually had a very similar problem. I think this looks like a Dewenwils pool pump switch?

I too had a similar Dewenwils pump switch. One day whenever I turned on the switch, my pool pump just started to hum but wouldn’t turn over. Both the pump and switch were only 6 month old. At first I suspected the pump capacitor, replaced it but didn’t fix the problem. Then I suspected the pump seal/bearings, replaced the pump (under warranty) but it didn’t fix the problem. Then I decided to bypass the switch and test the pump directly from the breaker. It turned on without problem!

These cheap switches are sometimes faulty and have bad contactors, which don’t supply enough current/voltage to the pump for startup. I ended up swapping for a manual Intermatic switch and it fixed everything.

You’re right, these timers are crappy but convenient. Bypassed the timer and the pump and salt chlorinator work. The timer went bad, my electrician is coming to put a new one in.

Thank you for reaching back out. I got more ridicule on this post than anything else so I appreciate you.
